I really appreciate Mother’s Day being roughly a month before Father’s Day because it gives me the opportunity and the time needed to make my gifts and sentiments and desserts just a step above what my husband did for me 🙂 I don’t like to be outdone.

1510808_207801876083137_1628364874_nIf you’ve started thinking about what to give your man or your own father for that holiday in the not so distant future, do what I did and consider this monthly tie subscription called Root Bizzle!

7de90b70cbe341c48e9e2beb2a34f384Stylish silk ties are delivered monthly, and based on your preference of business ties, skinny ties, and whimsical ties.  Designs are curated monthly.  This is footage of the actual tie reveal:

He is actually very pleased at this point, even though his face doesn’t show it!  Since Charlie has lots of occasions to wear ties, namely the business professional work place and church every Sunday, we chose a “business tie” subscription.  These are classic designs for the corporate world, that tend to pair well with classic dress shirts, sports coats and suits.  I love the design!!  I think this tie is certainly classy, a little different, not boring, professional, and it works great with dark suits.  I hope to see this worn around quite a bit!

tie1

These are high quality ties, yo!  They are real silk, with fine stitching and beautiful linings (check out that blue polka dot above).  Ties come in standard 58″ length, but you have the option of selecting a 63″ extra long length.  A recent new feature is the addition of bow ties to their subscription options!  Self-tying or pre-tied.  How fun is that!?

tie2

Subscriptions are $25/month, but naturally, you can save by ordering more than one month at a time.  A 6-month subscription puts your ties down to $20/each.  Jot this down for future Father’s Days for your husbands, boyfriends, fathers, and grandfathers.  You can’t go wrong with a classy tie!

Treasure Pack {Review}

Warning: Use of undefined constant user_level - assumed 'user_level' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/dandysof/dandygiveaway.com/wp-content/plugins/ultimate-google-analytics/ultimate_ga.php on line 524

When I first came home to show off my new engagement ring, my realist brothers couldn’t fathom the amount of money they were expected to spend on a single pieces of tiny jewelry for their future betrothed.  They kept muttering things about getting a fake ring, ‘what’s wrong with cubic zurchonia’, ‘who will ever tell the difference’, and ‘if she’s the right girl for me, she’ll value saving money’.  Ha ha ha!  Don’t worry, since then, both of these brothers have both gotten their fiances something real, but I do see their point!  When it comes to jewelry, sometimes you CAN get by  on something pretty and glam that only costs a few dollars.  If you agree with this statement, you’re going to love Treasure Pack.

pack1Treasure Pack is a monthly subscription box of $14.99 a month, where you receive around fifteen pieces of assorted jewelry.  Think about it–15 new pieces of jewelry every month makes for a new piece every other day!  You could wear something new to work or school basically every day.  Now THAT’s a way to change up your wardrobe.

pack2

I knew I’d be getting a hit-or-miss assortment, but I was still so excited about this!  I thought surely there would be one or two wonders that would be right up my jewelry alley.  And I was right!  Among a few oddities, I did find some things I just love!!  Favorite #1 are these leafy rings as seen above and in the top picture.  There were three included–each a different size!  Smart and thoughtful.

pack3Favorite #2 are these art deco earrings.  They are exactly my style.  Not too big, a little glam, a little color, and easy to coordinate with all sorts of outfits.

Now what I really love is this vintage cameo on brass necklace!  Charming is the perfect word for it.  The chain is strong, the medallion is nice and heavy and the color is great.  Also included in this box was a pearl bracelet, hot air balloon pennant necklace, teal beaded cuff bracelet, dangling pearl earrings that look just like a cluster of grapes, and a leather-and-brass necklace with a key charm and stamped letters.

pack4In all, I think this is a fantastic box.  You get a great assortment of ‘treasures’, and enough of them that you’re bound to find enough favorites or personality-wins to make it worth the $15.  This small company based in California creates packs out of thousands of different products and they handpick items that will be shipped to their customers, so you know you’re not just getting a handful of overseas junk.

Try it out!  Subscriptions can be cancelled anytime, and they even have an affiliate program which pays you $1 per month for each client you recruit until he/she cancels the subscription.

Order your first Treasure Pack!

February Starbox by Starlooks {Review}

This is my FIFTH Starbox, and each time I open another box, I am impressed, pleased, and so satisfied with what comes in the mail.  I can’t WAIT for it to arrive!  If you’re new, let me explain what it is.

Starbox is a monthly subscription box full of full-size professional makeup, and for only $15/month.  But unlike many other subscription boxes that I have tried, Starbox brings you FULL-SIZE items that last more than one or two applications.  This is also not an assortment of obscure and upcoming/unknown brands–they send products from the Starlooks makeup line, which is seriously PRO quality makeup, comparable to Sephora, M.A.C, Chanel, and Dior.

logo_animLet me woo you a little with their past boxes so you can get a taste of what you could be getting:

allfour

Here is last April, November, December, and January.  (The highlight was December’s box: a $99 value eyeshadow palette!)  If you subscribed for one year, imagine the complete transformation and wide array of high-end makeup you’d have in your collection!  And all from the same brand for a uniform, professional look in your makeup box.IMG_9927

This month was no exception to the high-quality things that come Starbox delivers every month.  Within the box was a cream shadow in Phaser ($12), Lipstick in Drew ($12), and pigment in Tungsten ($17).  Starbox will often throw in an extra freebie, like a pencil sharpener or a nail file.  This month was a stretchy headband ($1?) to keep the hair out of your face while you paint away.  That makes this month a $42 value.

IMG_9931Since purply orchid IS the Pantone color of the year, I thought this lilac color (+purple headband) were spot on.  You can use the cream shadow as a base or as a color pop, and I think its a great shade to transition us into spring.  The loose pigment in that dark Tungsten color is intense!  It is dark, easy to apply, adheres well, and lasts throughout the day.  Be careful with this one and don’t slip up!  Its like painting on your face with ashes.

IMG_9936Starbox’s lipsticks are fantastic.  They aren’t drying and they last for hours.  I wore last month’s lipstick + gloss to a family dinner, a wedding, the wedding reception, church, etc.  Its a favorite in my bag.  This Drew shade is sheer metallic shimmer that looks kind of spacey, but the theme of this month was “Futuristic” after all.

IMG_9970I love all the new things I’ve been able to try with Starbox.  I love my growing collection of this high-end makeup line!  Add to your makeup box some of the newest, most affordable, high quality makeup, all while being entirely lead free, emolient free, and cruelty free.

What does “Indie” actually mean?  Part of the way you think?  Following your own mind?  Someone who shies away from labels and anything mainstream and commercial?  Whatever it means, this cute little Indie Gift Box is probably quite appropriately named because it is full of unique treasures and gifts that are anything but mainstream or commercial.  They are charming, one-of-a-kind, and totally cute/charming items from independent artists and small businesses.

300x300

This is a monthly box subscription, so every month, you can get a taste of new small businesses and a sampling of fun treasures.  You can choose if you’d like your subscription to be on-going, or simply a one-time spree, but keep in mind you will be getting $35-$80 worth of items for only $25.

IMG_9344

I love seeing the work of passionate artisans vs. big name brands.  Even from the packaging, you get a sense of a personal touch of handmade thoughtfulness.  I was sent the January box which was called “Bright Beginnings”!  It was valued at over $60, and it was full of beautiful treasures!IMG_9349

Every month is themed so that you can look ahead and decide if the upcoming month is for you or not.  “Bright Beginnings” contained that Glamssence bracelet in the bottom right corner with “celebrate” on it (which I gave to my little sister for her 19th birthday last week), and the postcard on the far right from Inspired Cards.  I quickly used it to send a note to say hi to a friend!

mailMore favorites were this mineral makeup from Simplicity Cosmetics (a gorgeous blush!), and these really fun brilliant green earrings from Nazari Jewelry!  I wore them to the mall on date night.  They feel so cosmic and they go perfectly with my favorite thing in the box…

earrings

…a 2014 Stitch the Stars Calendar Kit from Heather Lins Home!  How charming/cool/creative/displayable and unique!  Every month has a new constellation and the thread is glow-in-the-dark :).  Totally right up my alley, and its actually only $9.99 right now.

starsIndie Gift Box was so dear to send me December’s box as well!  Above is a sampling from that “Miracle on 34th Street”, which contained handmade nailpolish from CoCoLacQuer, a darling Christmas card from Se La Vee, stunning crystal rock earrings from Words to Bead By, and this oval-shaped tinted lip balm that I’ve been using daily.  Mmm, it smells and feels fantastic.  Here is another sampling of what you could get:

prettybohob

Bottom line: I really love this box.  I haven’t come across anything quite so unique and full of such treasures that all make such excellent gifts.  I think sending a box to a friend for their birthday would really boost your placement on the ‘best friend list’.

Have you been woo’ed yet?  It looks like you can still get this month’s box which is titled “The Librarian”, and by the look of what it might contain, all I can think of is “must get this box!”  It’s promised to contain things along the lines of cat eye glasses, lace collars, vintage rings, and a cute little nose buried in books.  Oh!  Only 150 boxes have been made, so hurry hurry hurry!

While you’re jumping on that steal, enter below to win an Indie Gift Box of your own!

Starbox time!!  Last month’s Starbox was so incredible that I just couldn’t wait to open January’s box!  The theme this month was “Surprise Yourself”, so based on other reviewer’s comments, it looks like none of us were given a tracking notification email–we just had to wait and be surprised as to when it would show up!  Love that.  I also gathered that every Starbox subscriber got something different in their box this month!  What an even better surprise!

logo_animIn case you’ve forgotten what Starbox is all about, or you’re new to Dandy and this is the first you’re hearing of it, I’ll explain.  Starbox is a monthly subscription box where you are sent a select number of items each month, but unlike many other subscription boxes that I have tried, Starbox brings you FULL-SIZE items that last more than one or two applications.  They are also not an assortment of obscure and unknown brands–they send products from the Starlooks makeup line, which is seriously PRO quality makeup, comparable to Makeup Forever, Sephora, M.A.C, Chanel, and Dior.

IMG_9487This month’s box arrived fairly late in the month, so I had a lot of time to anticipate what treats would show up in my mailbox.

IMG_9494As promised, four full-sized items and a bonus zebra nail file!  I love when they throw in extras like that.  November’s pencil sharpener has been super handy.

IMG_9495Aren’t these colors pretty for January?  Shimmery, sleek, not too loud…

IMG_9499I was so pleased with everything in the box this month.  One really fun item was a pair of eyelashes ($13).  Talk about drama!  The glue container it arrived with was a little flimsy and hard to control, but the lashes are high quality and very dramatic, flexible, and long.

jan1This cream pot liner ($13), which I blended over the lid as a cream eye shadow, is shimmery gorgeous!  This is Milky Way – Satin.  I love how all of the Starlooks products I own are long-lasting, easy to apply, and comfortable to wear.

IMG_9642Lastly, the tender gloss lipstick ($13), in Puzzy, and the lip gloss ($12) in Pearl Necklace are so pretty together!  I’m usually not one who loves a lot of lip color, so this combination is perfect for me.  I feel like it could be dressed up or down, while still being noticeable.  Such a sweet color for Jan./Feb.  The hexagonal shape of the lip gloss is fun and easy to grasp and twist.

IMG_9666The total cost of my box was over $50, so for $15, wouldn’t you say I’m getting a steal (every month!)?

Hurry and start your subscription!  Don’t miss out on another box of wonders for only $15!

IMG_9157

I really squealed when I opened my new eyeshadow palette.  I am SO pleased with this selection of colors, since I reeeeally needed some more of these highlighters.  This palette was custom designed by Starlooks to be fashion-forward and special.  I think all these neutrals are essential, and I’ve really been wanting to steer away from cool colors lately, so all these warm and yummy shades are just what I hoped for.  Merry Christmas to me!

A fresh coat of nail polish has got to be the easiest and fastest ways to feel glamorous!  I love how my mom usually has clear fingernails, but when holidays and vacations roll around, she’s quick to put on some color!  I feel the same way.  A lifestyle of picking dried pasta off the floor, scrubbing dishes, and picking children’s noses is not conducive to having immaculate nails every day of the year, but whenever we travel or have company over, hit me up!CMM-logo-new

I love how certain colors of polish remind me of certain events, places, or people.  There is a coral I own that I always associate with a best friend who wore it first.  Deep maroon reminds me of our 5th anniversary, and tan/cream will always remind me of my brother’s wedding.  And now, sparkly green will always remind me of this Christmas!

IMG_9079

Color Me Monthly is a monthly nail polish subscription that will add some surprises to your nail polish collection.  It takes out the selection-stress and the need to go polish shopping.  When you sign up for a $7 subscription, you get a new, hand-picked and fashion forward color every month!  The last time I tried Color Me Monthly in April (and you can read that review HERE), I fell in love with the high-quality polish that lasted for easily more than a week without a chip.

Nail-Polish-Subscriptions

This month (Dec.), the color is this sparkling green called “Wrapped in Tinsel”!  Could it be more perfect for Christmas time?  The fantastic part about this high-quality nail polish is that I know it will last all of the holiday break.  I did a review for Color Me Month last spring, and I’m pretty sure it was a full week before I noticed a single chip.

 IMG_9179

I love being able to get a currently on-trend color, hand-picked, and delivered to my door.  Its also nice to know that I’ll be getting something eco-friendly, made in the USA, cruelty-free and FULL-SIZE.
IMG_9178
This is high quality nail polish!  I would compare it to Essie or OPI, based on the density, shimmer, and how long it remains unchipped.  I imagine these bottles cost well over the $7/month you’d pay for a subscription.  Treat yourself to a very cheap and fun monthly subscription that you can enjoy all month long and beyond!

November Accessories Box from Wantable {Review}

One of my most favorite things: Wantable.  Remember how I was head or heels about last month’s box?  After they knocked it out of the park for me, I kind of wanted nothing more than another box from Wantable!  I was so pleased and so satisfied with Wantable’s ability to hand select pieces of jewelry that were exactly to my preferences, even if I didn’t know it, that I knew this month wouldn’t be any different.
Wantable-Logo
With Wantable, you have the option of tweaking your preferences a little with each box.  This time, I wanted to go a little more towards “every day classic” and a little less towards “statement”, so I adjusted my preferences accordingly.  I also indicated that I would LOVE earrings and another watch this time, and so that is exactly what I got!
 Untitled-4
Once again, I tracked my Wantable box on a daily basis until it got here, and when it arrived, I pulled out treasure after treasure with just as much glee as last month.
 IMG_8394
I love everything!!!  Home run again, Wantable.  First were these tortoise shell stellar earrings priced at over $30 that I think are marvelous.  Exactly my style, of the highest quality, and just what I had in mind when I wanted Wantable to just dazzle me with something great.
 IMG_8397
Next were these smaller earrings.  They are tiny rings on posts.  Cute and simple, and still a little unique.  They’re a little small for my liking, but if I think of them as posts, they’re great.  By the way, these items retail for $24, $36, and $18, making the value of this box well over the $36 you pay if you get a subscription.  Even if you ordered a one-time box for $40, you’re getting a steal.
 IMG_8514
The winning item, again, was the watch.  Big and beautiful, classic, and still considered a statement by the size and details.  I had this one sized before these pictures were taken, so if it looks a little small, know that four entire links were taken out to fit my wimpy wrists.
IMG_8510 IMG_8506
So did you know Wantable does way more than just accessories??  They have a makeup box, an accessories box, an intimates box, and occasionally a holiday box.  If I were wealthy beyond reason, this is exactly how I would be spending my cash.  One of each, every month!  Oh my glory, how fun would that be?!  These would be so fun to give as Christmas gifts!

By this point in summer, I’m assuming that many of you have had your kids out of school for a couple of weeks, meaning that you’ve stayed up late, slept in the next morning, lounged and played at the pool, and have had endless sleepovers with friends.  And, if you’re anything like me, you’re realizing that you can only take the laziness for a couple of weeks before you crave a little bit of structure and routine back in your schedule again.

My little boy is in preschool for a couple of mornings a week, and our afternoons can get really long while we’re stuck in the house for a couple of hours while my youngest naps each day.  These afternoon hours are the only time that my four-year-old can watch movies and play on the computer, but we can only take so much of that each day before we start to feel like time is being wasted.  And, if you’re like me, your Pinterest board titled “Kids Activities” has about 200 pins on it with lots of amazing ideas — but you realize at 2:30 p.m. when you can’t leave the house that you don’t have all materials needed for those fabulous art projects, experiments, sensory activities, etc.

 NewLogo

If you’re in either one of these binds and are looking for something fun to sneak in some learning while having fun, Sneakin’ in Science is an excellent monthly subscription box that includes all materials needed for a great science experiment!  From my experience, science experiments seem to be the one-size-fits-all activity that can capture of the attention of kids of (almost) all ages.  We received these three activities in the mail:

subscription

April-Geodes/Mineral Dig Kit If you like collecting rocks and minerals then this month’s experiment is for you!  Not only will you get to search through soil to find samples of different minerals you’ll also get to crack open a geode to see the crystals inside.  You’ll get a mineral dig kit in which you will find samples of common minerals.  The mineral dig includes a guide to help you id the minerals you find as well as information about how they form and their properties.  You’ll also receive a geode that will need to be put into an old sock or bag to be split with a hammer (safety goggles and adult supervision are a must!).

**This was a good activity that my son did outside with my husband while I was teaching piano lessons, but I heard about it for the rest of the evening!  The most exciting part of this experiment for my four-year-old was trying to break open the geode with Dad, and they enjoyed using tools and magnifying glasses to see things inside.

april

May-Marshmallow Launcher Learn all about air and air pressure with this month’s experiment, a marshmallow launcher!  You will receive material to make a contraption that will launch marshmallows at least 8 feet.  You can put your materials together in the recommended way or experiment and design your own unique marshmallow launcher!  You also get stickers to decorate your creation along with some neat experiments you can try to learn more about air.

**Definitely the favorite of the three that we received!  We enjoyed following the directions to put together the marshmallow launcher itself, then we came up with some pretty fun games (try to get the marshmallow the furthest, closest to a certain point, to go over the couch, etc.).  Balloons are always a hit at my house, so we had some more fun using those to see how air and wind worked.

marshmallow

June-Sensitive Plant Plants can’t move on their own right?  This one can!  This plant moves on its own when you touch it.  Leave it alone and it goes back to the way it was.  You’ll receive about 5 seeds along with directions on how to plant them.  You are guaranteed to grow at least one plant or I will send you more seeds.  Learn how this amazing plant works!  If you like different kinds of plants you love learning about what it is like to be a botanist!

**Our seeds are planted and we can see growth, but we haven’t gotten to the stage where we see the plants close up — we’re (impatiently!) waiting!  Our neighbors are growing a garden in their backyard, though, so both of the boys enjoyed this experiment so that they could plant something and take care of it the same way they’ve seen our neighbors work with their plants.

June

There is a Sneakin’ in Science subscription plan to fit every budget:

I get a little overwhelmed when I try to shop for make-up.  I’m not completely married to one exclusive brand, so as I peruse the aisles and compare one make-up item to another, I have favorites here and favorites there, and it becomes quite difficult to make decisions.  Sometimes I wish I had a personal assistant to hand-select makeup products that are tested and true, in line with what is popular lately, and hey, if she could drop these things off at my door, I’d be ever so obliged.

Well, wouldn’t you know, Starlooks can do exactly that!  Starlooks carries some of the newest, most affordable, high quality makeup, all while being entirely lead free, emolient free, and cruelty free.  This dreamy makeup line has a monthly box subscription option that you’ll love.

The first thing I pulled out of the box was the “Translucent/Nude” Mineralized Powder.  The great thing about this is that it can be used on every skin tone and creates a matte velvety finish.  It has a cute high-quality puff included, and just as it claims, created a smooth, silky topcoat to my makeup, without drying it out.  Beautiful results!  Next was a Tendergloss in the most spring-appropriate shade of glossy pink/nude shimmer.  I don’t like going crazy with the lip color since I have baby hands always grabbing at my face and only a dozen ways to get it smeared, but I still like to add something to my lips.  This color and the quality of the lip stick make this my new all-time favorite purse companion.  I LOVE how it looks–just a hint of shimmer and color.

Next, I received a “Mint” SPF Lip Balm.  Great scent, great consistency, and the SPF is going to be so important in the coming months!  The last item is my favorite!!  Have you ever heard of a mascara primer?  This is a “Sensation Mascara Primer”, meant to sooth the lashes while moisturizing them, helping them grow.  It also creates a clump-free base for a smooth application of mascara.  I was skeptical that such a product would be necessary or effective, but I was oh so wrong!  After applying the primer, my lashes looked and felt instantly thicker, bulked up, and almost layered as the wand separated my lashes just so.  I applied mascara afterwards, and loved the look so much that I didn’t feel a need to go any further with my eye makeup.  My lashes were so strikingly noticeable, and I kept looking in the mirror throughout the day to admire them.

Go order April’s Starbox before it is sold out!

What makes Starbox different from other makeup companies is that this artist quality makeup comes in full-size quantities and sizes instead of samples or partial amounts.  I’m am SO impressed with the Starlooks makeup line, and having sampled a few products in this monthly subscription box, I’m only more intrigued and drawn to trying more.

Do consider trying out Starlooks and sign up for next month’s Starbox!  For $15, its really a steal of a deal when you consider the retail value of the products you’ll be getting ($40 – $75 in cosmetics)!
