Beach Rays {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Its FINALLY summer!  Legitimately.  We’re hitting up the beach nearly every day, since we live just a block from the beautiful Revere Beach.  Good thing we have some killer swimsuits this season!  Beach Rays so generously sent me and my son a swimsuit from their new collection, and we took them out last weekend.  We reviewed the Pamela suit in Red and the boys’ Gelato suit, sold for $119 and $36.

us

I love a lot of things about this red suit.  I think the style is classic and beautiful, while still being extremely slimming.  I have a LOT of middle tummy fluff leftover from two pregnancies, but it is camouflaged quite well with this so-geniously placed rusching in the front.  After seeing for myself how this really hides and slims, I’m never going back to a flat/smooth front swimsuit again.

red

Now, while I love the cut and the style, there is still a major issue that is going to inhibit me from wearing this suit again, and I think it only affects my well-endowed sisters.  In a bigger size with bigger cups on this suit, the underwire has difficulty staying in place.  The halter top straps naturally pull the sides of the suit in at an angle toward the neck, and so the underwire ends rub against eachother, usually overlapping.  There is very little structure when it comes to the bust part of this suit, especially because it is a halter with no support that wraps entirely around your body.  I hope this is just a problem for this Size 10 suit, and for busty girls.  I do think that this won’t be a problem in the smaller sizes on girls with small busts to contain.

red1

Rocket’s suit is adorable, though!  We reviewed a suit for him last summer, so I knew how the Beach Rays sizing ran.  Last year, we ordered a size 3T for our 2-year-old, and it was pretty snug.  This year, we ordered a size 6 for the now 3-year-old, and it fits him great, with room to last him the summer.  So keep in mind that their trunks run quite small if you have a chunk of a boy yourself.

L1

I love these colors together and I love the color blocking!  It makes this suit look much less juvenile in my opinion.

IMG_9692

The back pocket is my favorite part!  I love the contrast color on the drawstring waistband and how it makes the waistband adjustable for a perfect fit.L

There are SO many cute/fashionable/manly/girly suits to choose from on the Beach Rays site.  You could surely find favorites for the whole family at Beach Rays and look coordinatingly dashing at the beach this summer!  Check em out!

I feel like showing up at a pool party wearing the same this-year’s-trend swimsuit as another girl is like wearing the same dress to Prom.  Yuck!  Your swimsuit can make such a statement and attract attention when it is a chic style in a unique print or cut.  I’m so sick of seeing the same suits out there, and when you’re limited to one-pieces (thank you, stretch marks), the options really narrow down, but when I came across Persona Swimwear, I fell instantly in love with their colors and designs!  These are all totally my style!  Eye-catching, memorable, flattering, and unique!
 index
Don’t you agree?  I’m LOVING the one-pieces, especially this one in the middle: The Paris Tankini.  It feels so French to me, and the black ruffles are so flirty.  What a I love about these fashions are that the one-pieces are adorably unique (and I would wear any of them in a heartbeat) and even the two-pieces are still more modest than most, and not ridiculously skimpy like the bikinis you see lately.

Emily Sanders is the SLC-based fashion designer of Personal Swimwear.  She has been a Gallery Director, writer, designer, and professional artist for a number of years.  I read in an online article about her that she was caught streaking at Girls Camp during Fast and Testimony Meeting.  Haha, for some reason I love that!  With Emily’s extensive art experience and background, she merged the two worlds of art and fashion, and started Persona Swimwear in early 2010.  When asked where she got the name for her company, she said,
“The name Persona comes from the influence of the very purpose of clothing. Yes, we wear it as protection from the elements, but as humans we have transformed it into a statement of who we are as a person.  It’s like a little piece of theater — what we wear says to the world what character we play; in other words, we put on a persona.”
I was pleased as punch when Emily offered to send me TWO swimsuits from her line!
dos
I wore the Alice in Wonderland Tankini (sold for $85) to the beach last weekend, and I’ve decided that this is my FAVORITE swimsuit of all time!  And I find it interesting that of all the swimsuits I’ve owned, this one is definitely the most covering, as in showing the least amount of skin, but this is by far my husband’s favorite on me.  I agree.
IMG_4929
Don’t I look like a Tiffany’s box?!  I love the color, and the cute little bows give it a hint of flirty.  Having them placed on the small of the waist is a great way to accentuate the waist in a good way while directing the eyes away from a fluffy stomach.  Maybe a reason why I love it so much is because it is SO comfortable!  No tight straps digging into my shoulders, and I’m not constantly pulling and tucking at the fabric.  This is a size Medium, and so you can see that on a DDD, its a little snug, but not too bad, huh?  I think this is a GREAT swimsuit for all cup sizes and it can flatter a multitude of shapes.  The key characteristic for me is the LENGTH!  I love how it elongates a short torso and stays snug around the hips.  The shorts are super comfy and the boy cut is just right with this top–short but not ‘cheeky’ or too tight around the thigh.  I can’t keep praising this one enough!
Untitled-3
I also received the Roller Derby Girl Tankini, which is also so stinkin adorable!  Cute, cute, cute!  I thought I should share my wealth in fantastic swimsuits, and that this one would look fabulous on my cute sister-in-law!  Here is Holly in all her adorableness, rockin the Roller Derby Girl Tankini at the beach in Chicago!
Persona-Swimsuit copy
Here are her thoughts:
This suit offers the 3 C’s, if you will: Cuteness, Confidence, and Comfort!
This was my first time wearing a tankini and, I must say, it was a wonderful experience.  I felt cute, yet covered, but not COVERED, if you know what I mean.  And I don’t remember the last time I wore a pink swimsuit–it’s just so girly, isn’t it?!  I think those pink bows can bring out the cute in any girl!
Like Camille, I have a (somewhat) fuller-than-average body so support is always a concern for me when it comes to swimsuits.  Ladies, these suits are very well-made.  They are sturdy and will hold you in at all the right places so you can feel confident and relaxed while you enjoy your day at the beach with family and friends.
And I saved the best for last: this suit is comfy!  Camille said it and I’ll say it again–I have never worn such a comfortable swimsuit!  Just yesterday I went to the beach and hated walking home in the midday heat and humidity of Chicago.  My swimsuit’s shoulder straps were digging into my shoulders and I just wanted to rip it off!  So I was thrilled when I tried on this suit and immediately knew I wouldn’t have to deal with that today!  Gosh, it was comfy…so comfy.

Having a full figure is a blessing and a curse.  Usually a curse, in my opinion.  I haven’t been able to buy a fitting bra from a regular store (aka Target) since high school.  The waistline on dresses always creeps up to “empire” style, and finding a button-up shirt that fits in the waist but can still button all the way up is a joke.  I’ve taken completely to online shopping when it comes to bras, and whether you’re plus size or not up top, you will find some super flattering and beautiful bras at fullbeauty, in bra sizes 32-58, cup sizes A-N!

Fullbeauty2logo

The same frustration comes in finding swimsuits that cater to a full figure!!  Its a nightmare trying to find something with enough coverage AND support for a mom who doesn’t want to show a heap of cleavage at the kiddy pool.  Have YOU found your swimsuit of the season?  Let me show off some way cute options from fullbeauty!  All of these are perfection in my book: they come in larger bust sizes, they are modest, and they are right in line with what is stylish and trendy right now.  Big busted women can be stylish too!

20550_12779_mm  0550_13373_mm

What makes these suits so great is that they are made in larger sizes, and not just for high school bodies.  These are for the mom with stretch marks, saggy skin, and post-baby fluff!  Many of these suits feature compression fabric and built-in underwire support, along with tummy control panels in gathered side shirred styles to hide flaws.  Music to my ears.

0550_82994_mm 0528_26088_mm

I’m really embracing the swimdress lately.  Oh where are the thighs of my youth?!  I was super excited to review a swimdress from fullbeauty, and I hit the beach this weekend to show it off!  This is the Nautical Stripes Swimdress, sold for $69.99-$79.99, featuring a fun fold of fabric that starts across the bust and goes over the shoulder.

IMG_4777 copy

Things I love about this swimsuit: I LOVE nautical, so we were in instant match based on the colors and stripes.  The gold anchor clip on the shoulder is classic, and the fit is great.  This is not just a dress–it has a suit underneath made in powernet lining for great compression and comfort.  It has a shelf bra and foam cups, and I was surprised with the nice and thick weight of the nylon/spandex which also provides SPF 40+ UV protection.  Note that on my body, the shelf bra was pulling the swimsuit down too much for my taste, so I just snipped it out, and then it layed the way I wanted it to.

3

I love it!  I think it is the PERFECT mommy swimsuit.  I’m not trying to pick up men.  I’m trying to pick up hooligan children and keep them from drowning.  I don’t have to wear a frumpy swimteam one-piece, though!  This is still so cute in my book, and I feel so confident wearing it.

IMG_4798 copy

Ok, not to draw attention to my chest, but do you see how supported and shaped my (ahem) bust is?  I’ll let you in on a secret: The Swim Bra.  Have you heard of it? Fullbeauty sells this wonder for $34.99-$39.99, and when I saw it, I knew it would be worth every penny.

FB_SwimBanner_031613

Are you familiar with the feeling of droopiness and complete lack of support in a swimsuit?  There is nothing like feeling exposed and unsupported when you’re wearing nothing but stretch knit in front of family and friends.  This swim bra is my favorite addition to my swim wardrobe, and will accompany every swimsuit I ever wear.  So why is it so special?  First off, it has thin, quick-drying foam cups that won’t absorb water and make you look ridiculous.  Item #2: it has convertible straps that attach anywhere to work with every swimsuit style, regardless of whether you want to wear it with a halter top, cross-back, or even strapless suit.  Also, there are silicone grippers lining the top to provide a close and secure fit without shifting.  See?

IMG_4548

I’ve considered wearing this as a full-time daily bra, especially in the heat of the summer, when I’m sweating like a banshee and moisture under my clothes is so uncomfortable.  My only qualm is that the clear straps are too long, even when adjusted to the shortest length, to wear like tradition over-the-shoulder bra straps, but they’d probably be fine on a taller person, or when worn in a cross-body or halter style.  It is very lightweight and totally comfortable, and SO worth the investment.

Now go pick out your swimsuit of the summer at add a swimbra to your order!  Remember, whether you’re plus size or not, fullbeauty is stocked with beautiful lingerie styles in bra sizes 32-58, cup sizes A-N!

One winner will win The Swim Bra in their choice of size and color!

So did I mention that I’ve been sewing myself a swimsuit for the past few nights?  I knew it would be a good challenge, and I wanted to gain some good experience sewing with knits and elastics.  I bought a yard and a half in three different colors so that hopefully by the 3rd attempt, I would have something to wear!  After all this constructing, sewing, ripping, cutting, and trying again and again to get it right, I will SOOOOO appreciate a good swimsuit!  I feel like I could take any swimsuit off the rack and tell you if it was constructed well.  Through all of this, I just might have unintentionally made myself the perfect candidate to review swimsuits, ha ha!  Thank you, Beach Rays, for giving me the opportunity to do just that!

BEACH_RAYS_LOGO

Beach Rays carries some super attractive and extremely stylish swimsuits for men and women, and they’ve just come out with their new 2013 line of children’s swimsuits!  OH SO ADORABLE!

A new year means bigger kids, and “Rocket” was definitely in need of a good swimsuit.  Golly, he’s been growing like a weed!  Here are some of the boys’ swimsuits we had our eye on:

boy

Together, we picked out the Aadan swimsuit, by Vroom Vroom, and he looks like a rockstar!

Untitled-1

There were no corners cut on its construction.  There is a velcro fly, thick and high quality laces for a snug fit, and even a functional pocket with velcro closure on the back.  Perfect length, and true to size.

IMG_3997 copy

Love it.  The pattern is so modern and fun, and not too “little boy” for me.  The material doesn’t wrinkle, and I’m confident that the colors will not fade.  It is made out of 100% poly micro fiber for quick-drying.

IMG_4022 copy

And then as soon as I laid eyes on the Maya swimsuit, by RayRay, and even though I don’t actually have a girl, I knew I simply had to have it!  Yup, I’m a hoarder.  I’m banking on atleast one of the next 3+ pregnancies being girl, and when she comes, she’ll be one best-dressed baby!   And oh, what a diva. IMG_4011 copy

Everything about this is CUTE CUTE CUTE!  Oh, the ruffles!  Oh, that zebra print!  Oh, the hot pink flower details!  But really, its a very well-made suit besides all the frills.  Perfect stitching and attention to details, highest quality knit, and vibrant colors.  80% nylon and 20% spandex makes this very soft, stretchy, and comfortable.  $46 seems totally fair for this darling.

The summer phrase that strike fear in the hearts of women everywhere.

What are the words???  Swimsuit Season.  You are feeling really fearful right now, aren’t you?  Maybe I’m alone in this, but I ate a few too many treats over the holidays and then it just sort of continued into the new year.  Valentines Day.  Then Easter with those addicting Cadbury Mini Eggs.  It’s time that I face the facts.  And the fact is…  I’m not in the shape I want to be in for Swimsuit Season!

Sorry to burst any bubbles for the rest of you, but the days at the pool are just around the corner.  As in Memorial Day weekend is next weekend and that’s when many pools open up.  At least that’s the magical weekend for pool openings in St. Louis.  Even though our current temp outside looks like this:

Screen Shot 2013-05-15 at 2.25.42 PM

And we could very well be swimming today, but Memorial Day weekend it is!

Due to my skin cancer scare I will forever be found at the pool sporting one of these:

LW3A04S_010020_1

It’s what my dermatologist recommended and I figure it’s better to be safe than sorry.

However, I still need to be in shape for that rash guard!  Argh.  Cadbury Mini Eggs you really ruined me.

The difficult thing about getting in shape is you can only do so much with just diet and you can only do so much with just exercise.  You actually have to combine the two to really get in shape and be healthy!  I’m the cardio queen and can do hours on the elliptical, but it only ever gets me so far.  Even when I’m also watching what I eat with the cardio hours.  I was still always left with this sort of skinny fat business.  How do you get rid of skinny fat???  Build muscle.  I know that hours of cardio doesn’t build it, but still had no idea what to do without a gym membership.  How was I going to be able to do weights at home?  I’m too busy to go to the gym.  I have kids.  I’m busy, busy, busy.  The excuses just kept piling up!

Fortunately the answer sort of fell into my lap.  Okay it did fall into my lap!

A few months back I was asked to do some consulting work for this new fitness company:  Revolt.  I thought, “Sure.  What the hey.”  Working as a liaison with getting bloggers set up on the fitness program and following their success has been an eye opening experience.  They are getting some awesome results and all from their own homes!

revoltvimeocover

With Revolt you get access to meals plans, daily workouts, and online support.  All for less than you pay each month for a gym membership!  Now I know that I do technically work for Revolt, but I would love to have a Revolt team.  Where we can all work together on the fitness program.  Wouldn’t that be fun?  Something we can all keeps ourselves in check on.  Who’s with me?

JOIN THE REVOLT!!!

Disclaimer:  I do work for Revolt, but I think it’s a really great program.  All opinions are strictly my own.

I really think that the difference between loving and fearing swimsuit season is whether you have a cute swimsuit or not!  One that flatters and slims and makes you look great vs. something dowdy that showcases your weakness and exposes your lack of will power all winter long!  My post-hibernation body is nothing to get excited about, but I still can’t WAIT to hit the beaches this summer!!

albion-fit_thumb

I’ve been hunting swimsuits like a safari man, adamant that I can find something one-piece and doesn’t scream “Mommy”, and I fell absolutely in love with nearly EVERY single suit from Albion Fit!  Albion carries women’s fitness and swimwear, all beautifully styled and fashionably constructed.  I pinned nearly half of these swimsuits the instant I saw them.  Are these not adorable in every way?  These are sooo ME!

Albion so generously sent me a Go Long Crew to review!  I opted for the Go Long Crew, Ivory and couldn’t be happier.  These tops are great because they let you transition from relaxing, to errands, to workout without a wardrobe change.  I could wear this around the house, then to the grocery store, then to the gym while feeling comfortable and cute in all three settings.  The material is so lightweight and breathable, making it a favorite for workouts, and it is totally soft enough to sleep in.  I reeeeally love how LONG it is!  Every busty girl knows the frustration of shirts in regular sizes that creep up your body.  Its nice to have my waist and hips covered in a flattering fitting top.  Many of Albion’s Go Long Crews have thumb holes, which I think is so fun and sporty!
