Fluffy Garden Boutique {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

One of my favorite things about being a military spouse is moving to new locations and meeting new people — moving away from those new friends never feels like good-bye since we have Facebook and other ways to keep in touch, but it also never feels like good-bye because the chances of meeting up again in the military are just too good!  Kierston and I met when we were living in the middle of the California desert; our husbands worked together and we have boys who are just months apart in age, so it was a quick match for our entire family.  We moved to North Carolina about three years ago, and we were ecstatic when Kierston’s family moved to North Carolina just about three months ago!Cover Photo

Almost immediately after making a cross-country trip and getting settled in their new location, Kierston opened up her Facebook shop Fluffy Garden Boutique, where she makes custom orders of just about anything that can be crocheted, sewn, or painted!  She is completely invested in her shop and in her products, and her passion is evident on her Facebook updates that usually include some sort of amazing special or giveaway for her fans.

Here are a couple of my favorites from her shop:

Around the House items include this Multipurpose Wash Cloth (shown above), Washable Swiffer Cover, or a cute Tooth Fairy Pillow!

Fluffy Garden Boutique also features great sets for photography props or photo shoots, such as this Mermaid Set with Shell Top and Starfish Headband

The Beanies, Hats, and Diaper Covers also include lots of fun seasonal products, such as this Football Beanie

Photo: OSU inspired headband (can be customized to any team) sizes NB, 0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, 12m, toddler, child or adult $5 free shipping

Or hard-core football fans will love to check out the College and NFL Themes Crochet album with items such as this OSU-Inspired Headband (can be customized for any team, any size infant to adults), totes, or throws.

Since Kierston is a military spouse herself, she knows the difficulty that goes with numerous deployments, long hours/days/weeks, and sacrifice to serve our country.  Fluffy Garden Boutique features a Military Heroes Wall of Fame open to any branch of service — just e-mail your picture and she’ll add it to this album!

And, just in time for the fall season, Fluffy Garden Boutique is offering a $30 Gift Certificate to use in the shop by November 1!  Check out Fluffy Garden Boutique on Facebook, then come back here to enter to win!

Buy Costumes {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

These kids are CRAZY now that the weather is nice!  We’re getting out as many wiggles as we can at the parks, but when a rainy day rolls around, they are bouncing off the walls and getting into things that never interested them before.  When desperate times call for creative measures, dress-up clothes are the ticket!

Buy Costumes let us review a Superman costume, and the time it takes to get “Rocket” in and out repeatedly is so worth seeing him act like a superhero around the house.  Superhero costumes are the hot items lately, have you noticed?  Everyone’s having superhero birthday parties.  Could it be due to a few key superhero movies that came out this summer?

This is the Superman Man of Steel Deluxe Toddler /Child Costume.  This is an officially licensed Superman costume, in a toddler size 2-4.  I guessed it would fit my beefy 2-year-old just fine, but I was quite impressed with just HOW well it fit.  It has just the right amount of stretch to not be skin-tight or suffocating, but it is also not too gaping and flowy around the wrists or ankles, so it looks like a really good fit.  It also has a tie in the back for an adjustable fit around the waist.

Its just too funny seeing my toddler with defined abs and mega muscles!  I can’t get enough of these pictures.  The chest portion of this costume is not a hard and stiff plastic sheet, but rather a thick foam, which allows for plenty of uninhibited movement and superhero action.  Because of all the padding and chest shaping, I bet you could wear several layers underneath for trick-or-treating layering and the costume would more or less look the same.  The colors are so vibrant!

The only minor flaw is this speckle of white on the chest, where the ink was misprinted.  It looks like such a small error that is specific to this suit, and probably not a problem on any other of this same costume.  The elastic footies are great for keeping the faux boots in place over any type of shoes, or just socks for around the house play.IMG_4604

“Superboy!  Superboy!”, is what I hear all around the house.  Love it.  The real ticket on this costume is the cape, and my boy actually prefers to just wear the cape around the house.  Because of this, I wish that the red cape (which is removable), had a better velcro arrangement.  Currently it has two pokey sides to adhere to the fuzzy side on the inside of the suit at the neck, and I wish the cape had one pokey and one soft so that it had a better connection when worn alone.

Overall, I am impressed with the quality, and actually expected something less durable, so I was pleasantly surprised.  How fun to have a cool dress-up costume around the house to play in!  Check out all the other fun superhero costumes that BuyCostumes.com sells!  There are some fun ones for little boys!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

October, I miss you.

Here’s a last look at October.  Glorious October.

I really do kind of miss October.  There’s just something about that month that gets me every time.  Maybe… Because of all the great fall family activities.  Or maybe…  Because of all the pumpkins, ghosts, and goblins.  The fall decor?  I certainly love that part of it!  Sure fall carries into November, but is it the same?  I mean it’s November.  😉

Here’s looking to the month that’s all about Thanksgiving and all that I am truly thankful for.  It’s another holiday month to spend with my family.  A time to reflect on my many, many blessings.  November, I welcome you and I’m grateful for you.

Spidey and the Peacock

Hello dandy friends!  Consider yourself very, very lucky.  I’ve stepped away from the candy bowl long enough to give you an account of our Halloween festivities.  😉

This year Banjo was really into the idea of begging for candy around the neighborhood.  We humored his interest with the typical parental candy fee for taking him.  “One for you.  Two for me.”  🙂

Of course he went as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

And what Spidey is complete without his loyal sidekick…

None other than the Pretty Peacock.

They were quite the hit of the block.

Notice the missing peacock headpiece?  It didn’t survive the attempt to be eaten by Ruby.  *sigh*  Oh, well.  I think she’s cute enough to pull off the costume without the hair feathers.  🙂

Goodbye October.  Hello November!

Costume Express {Review}

We had our very first trick or treater on Thursday.  My little niece.  A little early, but she likes to be prompt.  You know to make sure she doesn’t miss a single house.  She arrived wearing the most adorable Little Red Riding Hood costume that I ever did see!

Isn’t she just the cutest???

Costume Express sent the costume over to my house and I knew that it was just perfect for this little reviewer.  She’s darling, so everyone is going to want to bail on their previous costume idea and go with this one.  Am I right?  It’s super cute, super great quality, and super unique design.  You can’t beat that!  Well, now…  What day is it already???  You better hurry, because the 31st is almost here!  Halloween is in T-3 days!  Have you got your Little Red Riding Hood costume yet???  There’s still time to get your costume if you order right now through Costume Express!  You have until October 29th at 2:59pm CDT to be exact.

At Costume Express all the members of your family can get in on the action with the other characters:

Or isn’t this a cute family theme?

All can be found at Costume Express, so you better get ordering!  🙂

Pumpkin Design Lady

My mom is an amazing woman. I love her to bits! She’s a bank manager and works hard at everything she does. Mom is also quite crafty and creative. I just might have to have her guest on the blog sometime. 😉 Anyway, this year all the bank branches are participating in a fun contest for Halloween. Each branch had their employees decorate pumpkins. They decided to utilize social media (Facebook to be exact) to spread the word about the amazing creations. Because we all know that social media is where it’s at. 😉 The winning employees get lunch provided to them by the bank. I really want my mom and her girls to win. They deserve it. And they made some pretty dandy pumpkins! Super cute:

Don’t you think?

Vote for them, will you? All you have to do is click on the links below (the names of the two pumpkins) and then like those photos on Facebook. It’s that easy. I’ll be sure to let you know in a follow up posting who won. Thanks friends and have a dandy weekend!

Dinner and a Murder {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery dinner?!  The perfect activity for a cold winter weekend with friends!  My family grew up on games of lying and role playing, like “Mafia”, and my brother actually directs the annual murder mystery event at BYU every year!  So ya, we’re murder-game enthusiasts :).

My husband and I were giddy with excitement about our murder mystery kit from Dinner and a Murder!  I pretty much squealed when I saw the box in our mail.  We got right to work inviting friends to the event.  A neat feature with Dinner and a Murder games is the ability to manage your game online.  I was able to email my guests their invitation, collect their RSVPs, and also email them their character backgrounds.  This was so helpful to keep organized, and it allowed everyone to prepare ahead of time.

This party kit was quite all-inclusive!  It contained character booklets, which gave everyone background information, instructions on how to participate in a murder mystery (which was helpful for a few of us who have never done a murder mystery before), and a guest list so that we could keep everyone else straight.

There was also a confidential booklet for each of us, full of more secrets to spill.  Weapon cards, a host guide, guest list worksheet, evidence presentation, full size evidence, whodunit cards, game money, name tags, solution, tribute, and even certificates for “Best Performer”, “Best Costume”, “Super Sleuth”, and “Wealthiest Player”.

At first I was a little overwhelmed with all the papers and things to read, assemble, and organize, but I’m glad there was so much material to make it a good story—enough to keep guests entertained with things to do and discover for a full 2-3 hours.  Nothing is worse than pinning the murderer 15 minutes into the game!

The night went so well!  We had some excellent actors in attendance, so there was plenty of entertaining moments, including a surprise murder!  What a night!

Dinner and a Murder carries 8 different murder mystery kits.  We tried “A Killer Reunion“, and I so appreciated that it was a clean version, without affairs or the possibility of really offending a guest.  I’d say it would be appropriate for church groups, teenagers, and even family reunions.  Can’t you just imagine hosting your own murder mystery game?

One winner will receive a $39 eGift Certificate for one Dinner and a Murder game!  Happy Halloween!!

A Room With A View

Here I sit on the floor in our family room while the kiddos play nearby.

I heart the colors of fall!

Cheesecloth Ghosts

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

When Audi was a young’un in Sugar House, Utah he enjoyed making cheesecloth ghosts with his family.  I had never heard of such a thing.  So over the weekend we had a grand time reliving Audi’s childhood and creating some Halloween decor that our house has been lacking.  These ghosts are really fun and easy to make.  Plus, we had practically all the necessities to make them (except for the cheesecloth) right here in the house!  Meaning these guys are super friendly on the decorating budget!  Casper was a friendly ghost, right?

Here’s what we did in pictures:

You can seriously use anything to create your ghost form.  Balloons, bottles, plastic forks for the arms, etc.  We used aluminum foil for the head and attached with duct tape.  Doesn’t duct tape have just so many uses???  Then drape your form with the cheesecloth.  And then… As you can see we used spray Mod Podge, because that’s what I had in my craft room.  Spray starch or hair spray would also work just fine.   Just spray all over and let dry.  Then repeat once the first application is dry.  After your ghost is completely dry you can carefully remove the form and you are left with a ghostly apparition that stands up all on his own!

Knit Pumpkin

Remember my knit pumpkin tutorial from a few years back?  Wow.  Where does the time go?  I cannot believe it has been 2 years since I made that little pumpkin!  He only makes his presence known around here during the fall season, but he is still alive and well.  And looking ever so fine gracing our stairs with the other fall fixtures I might add.

Although our staircase is updated from that old picture, so I think that’s even more dandy!

Maybe it’s time I made another pumpkin…
