Demi Lune Pizza Cutter by Epica {Review}

Have you noticed all of my food/cooking-related reviews lately?!  Fall is the season to COOK!  I think it is the colder weather that brings us inside and makes us more acutely aware of all the glorious scents and flavors of fall cooking since we’re gathering more often around the kitchen stove instead of the backyard grill.  With so many things to cook, and so many recipes to create, I need good tools and equipment!  As I’ve been more frequently using our knives and blades lately, I’ve been noticing how dull they are becoming, and how even a pizza cutter doesn’t last forever.  When I was asked to review this Demi Lune 13 3/4″ Pizza Cutter by Epica, I instantly (said yes and) thought of all the things I could do with this!

Chop nuts, slice bread, mince herbs, chop vegetables, slice fruit, etc.  This is not a one-trick pony.  I’m dying to try using it as a sort of chopper/mixer/scooper blade on some ice cream, just like Cold Stone Creamery. But let’s focus on its awesomeness as a pizza cutter.  This thing is huge.  So wide at 13 3/4″ long, that it can slice practically any pizza from crust to crust with one swoop.  Its 3″ tall, so deep dishes aren’t even a problem.  We found that it was actually too long for our pans with lips/edges like in the picture below, and we couldn’t get to both crust edges in one swoop, but we agreed that this weapon would go to town on a pizza stone.
So sturdy!  This guy is made of heavyweight 18/0 stainless steel.  The handle is smooth and easy to grasp, and though it might look hard to clean, its completely dishwasher safe.  I only wish it came with a cover!  This is a weapon of mass destruction!  Where am I going to store this?!
The best part about using a demi lune blade on pizza is that it doesn’t drag toppings down into the cut, or pull them along like a hand cutter does.  My biggest beef with our hand cutter is that when the pizza is on a round pan and you’re trying to slice it up 8 ways, the round blade reaches the edge of the round pan and the crust edges never get chopped.  I usually have to bring out the kitchen shears after that and finish the job.  This Epica blade attacks the crust with ease, and the sharp almost-90° corners can easily reach those difficult crust edges.
What a fun thing to have in the kitchen!
