I’ve often come to the conclusion that SO much of what I do as a mom is categorized under odor control.  Must keep the kids bathed, the dishes out of the sink, the trash taken out, and most important of all, I must keep the diaper stench at bay.  There is nothing on this earth that is more putrid than a bag of diapers from two pooping boys that has been festering in a diaper pail for a week.
Until now, we’ve been using a generic diaper pail that uses plastic shopping bags and lifts and closes with the handle bar.  Its been fine for us, but I think after three and a half years of holding in the fumes, that it just isn’t containing it as well as I’d like, even with it sitting on our back steps.
whisper-diaper-pail-logoReviewing a new kind of diaper container was definitely something I was up for.  How can a cleaner-smelling home not be on the wish list?  Moms of the world, introducing the Whisper Odor-Free Diaper Pail.  Truly.  This pail utilizes a new breakthrough odor-protection technology that I’ll tell you more about.
The Whisper Odor-Free Diaper Pail comes fully assembled, but still manages to have several pages of instructions on how just to work it right.  There are several inner pieces and everything is very tight and close-fitting.  I’m sure this is crucial to creating the tightest seal possible, really making this 100% odor free.  8-gallon size bags are recommended.  Here in the picture I used a 13-gallon bag, so you can see its a little ‘baggy’ (haha), but the open grips on the bag help to gather in the extra width and hold it down out of the way.
One thing that makes this pail unique and revolutionary is the three levels of odor protection: the top lid, the inner lid, and the an effective odor eliminating spray.  I think the inner spray mist is a fantastic idea.  More odor control when you want it, plus the ability to make it kid-proof (un-pushable).  Also on my criteria is the type of bag it uses.  I’m not keen on paying for bags that are only specially designed for this canister, so the fact that it only needs 8-gallon bags is great with me.
(Notice in the picture above how the gray thumb-size tab on the side can be pushed in and out to lock the lid up or down.  You also have the option of disengaging the spray button, so that this really becomes untouchable to the babies)
Yes, everything is hands-free as it claims, until you have to get the goodies out.  In the meantime, you are only stepping on the lever, dropping the present in, and pressing a button to squirt an ODOGard spray mist into the bag.  Its true, you can stay germ-free and touchless, but at the end of the week, there is quite a bit you have to touch and smell–opening the locks, removing the trap door, lifting out the entire center pail, unhooking the trash bag excess, then loading everything back up again.  Its more work than I’m used to, but I think its worth it in the end.

pailBeing able to operate this one-handed is key when you have a squirmy baby who does not like to be naked.

The pail is taller than our last one, so I’m pleased to report that it can comfortably hold all the poopy diapers my two boys and generate in a full week.  Glad to not be emptying this more than I have to.  *Update: the oldest is officially potty-trained (who-hoo!), so the pail is only holding one-boys-worth of diapers like a champ, but know that it could hold twice as much just fine.
So is it truly stench-free?  Ya!  It really is.  Not a wif of anything for the full 5-6 weeks we’ve been using it.  I’m so pleased!  Even as I’m taking the bag out and changing it for a new one, I’m not as attacked by the smell as in the past.  I think the spray has something to do with that.
You can purchase this Whisper Odor-Free Diaper Pail on Amazon HERE for $64.99.  Worth it?  Totally.
