Lorex Sweet Peek Video Baby Monitor {Giveaway} – CLOSED

About a month ago, our (locked!) house (in a very safe neighborhood!) was broken into during the day while my husband was at work and the boys and I were running errands.  I came home in the afternoon, sent the boys in the house to get their shoes off, and started getting the groceries out of the van.  I walked in the door to find our safe completely broken open in the front room with the documents strewn around, a couple of pictures knocked off the wall, and the back door still partially open.  The boys and I were back in the van and down the street at a friend’s house within record time, and the police responded to my call within minutes.

We got a phone call a couple of weeks later from the detective, who said that they caught the person and had our items back.  I was honestly shocked to have gotten that phone call since I thought it was a long shot that anything would be returned!  We’ve made a few changes at our house, though, including installing a home security system, and we’ve had LOTS of conversations about it with our four-year-old who is still trying to process what happened and, more importantly to him, why it happened.

In preparation for baby number three to come in the next several weeks, I was thrilled to have the chance to review a video baby monitor from Lorex Baby — especially after this experience!  We actually have never owned a baby monitor because I couldn’t imagine that it really would put me at ease; I never feel like I’m able to hear anything on those monitors, outside of shrieks and cries that I can hear just fine without one.  A video monitor, though, is a different story.  I like the idea of being able to actually see that my baby is snug in his bed without blankets over his face or in places that could potentially cause strangulation.

We were sent the Lorex Sweet Peek digital baby monitor with a wireless camera, and I have to say that my husband has probably had more fun with this item that I ever imagined someone could!  Immediately after he had it opened and set up, he and the boys spend a good part of the afternoon going in to the room to dance/play/tell jokes/whatever while the others watched on the monitor.  They loved being able to turn on the light and the lullaby music, and they played a rousing game of “walkie-talkies” with the two way talk feature.  🙂

Even from my pregnancies with them, my two boys have been exact opposites — with one I craved oranges and string cheese, while with the other I craved chocolate oranges and Nerds.  One of my sweet boys is sensitive with lots of emotion while the other is more rough and tumble.  One of them never took to dinosaurs and transportation (try as I might!), and the other in love with both dinosaurs and transportation right now.

Can you guess which one is in my little boy’s room right now?  Yep, this cute fire truck — I had opened the box when it arrived while he was napping, and he saw it when he woke up and immediately wanted to turn it on.  (**In a cute aside note that might only appeal to his mom/grandmas/aunts, he also looked over the top of the 2.5D picture to see the light bulb, then he turned to me with squinty eyes from the brightness of the light.  Adorable!)

Who’s afraid of the dark???

Here is Banjo all geared up for ‘Light the Night 2013’ (annual fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) and it doesn’t start until September:

But he’s ready.  Fired up.  He’s got his game face on and he’s ready to take on that 2 mile walk!

Doesn’t it appear that he’s the bravest little kid you know?  He’s not afraid of anything, right?  Wrong.  Lately Banjo has been complaining about being afraid of the dark.  At first we thought he was just trying to get out of going to bed on time.  Making excuses for why he just needed to stay up later.  However, it has continued to the point that we have now accepted that the fear is real.  Fortunately for us we were given this fantastic night light (compliments of the people at Sunset Dimmer) several months ago.  If you have a kiddo afraid of the dark then you gotta get one.  It’s a really life saver!

Hook it up to your child’s lamp, set the timer for 30 minutes and it will slowly dim.  During that time your child will adjust to the night time light and fall asleep before the light goes completely off.  It’s a great solution to help ease a child into the dark.

Plus, with the Sunset Dimmer  you can place a lamp on a timer when you are going out of town.  Then people will think you are home when you are not!  We always like to do this when we leave town.  It just gives us this added sense of security.

Thanks Sunset Dimmer for creating a product that has more than just one use!
