Epica Stainless Steel Drinking Straws {Review}

Do you love hosting get-togethers like I do?!  I think I’ve always loved throwing parties.  Olympic parties, Valentine’s parties, Murder Mystery dinners, chocolate nights, etc.  The first party I remember planning and hosting myself was maybe in 5th grade.  I sent out invitations and invited some neighborhood girls over–we ate stuffed Bugles at a decorated card table in my garage.  Hosting overnight guests is a different story, but I thrive on entertaining for a few hours, especially if the event is centered around some theme or occasion!

You guys, I just found some super cute entertaining things for your summer parties!  Epica Stainless Steel Drinking Straws!  Get out!  These are quite strong and sturdy, and they look as if they’ll look just as shiny and scratch-free ten years from now.  They are made from 18/10 stainless steel, which is exceptionally resistant to corrosion.

You’ve seen those cute striped straws at parties lately.  They add a special touch to everyone’s drink, but sometimes I think they are overpriced and its easy to go through dozens in a few minutes before they get thrown away.  These are fantastic way to make your summer drinks classy without adding waste or reoccurring expenses because you can reuse these again and again.  Plus, they are a great alternative to putting your mouth on plastics that might contain toxic chemicals.

I like how these are angled and even have the little grooves around the bend, to look just like the traditional plastic straw.  I think the look is very casual and great for low-key events, and that this same product in a straight, slick design would be more formal and classy for more dressy parties.

They are dishwasher-safe, and included in the set is a little straw brush with nylon bristles.  Cute, huh :)  And very useful for cleaning all sorts of sippy cup straws around here.  These straws came out of the dishwasher just as smooth and shiny as straight out of the package, and without any food clogged inside.  These will be so fun to have around!
Pick up some of these fancy straws for your upcoming summer barbeques!
These are available on AMAZON for $7.49!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Share the Bounty by Benita Long

Share the Bounty is a delightful book—a collection of recipes and brief passages of Christian inspiration.  The theme seems to be “home entertaining with a higher purpose”.   I cuddled up with it on the couch as soon as the kids were in bed, and read through it in an evening.  The calm and inviting introduction made me feel as if reading the book was just as much an invitation into someone’s home.

I really needed this book at this time in my life!  I often feel so much anxiety over guests coming to visit, and I try to avoid inviting others over for meals.  I feel the pressure of things needing to be perfect and myself to be entirely put-together, that I forget what a privilege it can be to invite others into my home and “share the bounty”.

The pictures were visually quaint and calming, though some of them seemed a little dated to me.  I think I would have liked a little more modern influence in the picture selection—namely more modern day décor, centerpieces, and home architecture—though these photo choices are probably very comforting to an older audience who can familiarize themselves with these styles better than I can.

The recipes were very cleanly displayed.  I could prop it up in my kitchen and read off the recipe without having to flip pages, squint, or lose my place on the page.  I enjoyed a scriptural quote or Christian passage on nearly every page.

The book is so complete and visually well-assembled as a recipe book, that it could be on display in the kitchen, instead of on a bookshelf.  I think this book would make a lovely hostess gift, or for family members around the holidays.

I was sold on the first recipe in the book.  I knew as soon as I read “Strawberry Rhubarb Bread” , I wanted to make it.  I was trying to be exotic, but couldn’t find frozen rhubarb ANYWHERE!  In a panic I threw in some bananas as a substitute.  How’s that for a Home-Ec teacher?  Embarassing.

It still turned out delicious!:
