Oy, the battles have begun.  The bartering with my toddlers to get just one broccoli tree down their throat.  Today I even made a deal–eat three baby carrots for one cookie.  They both used to be such good veggie eaters!  I used to be able to open a can of mixed veggies, dump it in front of them, and they’d chow down.  Now “Rocket” follows me around the house saying “cake, cake, cake” and holding out cake mixes and muffin tins.

I am completely unashamed about my tactics to get more goodness in them.  Mix a little of this in that, dip it in ranch, throw some cheese on it, etc.  Still, it takes a concentrated effort to disguise some of the nutrients I know they need, and I wish it was easier.  I was pretty excited about these little cookies from Bitsy’s Brainfood, especially after looking at their kid-friendly website, which even has some fun printables to color.  These snacks are made from organic ingredients, and all start out with organic wheat flour.

We were sent one of each of the four flavors, and they all smell great!  Bitsy has done a great job in enhancing the more preferred positive scent and masking the veggie smell.  The look and smell like fun cookies!  Naturally, we busted these open immediately and started looking for letters:

Here’s what we think:

Zucchini Gingerbread Carrot: delicious, naturally.  With ingredients like that, you naturally think of carrot cake, zucchini bread, and gingerbread cookies, so you know you can’t go wrong.

Chocolate Orange Beet: practically an adult-person cookie.  I could eat these all night sitting in front of So You Think You Can Dance, and feel great about it.  A little reddish in color, but not too crazy to ward off colored-food-fearing kids.

Sweet Potato Oatmeal Raisin:  See, each one I try is a new favorite.  I think I like these the best so far because they remind me of that delicious cereal, Cracklin Oat Bran.  They seem a little more solid and crunchy, and less crumbly than the others.  Also displayed in the number of fully intact letters in the bag.  Less partials.

Lemon Broccoli:  Ok, I could probably taste the masked veggie more in this than in the other three varieties, but if you’re not thinking “broccoli”, you probably wouldn’t even notice.  My kids sure didn’t.  Look at them. Untitled-1

Here is why these are so fantastic:

  • They are an excellent source of Vitamins A, B12, B6, D3, and Folic Acid
  • They are an excellent source of Omega-3 EPA and DHA–20% of the Daily Value for a combination of EPA and DHA.
  • Good source of Calcium and Iron.  No GMOs.
  • Oven baked with real fruits and veggies!

My ONLY recommendation: maybe more vowels?  Making words gets a little tricky when we’re consanant-heavy, but it was still fun to point out letters together 🙂 IMG_4092

If you have a picker eater, a cookie-fiend, or just want to get more wholesome goodness in your kids, this Bitsy’s Brainfood is a great choice!  You can purchase them on Amazon as well as diapers.com, Abe’s Market, and freshdirect.
