A few months ago we had family from Utah come to visit us in St. Louis.  We had a grand time showing them around our fine city…  However, the most favorite part of the visit was spending the day up in Nauvoo, Illinois.  Sure it was quite the drive and down more than a few country roads to get to, but it’s definitely worth the trip!  There’s so much history in Nauvoo and it’s fun for all ages:

Plus, there are authentic Nauvoo log cabins that you can stay in.

We actually stayed in the cutest little cabin east of the Mississippi!

The Danielson cabin has everything you need for your nights stay:  A refrigerator, microwave, bathroom with shower, desk, and 2 bunk beds.

Each cabin comes with it’s own unique story and you can read about the families that used to reside in them.  The Danielson cabin actually used to be in Wyoming, but was moved to Nauvoo and reconstructed by the owner’s of Nauvoo Log Cabins.  So the community of cabins itself has a rich history just like the city of Nauvoo!

Our visiting family stayed in the Beebe cabin, because it had more room for their size of 7 people:

The Beebe comes with a fully equipped kitchen, 1 1/2 baths, and sleeps 9.

It even has a really cool loft!

At Nauvoo Log Cabins there are so many great cabins (in all sizes) to choose from.  Here are just a few:

There’s even a fantastic LDS church history museum right on site:

Remember how Audi and I spent our 10th wedding anniversary at Butterfly Gap?  Well, I still have dreams about that place.  Probably more so now because it’s fall and I’m sure that the change of season is gorgeous in that part of the country!   Butterfly Gap is honestly this magical haven tucked away in the Smoky Mountains.  There are many things that make Butterfly Gap a unique, romantic destination.  But by far the scenic views have got to be at the top of the list.  Can you just imagine what the fall colors must look like there now?

The lookout was the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Audi and I waiting to watch the sunset.

All of the rentals at Butterfly Gap are either hidden in the woods or at the edge of the lake:

Our’s was in the woods with the most adorable screened in porch:

Another great view at Butterfly Gap?  The homemade ice cream that was in the freezer of rental when we checked in:

It was just as yummy as it looks!  However did they know that mint chocolate chip is my favorite???

We miss you Butterfly Gap!

Remember reading about where Audi and I went for our 10 year anniversary???  It’s time for me to gush about just how amazing this bed and breakfast is.  The 10 year anniversary is the diamond one and we found a real gem in the Butterfly Gap.  Everything about the Butterfly Gap is perfect.  The surroundings…

The guest houses…

The breakfasts…

Even the drive back to the retreat is picturesque:

Pictures don’t even begin to show just how breathtaking this place is.  Neither can words, so that’s why this is a one of two parts posting.  🙂   Stay tuned…

On this day 10 years ago I married my best friend. By far the best decision of my life.

We found the perfect place to stay for our anniversary trip to the Smokey Mountains. Stay tuned for a future posting about the amazing Butterfly Gap!

Audi (the mister and I) are road tripping it to the Smokey Mountains for our 10th wedding anniversary. We purposefully stayed over in Nashville for the night to visit the Loveless Cafe again. About 5 years ago we went there and have been dying to go back ever since! Good southern food and the chance to spot one of the many celebrities who frequent the place. According to the staff (overheard in the restroom) we narrowly missed eating dinner with Martina McBride! Oh well the food was still yummy. 🙂
