Okabashi {Giveaway}

So it may seem a little rude to be posting about sandals when most of the country is under snow and ice and freezing temperatures, but summer is coming, right? Even though it may not feel like it to some of you, it will be here before we know it, so let’s have some fun day-dreaming about what it will be like when you can wear shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits and sandals…

logo

Okabashi is a sandal company that has been around for 30 years this year and focuses their efforts on making quality products. Their shoes are 100% recyclable, made in the USA and have a 2-year guarantee! Plus, after you’ve worn them to death and are ready for a new pair, you can send them back to the factory and they’ll recycle them for you. Talk about good karma! I reviewed a pair of Women’s Okabashi sandals last June and I loved them! Still love them, actually. You can read my review here, but basically I’ll just say they’re comfy, supportive and come in some super cute designs and colors. And even after a summer of wearing them just about everywhere they still look like new!

feet

But this review isn’t about my Women’s sandals–this time around, I decided to try out the Men’s line! In my last review I mentioned how much I liked the Men’s Indigo sandal in Brown, so I knew this was the sandal I had to try for my husband. Luckily, he agreed they were his favorite pair and that’s what we were sent to review.

Indigo

The sizing is kind of funny–they’re grouped in sizes like size 9.0-10.0, 10.5-11.5, 12.0-13.0, etc.–and he’s right on the border of a 10 and a 10.5. He ordered the 9.0-10.0 because he didn’t want them to be too floppy, but that left his heel right on the edge of the sandal. He doesn’t regret it–they’re still comfy the way they are–but had he known they’d run a little smaller he may have gone with the 10.5-11.5 instead. He says that they are by far the most supportive sandals he’s ever had, though he’s not a huge fan of the nubs on the arch. However, he walked all the way to the pool and back (about a mile) in them while pushing the stroller and had no complaints, so all in all, he says, they’re a great sandal.

Okabashi sandals can be purchased online through their website or at other online retailers. The Indigo (Men’s and Women’s) cost $22.99, but certain styles can be purchased on sale right now for as low as $10.99! Toobalink {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Confession: I hate cheap toys. You know what I’m talking about–the toys that you get from fast food restaurants, play places and the like–that fall apart or the pieces get lost within days of receiving them. Or the toys that just do nothing–they’re not educational, they don’t foster creativity and they’re usually violent or involve crude humor. I really hate those toys. But here is a toy I can be happy with: Toobalink!

Toobalink

Toobalink is a “construction toy that works with paper towel and toilet tissue tubes.” They are made in the USA, and they are very eco-friendly. I mean, what could be more “green” than a toy that is made in the US and uses recycled cardboard tubes?! The idea for Toobalink came from the Metre Ideas design team of Sara Ebert and Will Sakran, who have industrial design and engineering backgrounds. They wanted to make a toy that had classic roots but was re-imagined for today’s “recycle, reduce, reuse” world. And what a better way to recycle those used up paper towel/toilet paper tubes than to turn them into a toy!

examples

I was sent some samples from the Toobalink Starter Kit. The Starter Kit includes 39 pieces: 12 tube connectors, 4 eight-way connectors, 4 six-way connectors, 6 couplers, 4 joiners, 3 long cardboard tubes, 6 short cardboard tubes, and an instruction booklet with examples of things to build. We were sent maybe half that amount, and were able to build lots of things, so the Starter Kit is MORE than enough to build plenty of things and have a ball designing your own toys. The pieces are well made; the plastic joints and connectors are sturdy and thick, and the foam pieces that hold the cardboard rolls are just sticky/thick enough to hold the paper without it falling off.

prize

My son was SO excited to open the package we received and see his new toys! He is only 3 1/2 and the company suggests Toobalink for ages 5+, but with a little help from me, he was able to build a few things on his own. Some of the connectors were hard for him to snap together, so he definitely needed my help there. Eventually, he started building things on his own, and was so proud when he built a star fish all on his own! He lost interest in the toys after a while, but I think that is more due to his age and attention span than any fault of the toy. The TP/paper towel tubes got smooshed and un-usable after only a few uses, but luckily we always had a new TP roll to replace one when another one died!

Playing

The Toobalink Starter Kit can be purchased online for $34.99, which isn’t bad considering how many pieces are included and how many hours of creative play that will buy you! And once you’re all done with your Toobalink, everything except the foam pieces can be recycled–of course it all comes full circle!

Enter below and TWO winners will receive a Toobalink set!

**Because I was sent the winner’s prize items along with my review items, the winner will be responsible for paying shipping from me to you, via PayPal invoice.

What’s the one thing you can’t ever leave the house without? Mine is my water bottle. I started carrying around a water bottle 24/7 in college because one of my roommates swore by it to help lose weight (it works, by the way). Through the years I’ve been through many iterations of bottles. I’ve used and refilled bottled water bottles, I’ve bought really expensive ones from sporting goods stores and I’ve bought really cheap ones from the Dollar Store. But while the bottle has changed, what hasn’t is the fact that I am attached at the hip to my water bottle! So naturally, I was anxious to try out  the only American made metal water bottle by Liberty Bottleworks.

Liberty Bottleworks considers itself a “vintage American company.” Not only do they support jobs in the USA, they pledge 1% of their sales and 1% of their working hours to helping large, local and grass roots efforts, such as the National Park Service, the Conservation Alliance and Keep America Beautiful.  They are also extremely committed to protecting the environment. Their production factory in Yakima, Washington, is filled with state of the art equipment which uses less energy, cleans waste water, and conserves resources. They even melted down their own scrap and made it into more bottles! They are truly Green all the way.

bottles

All Liberty Bottleworks’ bottles are made  from 100% recycled aluminum, are BPA Free, non-toxic and non-leaching. In addition to supporting the environment, Liberty Bottleworks also supports local artists. The Artisan collection features designs by artists who stand behind a cause, and a portion of the sale supports their cause. There are seven pages worth of designs on the Artisan page alone, and all are unique and interesting–there is definitely a bottle for everyone! There are several other cool collections to choose from including the Mass Transit collection, the Topography collection, the Freedom collection, or you can design your own Custom bottle!  They also have a Kids collection with bottles in 12 and 16 ounces and designs kids would like.

I chose to review the Blossom bottle from the Artisan collection. It arrived safely in a small, (most likely) made-from-recycled-materials box. The color of the bottle is beautiful though slightly darker than the picture shown on the website. The design on the bottle is raised, which is due to the cylindrical printers used at Liberty Bottleworks. I like it because it gives me a little something to grip as I constantly drink my water. The metal is smooth and strong; I have dropped it accidentally a few times since receiving it and have yet to see a scratch or a dent. The metal keeps my cold water colder for longer, which I love.

spot

My water bottle goes wherever I go. This is where it lives at night, right next to my bed.

I chose the Sport top as opposed to the Standard cap with an O-ring because I am a straw drinker all the way. I love the easy flip top and the wide loop for holding it when the straw is down. The mouthpiece is smooth and doesn’t leave a weird taste in my mouth like some plastic straws or mouthpieces do. My only complaint would be that while it’s really easy to open the top to fill it, it’s almost too easy and I worry that my kids will pop it open and spill all over themselves or that it will pop off in my purse and soak everything inside. It hasn’t happened yet, but we’ve come close.

After a day at the pool, what I need is some cold water!

If you’re not a fan of the straw-type bottles, never fear! Liberty offers both the Sport top (in black only) and a Standard cap with O-ring in seven different colors to match whichever bottle you choose. Bottles can be purchased  in select, local retailers or online. Prices are really reasonable and start at $15 for the 12 oz. Kids bottle, $18 for 16 oz., $19 for 24 oz. and $20 for the 32 oz. bottle. Connect up with Liberty Bottleworks on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter, or apply to be a Sustainability Officer and spread the word in your home town!

THREE lucky winners will get to pick a Liberty Bottleworks water bottle of their choice!
