“Parenting is hard. We make stuff to make it easier.”

Isn’t it nice to know someone understands you and has your back as a parent? Today’s set of helpful parenting tools comes from MAM, an innovative company that develops baby products that are not only approved by parents, but medical professionals and developmental psychologists as well.  So basically, you know their products are going to be the most effective and the best for you and your baby.

I chose to review two products by MAM, the Bite and Relax Phase 2 Teether, and the Learn to Brush Toothbrush Set. First I’ll start with the teether. Since I no longer have a teething baby, I gave the teether to a friend whose baby was having major teething issues and she gratefully accepted. Here’s her review:

“The teether is awesome. She really struggled with it for a couple weeks. She wanted to put the whole thing in her mouth like a pacifier, because it is made to be able to do so. She choked on it a lot at first. But she’s never taken a pacifier. Once she got the hang of it she loves it! She loves the different textures that she can rub on her gums. The different textures keep her interested much longer than if it was one texture. Developmentally it is definitely easier for her to use now that she’s 6 months, as she now has better control of her little fingers.”

And here’s her little cutie!

I have a baby who (oddly enough) LOVES to brush her teeth, so I kept the toothbrush set for myself. The toothbrush set comes with two toothbrushes; the Training Brush with a long handle so parent and baby can brush baby’s teeth together, and the First Brush with a shorter, fatter handle for baby to brush by herself. Both brushes are meant for ages 6+ months, but I don’t think my daughter was wanting to brush on her own until she was at least a year old.

My daughter loved both brushes, but especially loved the First Brush because the chubby, knobby handle was easy for her to hold and use on her own. I liked the long handle on the Training Brush because it made it easier to help her get to her back teeth. MAM makes oral care products for infants through toddlers, and you can get some great oral care advice on their website here.

This next giveaway is not going to end in time for you to use as a Father’s Day gift, but I’m still going to tie this into Father’s Day just so it stays on your brain and you don’t forget and are freaking out next Saturday night trying to think of something to do for your hubby. So, let’s talk about kissing. I’m sure you’ll do lots of that on Father’s Day, right? You need to show the Father of your children how much you love him for all he does for you and your family, and what better way to do that than through a smooch! Except when that smooch comes right after eating garlic bread. Or red onions. Or eggs. Eeewww. To avoid any awkward, get-away-from-me-your-breath-stinks cheek pecks this Father’s Day, check out the 3-in-1 toothpaste, mouthwash and breath freshener called OraMD.

OraMD is a manufactured by Trusted Health Products, maker of several other natural health remedies. Their products range from a skin care solution to a colon normalizer (how you know if your colon is UN-normal is beyond me…) to a foot rub for runners (which I would love to try!).  All of their products are GMO-free, 100% pure & natural, with no additives or fillers of any kind. And all of their products come with a 1-year, unconditional money-back guarantee, so you don’t have to worry when you make a purchase.  OraMD is a 3-in-1 mouthwash, toothpaste and breath freshener, so it’s kind of a wonder product!

OraMD -

My bottle of OraMD arrived just as I had run out of my old mouthwash but didn’t have time to go to the store, so I was very happy to see it in my mailbox! I loved the smell of it as soon as I opened it; I could tell it was made from pure mint oils (peppermint and spearmint, to be exact) and it smelled delicious. To use it as a mouthwash, you add about 3-5 drops into about 1 ounce of water, mix it up, then swish it in your mouth just like mouthwash. I was never precise in measuring out an ounce of water, so sometimes the mint flavor would be very strong and other times it was barely palatable, so it took some getting used to. I would definitely recommend it to those who don’t like very strong mouthwashes because it is very mild, but still leaves my mouth feeling fresh afterward. I never used it as a toothpaste, but I will say that just as a mouthwash it will last me forever; even after using it for about 3 weeks the bottle doesn’t even look like it’s been opened.

Bottle

To use as toothpaste, you do the same thing; add about 2-5 drops of OraMD onto your toothbrush and brush as normal. For a breath freshener, you just put 1-3 drops directly on your tongue then rub your tongue around your gums and inside of your mouth. It is VERY strong this way but definitely leaves your mouth feeling fresh.  The website says that if you use it as a toothpaste, mouthwash and breath freshener, it should last about a month, and at $15/month, that will save you up to $20 compared to other natural teeth and mouth health products on the market. OraMD is a great deal and a great product, but don’t trust me–enter to win a bottle and try it out yourself!

THREE winners will receive one bottle of OraMD!

I remember reading something a couple of years ago about Martha Stewart saying that she married someone who had perfectly straight, white teeth so that her children would also have perfectly straight, white teeth.  Ironically enough, both of my parents fall into that category of having perfectly straight, white teeth (without braces EVER for either of them) and my mom didn’t even have wisdom teeth.  You’d think that the four of us kids would have hit the jackpot when it came to our teeth, right?

Wrong.  Completely wrong.

My brother and sister have both had jaw surgery to correct their bite, and I just recently found out that I’m a good candidate for the same surgery when I went in to check in on getting braces to push back my teeth from years of swallowing incorrectly.  While my other brother hasn’t heard anything about surgery, he has always had a bunch of cavities that need to be drilled and filled at each appointment even though he brushes often and visits the dentist regularly.

When it comes to oral health, I’m just gearing myself up for the worst for my children, but I’m also conscientious about the precautions that I can take when they’re young.  We try to avoid sugary foods and juices, our city water is fluoridated, and we help the boys brush their teeth before going to bed from the time they are young.  It can be difficult, though, to find the right toothbrushes and training toothpastes that appeal to their taste buds without leaving blue streaks all down the front of their pajamas.  I was excited to discover and have the chance to review this line of natural toothpastes from Jack N’ Jill!

“Jack N’ Jill is a natural toothpaste for babies, toddlers & children that is safe to swallow. It was first made in Melbourne, Australia in 1949 and it has been [a] family business for more than twenty years.  It continues to be made in Australia and […] Jack N’ Jill is now available in the USA and UK as well.”

We received the Black Currant and Raspberry flavors of Jack N’ Jill toothpaste, and they both are amazing!  Other flavors include strawberry, blueberry, and banana, which are a welcome difference from the other options available in our area.

raspberry_1278414978T

“Jack N’ Jill toothpaste is 100% safe for young children – especially because they have a tendency to swallow it, rather than spit it out! All Jack N’ Jill packaging is designed to be appealing to children and is cute enough that parents won’t mind it sitting on their bathroom vanity. Alongside the toothpaste we have designed and manufactured the first children’s toothbrushes that are made of NON GMO cornstarch, and are therefore biodegradable and recyclable. Did we mention ‘cute’?”
