When we were going to school full-time, we were living in a college town in Washington state — you can only imagine how important the local coffee shops were to most of the students on campus.  Between the college setting and being just over an hour away from Seattle, coffee was king!  I don’t drink coffee, but many of our study sessions or get-togethers after class or work took place at a coffee shop, so I needed to find something there outside of hot chocolate for the warm summer months.  Enter Italian sodas!  I loved having a fun fruity drink to order, and I especially loved being able to try multiple flavors and mix and match over the two years I lived there.

I found a great post for Italian sodas on one of my favorite foodie blogs at the beginning of the summer, and it took me right back to these fun times with friends!  I added “fruit flavored syrups” to my shopping list so I grab them at the grocery store, but there were NONE to be found — some vanilla, caramel, and chocolate flavors to add to coffees or hot chocolates, but no fruity flavors for Italian sodas.

I headed online to see where I could purchase these syrups online, and I came across the new Fruit Innovations Syrups offered by DaVinci Gourmet!  “The Fruit Innovationsâ„¢ Syrups are specially formulated for making refreshing cold beverages.  Give lemonades, ice teas, and sodas a unique twist by adding one of our gourmet syrup flavors.  These delicious syrups are made with pure cane sugar and ultra-filtered water.  Easily mixable Fruit Innovationsâ„¢ syrups naturally compliment many cold drinks without adding overwhelming sweetness.  So stir in one of our nine new flavors into your next drink recipe and get that fresh-squeezed fruit taste anywhere, anytime!”

We were sent the Pomegranate, Raspberry, Strawberry, Peach, and Mango flavors to try, so we invited some friends over for dessert and games and pulled out all the fixings for Italian sodas!  By the end of the evening, we had sampled all five flavors and were pleased with all of them.  Peach, though, was a clear favorite, with raspberry coming in right behind.

DaVinci Gourmet also offers Honey Melon, Kiwi, Mandarin Orange, and Tropical Fruit in this new Fruit Innovations line — they all sound amazing!  DaVinci Gourmet also provides a plethora of recipes that use these  Fruit Innovationsâ„¢ Syrups, such as Asian Citrus Sorbet, Summertime Strawberry Lemonade, and Peaches and Cream Soda.  I would highly recommend these great  Fruit Innovationsâ„¢ Syrups to add a fun twist to lots of different drinks!

In addition to these great new summer fruit flavors, DaVinci Gourmet also offers Classic Syrups, Sugar Free Flavored Syrups, All Natural Flavors Syrups, Gourmet Sauces, and Tea Concentrates.

We can claim a lot of “bests” out here in New England.  Best lobster, best clam chowder, and best Boston cream pie.  Since tasting some of these “bests” myself, I have become a HUGE fan of local delicacies, and will always opt for something home-grown, native, and straight from the farm or ocean over factory-made in a big city hundreds of miles from the source.  Lately, I gravitate towards unique flavors and rich breakfast foods, and found a perfect marriage of flavors, spices, and syrup!  Introducing Maple Farms!

Six of these syrups can also be put on my “best of New England” list, and two, the Bourbon Infused Maple Syrup is aged in oak barrels from Berkshire Mountain Distillers in Great Barrington, MA, and the Cranberry Infused Maple Syrup made from PJ’s Cranberries on Cape Cod, are from right here in Massachussets!  Ok, check out these Fruit Infused Maple Syrups!  They come in They come in Adirondack Apple, Going, Bananas, Wild Maine Blueberry, Cape Cod Cranberry, North Fork Peach, Rhode Island Raspberry, and Scrumptious Strawberry.

If you haven’t tried fruit-flavored syrups, you’re missing out.  If you have, think about that glorious taste, and then add another degree of flavor and you might have an idea of what these taste like.  I was able to try the Rhode Island Raspberry and Scrumptious Strawberry and they are to die for!

They arrived yesterday, and so this morning we made a hearty batch of Belgian waffles for breakfast and these syrups made our plain waffles an extravagantly gourmet dish!  First of all, the wax (?) dipped tops are so classic!  I’ve never seen that before on a syrup bottle, and I think it is such a fancy finishing touch!  I really like the consistency–not too thick where you have to be patient waiting for it to pour.  You can tell that the maple flavoring base is not from just a bottle of concentrate.  It is richer and more intense, and though it is very sweet, it is not just a bottle of a lot of sugar.

These flavors are so intense!  A tiny drop on the finger is enough to fill your senses!  The fruit infusions are my favorite.  I giant strawberry clump in my bottle slowed down the flow from the neck, but I don’t mind.  The raspberry was my favorite!  Loved those raspberry seeds and clumps of fruit.

Next, check out these Maple Cream Infusions.  These are like syrups turned into creamy spreads that you can smother on toast, pancakes, pies, you name it.  Available flavors include apple, banana, blueberry, cranberry, peach, raspberry, and strawberry!

They also sell Liquor Infused Maple Syrups–Amaretto, Brandy, Hazelnut, Spiced Rum, Bourbon, and Irish Cream.  Now lest you go thinking that I’ve become a drinker (hi, the whole Dandy team consists of Mormon moms who don’t drink alcohol), these don’t actually have an alcohol content–but a lot of flavoring from barrel-aging the syrup in previously used casks for 4-6 months!  Still, I made friends with my neighbor and had her try out my liquor-infused syrup for me 🙂

Now don’t forget pancake and waffle mixes!  Mixes include: Strawberry Shortcake, Peach Cobbler, Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie, Cinnamon & Sugar Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Banana Bread and Cinnamon Apple Crisp!
