Joosh’s Juice Bar Children’s Book {Giveaway} – Closed

Synopsis:

When Joosh’s Juice Bar runs out of strawberries, the youngsters are asked to go on a “strawberry run”. Mo and Coco, along with rainforest friends Randy (a mischievous monkey) and Kwamee (a wise green lizard), travel through the Tropland Rainforest and stumble upon a unique glowing berry in Don Ribbit’s forbidden Swampland. Mo and Randy pick the berries, eat them and bring them back to Joosh’s Juice Bar. What seemed like a great idea at first turns sour as Joosh and his wife Holly return home to the juice bar and find the boys making a new juice with the berries! To their surprise, Randy and Mo, along with the animals that also drank their new blue juice, are glowing blue from head to toe! The Joosh Man takes Coco and the boys to seek aid from Doctor Boo Boo (a toucan bird). Will they find a way to wash the blue glow away? Will they get back home safely before the impending rain storm? Entertaining characters with wonderful adventures. Each page filled with colorful art and a story that highlights important eating habits for children of all ages. The Blue Banana Berry Adventure is the first book in the series and written entirely in rhyme, for you and your kids to enjoy a hundred times!

I thought the idea behind Joosh’s Juice Bar was a great; a story about a family living in the jungle, hanging out their animal friends, supporting each other, and eating healthy. It’s even got a recipe for an easy fruit smoothie built right into the story. (How’s that for a nice way to motivate your little ones to crave something good for them?)

The illustrations are fun, colorful and vibrant. The bright colors made me think Dora the Explorer meets Lisa Frank, and there are more than 65 illustrations in this book. Each page has less than 50 words making the book fairly long, but easy to read. The book is also written with a series of rhymes that roll off your tongue and make the story is fun and silly to read, however a few of the rhymes felt forced to me.

A downside for us is that Dmitri, at about 18 months, is just a little bit too young to play nicely with this paperback book, though he loved looking at the bright colors as I read it too him, I think he’ll like it more after he’s grown up just a smidgen.

I would suggest this book for kids age three and up, especially for those who have a difficult time eating their fruits and veggies. This book teaches the importance of eating the good stuff in a fun and engaging way. Not to mention the other good parts about listening to your parents, and doing what’s right.

It was colorful, silly, engaging, a good message with an entertaining story, and the cadence of the rhymes made it extra fun to read.

My kids are snack monsters. They eat breakfast and are asking for snacks no more than an hour later. We do the usual–crackers, apples, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc.–but I know they should be eating more fruits and especially vegetables in place of some of those carby foods. But, as most of you probably have experienced, getting kids to eat fruits and veggies can be tricky. That’s where Copy-Kids comes to the rescue!

Copy-Kids is a DVD that is focused on getting kids to eat fruits and vegetables. According to their website, “this product is a positive approach in the quest to get children eating healthy from the start.”  The idea behind the video is that kids will see other kids eating healthy foods and will want to copy them and eat the foods themselves. The film’s producer witnessed this phenomenon with her daughter and decided to try it on a large scale with other children through a video. I can tell you that it works!

dvd

The DVD features 12 7-minute segments, one for bell pepper, carrots, raspberries, broccoli, bananas, strawberries, tomato, cucumber, orange, avocado, apple, and blueberry. Several different adorable kids are filmed (unscripted) eating these foods and the result is hilarious! There’s one girl in the video who laughs hysterically throughout half the video, and both of my kids liked the “laughing girl.” They also liked trying to figure out what the kids were saying while they were talking and eating (not the best habit to emulate, but hey, if it gets them eating veggies…). At the end of the video, there is a discussion about eating healthy with Pediatrician Jay Gordon and some adorable outtakes with the kids. You can see a small clip of the video here:

Besides being hilarious, the video is very effective. My 4-year-old son wanted some veggies within the first 5 minutes of watching the movie. Both kids ate raw zucchini, which they’d only ever had cooked, but they wanted to eat it crunchy like the kids in the video. My two-year old was asking for avocado during the avocado section, but sadly, we didn’t have any, so she settled for raw broccoli instead (!).  Needless to say, we love the DVD and stand by its claim to get kids to eat healthier 100%!

Let me preface by saying that I’ve wanted one of these FOREVER!!  I’ve been telling my husband we needed one of these for the longest time, and when a reviewing opportunity came up, I emailed him at work immediately to share my excitement!

Here is the EatSmartâ„¢ Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale.  There really isn’t a better choice on the market.  This guy is so versatile and $25?  Shoot, son.  The glossy finish and vibrant red make it slick enough to leave out on the counter all the time, and it goes so well with my red kitchen decor :).

Remember our molten chocolate lava cake addiction, and how we have to make them nearly every Sunday?  Ya, I’m trying to do the whole close-your-eyes-and-guess-which-one-is-heavier game to get an accurate 5.75 oz. of chocolate.  We’ve been melting down wafers, chips, and bars, pretty much anything chocolate in the house, to get our fix, and the guessing was getting ridiculously inaccurate.  Thank you EatSmart, for making this part of baking a whole lot easier and now just funnest game for me!

This device couldn’t be easier to use.  It even COMES with batteries, which is rare and quite a pleasant surprise.  Put in the batteries, turn it on.  My favorite part is the tare feature, where you can set on your container (such as your heavy ceramic bowl), then press tare, and the scale goes down the 0.0 oz.  From there, add your food and you are only measuring your chocolate chips, instead of the chips and the bowl.  100% useful.  You eliminate the weight of the container, plate, bowl, etc.

Now here’s why my husband loves this.  Two words.  Pinewood Derby.  Nothin like taking the hassle out of hauling along the drill, the glue gun, and a jar of coins to the derby and frantically adding or subtracting weight minutes before the race begins.  And then think about mailing stuff!  Holy heck, I hate guessing!  I hate being unsure about postage, worrying about if I under-guess and it will be sent back to me, but I don’t want to overpay, and it really is just another hassle to get to the post office atleast every week.  I’m an eBay-er.  Don’t judge.
If these very strong reasons didn’t talk you into getting an EatSmart kitchen scale, I don’t know what will.  Next to my KitchenAid, this is my favorite kitchen gadget.  That’s saying something.

You can win your OWN!  One lucky duck will win the EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale.

You can also buy it on Amazon for $25, and check out the other kitchen scales available at www.eatsmartproducts.com.
