Raise your hands if you’re hosting a party, expecting company, or entertaining family or friends this month!  Isn’t hosting fun!?  I’ve always loved throwing parties and trying to impress my guests with the attention to detail and decor.  Holidays are no exception and I can’t wait to invite people over to use our new 66-Pc. Gold-Plated Flatware Set from Brylane Home!brylanehomeOh how these gleam!  They actually arrived on our anniversary, which was absolutely perfect, because according to the anniversary gift guide, “silverware” is the gift to exchange on your 5th Anniversary!  It couldn’t have been more perfect!  We ooh-ed and ahh-ed over every piece together as we took them out of the packaging and placed them in the box.  It was a good morning 🙂

This set is adequate for as many as 12 guests, as there are twelve dinner knives, twelve dinner forks,  twelve salad/dessert forks, twelve teaspoons, and a 5-pc. hostess set.  We’ve already had the chance to use the whole set for our Thanksgiving meal last weekend!


Having a full 12-guest set was just perfect for our Thanksgiving crowd.  I love how uniform everything looked and how the gold looked next to the Fall colors and flowers.  My family loved the fine silverware!  We agreed that this is a stunning set for $99.  Clearly, they are not pure gold, but who can tell the difference?


I once taught a lesson to my junior high students about hospitality and offered cake slices on different kinds of plates and with different silverware, and then asked which one they would prefer.  With similar pieces of cake, of course, you’d like to eat it on fine china with a gleaming silver fork instead of with a plastic spork on a paper towel!  People notice and care about what they eat with!


Imagine eating with a piece of gold in your fingers.  These look like works of art, and the color is just brilliant.  Someone could have told me that these were solid gold, and I’d believe them.


These arrive in a wooden storage box that is just as high class as the flatware.  It feels like solid wood and it is lined in plush material with slots that keep the flatware separated and stationary during storage.

Moist and Chocolate-y Mousse

Rich, decadent chocolate mousse gives guests a reason to savor every bite of this mouthwatering dessert. The whipped cream and raspberries on top speak to the colors of the season, and you can even add a sprig of fresh mint to each serving to bring in the green. Perhaps the best part is that the mousse simple to make, requiring only 15 minutes of active prep time, which gives you plenty of time to focus on other parts of your Christmas dinner menu.

What You Need

  • 1-1/2 cups fat-free milk, divided

  • 2 oz. semi-sweet chocolate

  • 1 pkg. chocolate instant pudding

  • 2 cups thawed whipped topping, divided

  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries

Make It

  • MICROWAVE 1 cup milk and chocolate squares in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min.; whisk until chocolate is melted. Add remaining milk and dry pudding mix; beat 2 min. Refrigerate 20 min.

  • WHISK in 1-1/2 cups whipped topping; spoon into 6 dessert dishes.

  • TOP with remaining whipped topping and berries.

Cranberry and Orange Trifle

Get out your best trifle bowl for one of the most stunning Christmas desserts you can make. It’s even pretty enough to take center stage on your holiday table. The bright flavors of cranberry and oranges mix with dense, buttery pound cake and rich vanilla pudding for a mouthwatering dessert to end your holiday meal. If you don’t have a trifle bowl, consider making individual trifles in dessert cups instead.

What You Need

  • 2 cups boiling water

  • 1 pkg. (0.6 oz.) cranberry flavor gelatin

  • 1 cup cold water

  • 2 pkg. (1 oz. each) vanilla flavor instant pudding

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 2 cups cold milk

  • 1 tub (8 oz.) whipped topping, thawed

  • 1 pkg. (13.6 oz.) prepared fat-free pound cake, cut into 1/2-inch cubes

  • 1 can (11 oz.) mandarin oranges, drained

Make It

  • ADD boiling water to gelatin mix in medium bowl; stir 2 min. until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water. Pour into 13×9-inch pan. Refrigerate 3 hours or until firm. Cut into 1/2-inch cubes.

  • BEAT pudding mixes, cinnamon and milk in large bowl with whisk 2 min. Let stand 5 min. or until thickened. Stir in whipped topping.

  • REMOVE 1 cup gelatin cubes; set aside. Layer half each of the remaining gelatin cubes, cake cubes, oranges and pudding in 3-qt. serving bowl. Repeat layers; top with reserved gelatin cubes. Refrigerate 1 hour.

White Chocolate-Mint Cheesecake

Candy canes aren’t just for kids, and this easy Christmas dessert flawlessly incorporates the flavor of the season into a moist and rich cheesecake. You’ll have guests savoring every creamy bite and gathering graham cracker crust crumbs from every corner of their dessert plates. Make the cheesecake earlier in the day, or even the day before, to give you plenty of time to focus on your Christmas side dishes and main course.

What You Need

  • 1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs

  • 3 Tbsp. sugar

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

  • 4 pkg. (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 4 squares white chocolate, melted

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 cup thawed whipped topping

  • 16 miniature candy canes

Make It

  • HEAT oven to 325°F.

  • LINE 13×9-inch pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides. Mix graham crumbs, 3 Tbsp. sugar and butter; press onto bottom of pan. Bake 10 min.

  • BEAT cream cheese, 1 cup sugar and extract in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Add sour cream and chocolate; mix well. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing on low speed after each just until blended. Pour over crust.

  • BAKE 40 min. or until center is almost set. Cool. Refrigerate 4 hours. Use foil handles to lift cheesecake from pan before cutting to serve. Top each piece with a dollop of whipped topping and candy cane.
