Gold Toe Socks {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Socks are the gift of choice in our household this year!  My sister-in-law, who has been living with us for the past several months, has picked out almost a dozen of the most wonderful socks to give her husband this year, and it has really got me thinking about how socks can really be a great gift!  They can be fun, sophisticated, sentimental, or even just weird, and how fun that you can wear a new pair every day!  A good pair of socks keeps your feet cozy and warm, and that always makes me feel loved 🙂

Since socks are the theme of the season, I’m excited to show off a brand that is world-renowned for their quality and characteristic “gold toe”: Gold Toe Socks.

I chose to review the Varigated Stripe Knee High 2 Pair, in Brown Heather/Paprika.

I love em!  These are some high quality socks.  They are made of 72% combed cotton, which I learned about in my Textiles course in college as being a superior kind of cotton that has been brushed numerous times to align the fibers and create a soft and tight blend.

IMG_8983

The stitching on all of the gold toe socks has been reinforced for durability, and these pairs are void of any loose threads or stitching as far as I can tell.  They have a way of being warm and strong without feeling thick and bulky.  They fit inside my smallest shoes comfortably, as well as in my largest boots, without having to wear an extra pair of socks to fill them in.

IMG_8985

Gotta love that classic gold toe!  I can’t wait to wear these around the house during Christmas break and show them off to relatives.  These socks fit like a dream.  They are made for shoe sizes 6-9, but even my size 6.5 feet feel comfortably snug inside with extra rolling, bulging, or stretching.

This 2-pair set is sold for $8.40, which is an excellent price, considering they are knee-high and there are two pairs.

Keysocks {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Socks are a big deal to us Dandy-ites. Camille has posted about her awesome Kushyfoot socks, and today I’m posting about another kind of equally awesome sock, Keysocks!

logo

Keysocks are an ingenious invention by founder Shelby McKee. She was heading to a fall football game in 2009 and needed some no-show socks to wear with flats. Since traditional footie socks just fall off and don’t provide any warmth, she took a pair of her husband’s knee socks and a pair of scissors, and the first Keysock was born! Brilliant, right? If you’re having trouble envisioning what they look like, here’s a picture:

sock

They look kind of funny, but let me tell you, these socks WORK!

both

See how genius these babies are?! I was sent a great big bag of them with several pairs to try. I tried the Original Keysock in Nude and the Light Keysock in Black. One thing I found with both pairs is that if you are wearing them with tight, straight-leg pants, you have to put them on before you put your pants on. Otherwise, it’s a real struggle to pull up your pants high enough to get the top of the sock all the way up to beneath your knee! I tried the  Nude pair with a pair of heels, and I loved that they actually stayed ON, unlike my other no-show socks which are always falling off and bunching up inside my shoes. The original socks are made of a Coolmax® Ultra Fresh material which is thick, soft, stretchy and definitely warm.

heels

The next pair I tried was the “Light” in Black. The material on these is definitely thinner but still soft and stretchy. The cool thing about these is they are made of an eco-friendly Coffee Charcoal fiber that cools the body 1-2 degrees Celcius in warm weather and warms the body in cooler weather.  Because I live in California where it never really gets that cold, I’d probably stick with these. The surging around the foot is soft against my foot but strong enough to hold the sock on. It goes low enough in the front to wear any kind of heel or slip-on and high enough at the ankle to not show through my pants. The band at the top is tight enough to stay on my calf but not too tight that I feel like I’m losing circulation. These socks have truly taken a problem and solved them flawlessly!

black flat

Keysocks also come in Wide Leg for those with wider calves and Girls sizes, of course in cute colors and patterns. I was also sent two pair of Girls socks and gave them to a friend who has an 11-year old to try them out. She thought they were fun to wear because the bottoms were so slippery, but was worried they still showed a bit through her pants. She also wanted them to not be so high, maybe just ankle height instead of all the way to the knee.

2013-11-14 17.05.51

Keysocks can be purchased online and at select retail locations. Each pair is only $11.95 for Women’s or $4.95 for Girls, which is not bad considering the genius of these socks. Bundles can also be purchased online with discounts of 25-60% off! But even better than that is the opportunity Keysocks has given YOU to win a three-pack of socks; a Women’s Wide Leg in Black, a Women’s Original in Black and a Women’s Original Striped!

I’m really into boots this season.  I’ve been buying them, returning them, picking some up at thrift stores, trading at swap meets, selling them on eBay, online shopping, trying them on in shoe stores, trying on my friends’ boots…I am really on the hunt to have a finite assortment of heeled and flat boots that I love.  All of this boot-wearing has really got me considering the socks I’m wearing with these boots, and I’m getting pickier and pickier.

Kushyfoot-LogoGood thing Kushyfoot sent me a huge assortment of some of the best from their Fall collection!

IMG_8169

In this set (which will also be awarded to one winner), I got to review fleece tights, fleece trouser socks, microfiber tights in heather gray, opaque knee length socks, shaping tights, some microfiber crews.  I’m totally set for this Fall!  Let me show you some of my favorites:
1) The Fleece Tights:
tights
Holy cow.  Its like they’ve taken a pair of tights and lined them entirely with a soft sweatshirt.  I don’t know how they’ve done it, but these are the coziest, warmest, most wonderful tights for the inside of boots, under skirts, or just to keep your legs warm under dress pants on a cold day.
2) The Fleece Trouser Socks:
fleece socksThere are exactly like the tights, but obviously socks.  I love that they really are tall enough to cover up to my knees, for when I’m wearing knee-high boots.  So cozy inside!
3) The Microfiber Tights
IMG_8173I love the heather gray.  So all of these Kushyfoot products are more than just tights and socks.  They have that added cushion in them to make them more comfortable and friendly on your feet.  The texture is not bulky enough to be a bother, but just enough to notice a difference when you’re on your feet all day.
IMG_8179

4) Knee Length Socks

IMG_8329

If you wear dress pants or long skirts to work, these are a must.  The solid socks have great compression, which should really help if you are on your feet all day, and I like how tightly woven these fishnets are.  The cushy texture on the soles is so comfy, and I LOVE this fishnet look in a knee-high.

5) Shaping Tights

black

Compression, compression!  These are SHAPERs!  Let me tell you.  I’ve never felt so compressed by a pair of tights ever.  It might take a little legwork (haha) to get in these, but once you’re in, you’re held in well.  While putting them on, it felt like I had ordered the wrong size, but once snuggly inside, I felt compressed, put together, and very shapely.  Instead of feeling restricting, I found them really comfortable and even after wearing them church, I left them on all day, which says a lot, seeing as tights are usually the very first thing that come off when I walk in the door.  I like that they are opaque with just a hint of sheer without adding any bulk to my legs.  The compression around the stomach and butt is impressive.

6) Microfiber Crews

IMG_8184

These have been great with my shorter boots and regular shoes.  I wore these last weekend with my cowboy boots to our Halloween Party.  Totally comfortable while still being nice and thin.  These are great at not adding bulk to your shoes or boots that are a perfect fit.  They stay up nicely and are super soft.

Aren’t all of these great!?  Enter below to win your own set of all eight products in your size!  {$50 value}

My junior high years are filled with drawers of holiday-themed and loudly printed socks.  Those super cute dollar store socks are so fun, but let’s be honest, they don’t hold up well.  A few washes and wears later, and they’ve got holes and are covered in pills.   Now that I’m supposed to be dressing like a grown-up, I need socks and tights that are comfortable and will hold up after a few washings.  I’ve found some great socks and tights that are doing just that:

Kushyfoot-LogoI reviewed several of their cute and cozy foot covers a few months ago, so I already knew I’d love what else kushyfoot has in store.  Again, I was impressed and pleased.  First off, I think their packaging is just so cute!

IMG_7793This time I reviewed their shaping tights, fleece trouser socks, and a pair of microfiber crew.  First let me show off the tights:

Next up are the Microfiber Crews:

3492 Microfiber Crew_2

Notice the wavy textures on the soles that help to keep them in place and provide a little ‘cush’ in your step.  I wore these with my cowboy boots to our Halloween Party last weekend.  Totally comfortable while still being nice and thin.  These are great at not adding bulk to your shoes or boots that are a perfect fit.  They stay up nicely and are super soft.

And then there’s the fleece trouser socks.

IMG_8048 Holy cow.  Its like they’ve taken a pair of socks and lined them entirely with a soft sweatshirt.  I don’t know how they’ve done it, but these are the coziest, warmest, most wonderful socks for the inside of boots or just to keep your calves warm under dress pants on a cold day.

My first child wanted nothing to do with a pacifier.  My second is rarely seen without one.  He is attached to it like an old man and his eyeglass or pocket-watch, the way we have to tether it to him so he won’t lose it!  Doom on the parent who has to put the baby to bed and can’t find the binky.  The first binky clip we got was from a dear friend (thanks Chappy!) and he has completely worn it to threads!  This is after hours and hours and hours of love!

IMG_3866

Yup, time for a new one!  Also, take note of all the drool dripping down his chest.  Its a big problem lately.  I’m having to change his clothes throughout the day just so that he’ll have a dry shirt.  Two problems where Bazzle Baby came to our rescue!  Everything they sent me was EXACTLY what we needed around here!

IMG_4186 copy

Tan-ta-ra!  The Banda Bib and Paci Clip!  This Banda Bib rocks.  It catches that drool like a boss.

Print

When I first saw these online, I thought I could easily make one myself, but after handling this Bazzle Baby product, I see the superior features that make this well worth the cost of just buying it for $12.  This is not just a bandana.  These have a very strong and sturdy velcro fasten behind the neck that is adjustable, and a soft terry lining behind.  They are sewn very well, and can hold up to a lot of wear and washings.

baz3

Good velcro is so important when you have a baby who likes to rip things off his neck!  I can’t keep a bib on “Little Brother” for the life of me, but he must find these comfortable or not worth the exertion of pulling it off, because he will leave these well enough alone.  I think he prefers to wear them, actually.  Cool.

baz2

Also, behind the colorful fabric is a layer of soft, absorbent terry cloth.  Look at all this drool it is catching!!  Halfway through the day, I’ve been switching out his bib for a clean one, and his shirt is completely dry underneath!

IMG_4234

Get two or three of these–they’re saving me heaps of laundry!  He’s been wearing these non-stop, even during his naps, and he seems much more comfortable throughout the day.

baz1

We also received two Paci Clips–they are so cute and functional!  The length is just right on these–not too long to dangle out of baby’s reach, but long enough to clip nearly anywhere and still not get yanked out of his mouth.  The grosgrain ribbon is a terrific choice, and the edge details are darling.  These start at $5.50?!  Definitely worth it.  Here are some other way cute styles:

I’ve been having way too much fun dressing up the baby for photoshoots lately :).  I know he will only let me for so long before he has a definite opinion of his own about what he will and won’t wear, but in the meantime, I’ll take advantage of it while I can!  I’ve found a darling shop called Baby Wingz that carries baby accessories that I think you’ll love if you have a baby in your life (or one on the way!).

Pictures3-005 (1)Get a load of these simply adorable baby socks! Untitled-1

I probably should have picked out something a little more masculine or slightly more subtle, but as soon as I saw these crazy star socks, I knew I couldn’t go back!  There’s something so Rainbow Bright about them!  And seeing as the baby goes around in just socks 24/7, they might as well be adorable and they make everyone smile who sees them!  My favorite feature is the grippy bottoms.  Perfect for this little guy who things he needs to be walking.

Baby Wingz also carries some stinkin adorable baby hats!  For boys too!

And I know you probably already think I’m crazy for hoarding baby girl things, but I just couldn’t pass up a little baby pink bracelet!  Ohh, cute, right?  Baby Wingz’s baby bracelets are so sweet and simple, and are each $7-8.

Precious right?  Besides these baby-perfect items, Baby Wingz also carries baby shoes and flower headbands, and I just noticed on their website the upcoming addition of R2C Couture!  I’m sure its going to be awesome, since it looks like they will be carrying accessories, necklaces, bracelets, and apparel!  I know I’ll be checking back frequently to check out the new items.

Well, lucky readers, TWO winners can each pick out TWO items from Baby Wingz!!  That makes four happy people–mommies and their babies!
