Happy Day after Christmas! Did you get everything you wanted? I hope you all had a lovely day with your families and that you are still enjoying some time together. Here’s something you may not have asked for but that should be on your list for next year (or your next birthday, anniversary, any-excuse-for-a-gift day): TRUHAIR‘s Raise the Roots!

logo

TRUHAIR by Chelsea Scott is a line of salon-quality hair products created by Chelsea Scott, who had been in the industry for more than 20 years. While working in and owning salons and using the most popular hair brands, she felt she still couldn’t find anything that could recreate salon-perfect hair at home, so she set out to create her own line. Her products include hair tools, like teasing combs, color brushes and style shapers, and products like shampoo, conditioner, frizz-fighting spray and finishing spray.

Raise the Roots Thickening Fiber Cream is a product that is designed to boost your hair’s volume and make it easier to style. Have you ever tried to do anything fun with your hair right after washing it, like curls or a fancy up-do? If you have, you probably know how just-washed hair can be limp and slippery, not amenable to a hair style at all. They say dirty hair is the best to work with, and after many failed attempts at up-dos after a shower, I can attest to that! But gratefully, Raise The Roots fixes that problem! Add this to your arsenal of of beauty products!

bottle

Raise the Roots is a micro-mesh styler that pulls apart in your hands and strengthens and thickens your hair strands with fibers. It melts away once you put it in your hair so it doesn’t weigh your hair down or make it look greasy or feel sticky.

cream

The directions on the bottle say it can be used on damp hair to give volume to blow-dried hair or on already dry hair to give it body and thickness. I didn’t feel that it gave my hair a ton of volume by just blow-drying it into my damp hair. But I did feel that it helped me to style my hair when it was dry but clean after a wash. Check out this before and after–styling my just-washed hair without Raise the Roots, and styling my hair WITH Raise the Roots! compare

Raise the Roots can be purchased at SoftSurroundings.com for $21.95 for a 3.3 oz bottle. The price seems a bit steep, but since I only use about a dime-sized amount each time, I figure that bottle will probably last me at least 6 months, which isn’t so bad.  Follow TRUHAIR on Facebook and be on the lookout for other reviews, news and giveaways. And speaking of giveaways, enter below to win a bottle of Raise The Roots for yourself!

There are 100 reasons why I love love love summertime, even in a hot, humid environment and an old apartment with no central air.  I’ll take the heat over the cold any day or time, fully accepting the not-so-fabulous things that come with it, such as all the extra glowing sweating going on.  I must change my clothes 3x/day because I just can’t comfortably sit in clothes I’ve been sweating in at the park.  Same goes with my hair.  A hot day in the sun, and I just can’t be comfortable without an immediate rinse when I get home.  If you have kids, you know that this is not always an option.  When we walk in from a day at the beach or the park, everyone is cranky and needs water, snacks, new diapers, shoes removed, naps, etc. etc. etc. and Mama’s needs are pushed way down the list.  Since a bottle on Batiste’s Dry Shampoo arrived, I’ve had it sitting out and accessible, and I might be embarrassed to admit just how many times I’ve used it in the past week alone!

I LOVE this stuff!  Its like an instant-hair-refresher and that immediate clean feeling is one I can’t live without!  I tried out the “Blush” scent–floral and flirty sums it up well.  Its gloriously spring-like and very feminine.

Have you ever tried a dry shampoo?  This kind from Batiste is a spray, much like a hair spray bottle, which emits a clean mist out of a high-pressurized nozzle.  You just shake the bottle and spray into your roots, about 30cm away from your scalp, then massage through with your fingertips, brush, and style!  I love the extra body it creates and how the greasy roots disappear!  Does this LOOK like hair that hasn’t been washed in several days of outdoor exertion?  It feels just as light and clean as after a wash and blowdry.

IMG_5222

This has been REALLY fabulous lately while we’ve been spending nearly every day at the park.  After a few hot hours of play, and the exhausting stroller ride uphill back home, I come home with sweaty hair, and this has been my saving grace.  A quick spray down gives my hair a total makeover and it smells as fresh as can be!

batiste-new-packaging I’d love to try their colored dry shampoos too!  A little color boost in the roots might be fun!  Try it out–you may be just as much a believer as I am!

Some days (mostly on Sunday mornings when we’re running around frantic, trying to get the four of us presentable for 9am church) I truly envy the male species and the 2-5 minutes it takes them to do their hair.  Other days I think they really miss out on the opportunity to create a new look with an assortment of sweet smelling products and fancy tools.  Getting ready in the morning is sometimes like an art class, and I love being able to close the door, sit on a cute stool, and pretty up!

Beauty-Stop-Logo

Beauty Stop Online is a treasure trove of makeup, styling tools, nailpolish, hair care, you name it.  Anything you could want when it comes to dolling up, they’ve got it.  Beauty Stop Online gave me the opportunity to review their Hot Tools Nano-Ceramic Tapered Curling Iron Medium 1″, sold for $38.99.  I love this little weapon!

IMG_4656 copy

Take note of the cone-shaped wand, and how it is tapered.  This creates larger curls at the top, and tighter curls at the bottom of the strand.  It can heat up to 450 degrees, and a new Pulse Technology allows the iron to heat up quickly and retain its heat with an “instant heat recovery” feature.  The tip is extra long, so you could really wrap a lot of hair in one twirl.  The temperature dial is easy to turn, but I think it can be budged higher or lower if you’re not careful.

IMG_4661 copy

This tool comes with a heat-resistant glove, which is really a godsend for my frequently burned fingers!  I always seem to touch the barrel even if I’m consciously trying to avoid it, and wearing this glove allows me to style quicker and without feeling so paranoid about placing my fingers in the wrong place!

IMG_4679 copy

What a useful glove!  I hate getting burned!  I think this also saves time I usually spend making sure the next spot I place my fingers isn’t going to fry me.  I just grab the section of hair and go.  This iron is the Medium size, and it tapers from 1″ to 1/2″, but Hot Tools also makes a Small and Large iron, ranging from 3/8″ to 1 1/4″.

Untitled-1

The tapered barrel really creates some fun crazy curls!  They are diverse and natural-looking curls, which are perfect for an updo!  My hair is naturally straight, but used on curly hair, this would control the curls and tame the frizz.

Thanks Beauty Stop Online!  Go check out their abundance of makeup, styling tools, nailpolish, and hair care!

I have a big wad of tethered styling tools that haven’t been touched in YEARS!  Look at this.  Is that a crimper???

IMG_3324 copy

I haven’t been using them because they are just not effective.  After I post this review, I am donating these to my little sister, though it would kind of be like saying, “here, you throw these away for me”.

I’ve learned the hard way that not all styling tools are created equal, and when it comes to these products, price totally makes a difference.  There was once a time that I thought my $10 curling iron, or even my $20 flat iron, was producing the same results as those around me using much higher quality tools.  Clearly, looking back at pictures, my hair was not at all looking at all like I envisioned.

flat-iron-experts1

I was head over heels when Flat Iron Experts sent me a box of dreamy products to test and review!  I now own a weapon that trumps any styling tool I’ve ever owned.

IMG_3303 copy

Behold, the top-notch pristine appearance of the Cortex Solo 450 Titanium Flat Iron!  This guy is sold for $259.99, but on sale at Flat Iron Experts for $129.99.

IMG_3301 copy

At first glance, I worried about the temperature dial being rather small and in an inconspicuous place, and I thought I would miss having it large and on the outside, where it is placed on my old flat iron.  After trying it out, however, I realized just how ideal this placement is–out of the way where I can’t press buttons up or down or off every time I put it down and pick it up again.  When I have hair in one hand, bobby pins in my mouth, eyes on the mirror, and I’m reaching for my straight iron, I don’t want to be messing with the buttons, and this dial turns easily, but stays where you want it.  A swivel cord is a must, and this one is great–full rotating, doesn’t stick, and won’t become warped or perma-crimped from wrapped storage.  These are titanium plates, baby.  They emit negative ions to preserve moisture and cause less damage, all while providing an even amount of heat throughout the hair shaft, but they don’t make the iron heavy, as this weighs only a pound.

IMG_3299 copy

This thing heats up as fast as lightning!  I could barely moisturize my face before it had heated to my desired temperature.  And 450 degrees?!  Now that is impressive!  That is the hottest in the market!  Though the box clearly states that straightening your hair at that temperature could burn your hair, and is probably too intense for home use, but its cool to know how powerful it is.  I didn’t notice the importance of the textured oval on the tip until I started using the iron, and I found that this indentation makes a perfect place for your fingers to rest with a sure grip while you twist or glide hair.  It also helps when you’re blindly trying to feel where not to touch so as not to burn your fingers.
IMG_3304 copy
I was also sent two styling products–some Macadamia Natural Oil Nourishing Leave-In Cream, and KQC Thermal Shine Spray.   I included a picture (below) so you can see the appearance of the cream on the left, and the clear spray on the right.  The Leave-in Cream smells like a salon!  Macadamia oil is so comparable to our body’s natural oils, that it absorbs effortlessly to create a soft, shiny appearance while taming flyaways and frizz.  It has a creamy consistency and looks a little like crisco when it comes out, but a little softer, like a cream cheese frosting.  Just like it claims, the cream glides on without any effort, melting into my hair and leaving it ready-to-style without weighing it down.  It doesn’t make my hair feel heavy with product, but rather nourished and protected.  This 10 fl. oz. bottle is going to last forever!  Its huge!
IMG_3355 copy
I also am a huge fan of this KQC Thermal Shine Spray!  This product has Flat Iron Expert’s seal of approval for “best heat protector”.  I am definitely someone that babies her hair.  I am always afraid of harsh chemicals and procedures and products that are going to wear out what fine, little hair I have left, so a serious heat protector is a must.  I love this is a pressurized spray so you don’t have to get it on your hands or worry about too much or too little.  Just spray it on like hairspray and rest easy.
befaft
These products really give me the look I desire.  No ‘wispies’, a beautiful healthy shine, heat protection, and a style that will last all day.  The flat iron itself is a dream.  My hair really just glides between the plates, without getting stuck and snagging like my old iron.  I’m getting used to my hair feeling quite slippery between the titanium plates.  I really makes twirling and curling as easy as Sunday morning.  My hair-doing routine is so FAST, effective and long-lasting with these products, and that’s exactly what a mom with kids needs in the morning.
IMG_3332 copy

As if this treasure trove of goodies wasn’t enough, Flat Iron Experts also sent me an Flat Iron Experts Iron Holder and I can’t believe I ever lived without one.  As you can see, my “vanity” is really a second hand skinny desk, and space is really limited.  In the past, I’ve been trying to balance my iron on the corner and hope I don’t bump anything for fear it knocks over everything on my desk and falls into my lap.  The grippies on the bottom of the iron holder are great, but I probably needed to seal it a little better with more pressure, as the front suction cups weren’t adhering very well.  This is designed quite well to hold the flat iron closed while resting, so it stores up heat while you’re not using it.  This holder makes it easy to pull the flat iron in and out, while being removable, slick, and sturdy.

Bottom line: I am completely impressed by these products, and if you’re in the market for a flat iron, do consider the Cortex Solo 450 Titanium Flat Iron, and try it in zebra print!  Check out the impressive selection of flat irons and hair styling products from Flat Iron Experts, and go buy your hair a treat!
