But before we get into the review item, let me explain our apartment and our need for some help. I don’t know how old our apartment is, but there are sure some funky things about it. Clearly it was originally built at a time when the only way to heat the house was through a wood burning stove in the kitchen. There is only one bathroom, with all the pipes exposed, and its on the main floor (with no bathroom upstairs near the bedrooms), and what really kills me are that there are NO CLOSETS downstairs!! It was almost a deal-breaker, but we were really getting limited on options in trying to find something deleaded in Boston. I still love our place, but we’ve had to get a little creative with storage.
No closets means a lot of visible clutter and our mud room has become the dumping ground. I think the biggest problem is the variety of shapes and sizes of things that need organized.
Brylane Home offered us the 5-Tier Metal Closet with Hanging Rod to help in our Fall-cleaning frenzy around here, and it has been the best thing to rock our mud room! It came in a number of compact pieces packaged extremely well and extremely hard to separate! For the best, I guess.
The instructions are kind of intense because there a just so many steps to putting this together! Follow the directions and you’ll be fine. Two women (myself and my sister-in-law) were able to put it together in probably 45 minutes. Approach it calmly and the instructions will be straightforward and everything you need is included.
Ta-da! Once put together, this is VERY sturdy! Lots of nuts and bolts in several directions holds everything together and gives you the peace of mind that it will hold a lot of weight.
There is a place for everything! I love that everything is off the floor, with compartments all up the right side, and the long open space up top. The clothing rack is high enough from the bottom that you can hang coats and still store shoes below without much competition for space. The coat rack feels like it could even handle a child swinging from its rod.
My only criticism is that I wish more of the swirly designs up the sides were right-side-up hearts instead of upside down. I kind of think of butts instead of hearts when I see them. Maybe its a well-known style I don’t appreciate. Its still gorgeous, regardless.
