Little Tikes Garden Chairs {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Can you tell that we like to read?

388117_10151412362010894_2144559091_n

Yes, we like to read lots.

All winter long and into the early spring we were shut ins around here.  So all of our reading took place indoors.  We didn’t even venture out to the library.  No siree.  Why is that?  First, it was super cold outside.  Second, it was super cold outside.  Third, it was super cold outside.  Okay you get the idea.  It was super cold outside.  Then… Don’t even get me started on the amount of snow that was dumped on us.  Loads and loads.  All winter long.  I thought that it would never end.  We even got a snow storm when I was postpartum in the hospital with Cache.  Oops. I think I must have left that out of Cache’s birth story.   Yes, I know that I forgot to put that part in.  Basically a HUGE snow storm decided to come rolling in the day after he was born and we weren’t sure if we were ever going to get to leave the hospital.  For some reason when it snows in St. Louis the ENTIRE city shuts down.  Does that happen in other cities?  Anyway, back to our love of books… Now that the weather is simply glorious outside (not too hot and not too humid yet) we can take our reading outdoors.

My friends over at Little Tikes sent Banjo and Ruby these adorable garden chairs.

The chairs are the perfect size for their little tushies and are now their favorite reading spots in the backyard.

We finished our patio late in the season last year, so we didn’t really get to enjoy it before it started to snow.

littletikes8

But this year we were ready for the spring and summer!  In fact we have been dining al fresco for quite a while now.

littletikes6Basically as soon as it stopped snowing.

That’s why when my friends over at Little Tikes  (Yes, I said LITTLE TIKES *squeal*) offered to send us a picnic table for our kiddos I jumped at the chance.  And of course you know what that means…  If I get one then one of YOU gets one, too!  *SQUEAL* from you, right?!

The Easy Storeâ„¢ Picnic Table with Umbrella is amazing.  Seriously dandy.  As soon as it came Banjo had to open the box immediately.  He even starting dragging the pieces from the front entry to the back patio.  Fortunately for me it require no tools to put together.  I’m all about the ease of things like that.  The entire table just snaps together and the instructions were super easy to follow.

Here we are at snack time:

littletikes2

And then dinner time with cousin H:littletikes

My kids cannot get enough of their new table!

What’s more???  It stores aways really dandily.

My girl, Ruby loves her some My Little Pony.  When she talks about them it’s, “My Pony” this and “My Pony” that.  She ALWAYS leaves out the mention of “Little”.  The girl knows what she wants and she knows what’s hers.    I must admit that I cried real tears of nostalgia when I realized that the My Little Pony of today is so very different that the My Little Pony of my past.  I’m talking the My Little Pony of the 80’s.  What happened to those ponies???  It’s a good thing that my girl is in love with these ponies, because it takes away the pains of a childhood lost.  I’ll admit that the look is growing on me…  Probably because Ruby thinks they are sooooo very dandy!

How can I not begin to feel this way when they make her so happy?

fashems

She received an entire fleet of Fash’Ems for this review and she was definitely not disappointed.

IMG_9186

What are Fash’Ems, you ask?  Well, for starters they are squishy.  They aren’t going to break or get scratched up the way a lot of other toys do.  And… They stretch!

photo 3

The ponies come in these adorable little capsules in hot pink.  We had an absolute fun time playing hide and seek with them in the backyard!

In addition to My Little Pony there are these characters:

Doesn’t Hello Kitty look adorable?

Some of the sets even come with crowns and other accessories to dress the characters!

Fun times for my little Ruby!

You might say we have a fair amount of board games. You might even say we’ve played a lot of board games. We like to have fun, that’s what we say! Whether we’re playing at home just the two of us or getting together with friends for a game night, My Man J and I are always keeping an eye out for a new game to add into the mix. At first when PlaSmart sent me Squashed I thought it would be all too easy and there wouldn’t be any thrill or thought to it. How wrong I was! Let me give you a run down of this game and see what you think of it. PlaSmartLogo-1024x427 Their mission states “(PlaSmart Inc.) seeks out interesting, one-of-a-kind toys that meet its ‘smart and simple’ philosophy and avoids toys that are difficult to understand or operate.” I would have to say that this game totally lives up to that! The content is basic and the instructions are simple. IMG_4463 Squashed is for ages 6 and up. The ‘board’ of this game is actually a large, grey cube with holes in it. One side opens so you can store all of the other pieces inside of it. Also included are a felt playing mat to rest the cube on, instructions, a 6 sided die, and 16 pegs in 4 colors. You can play with 2,3 or 4 players. I’m so glad you can play with 2, finding games for 2 or more players can be difficult. IMG_4469 The whole object of the game is to be the last pawn standing. You roll the dice to determine the amount of moves you get to make. With each turn you take you can squash pawns into the cube or make your way to the king. IMG_4471 If you make it to the king you get to flip the cube and squash all of the pawns on one side into the cube! Some times you have to sacrifice your own pawns to win! There was more than one point in the game that I was sure I had My Man J bested, then the cube would flip and I’d be in a bad way. IMG_4478 Pros:

  • There is a lot of replay value on this game. We only played with 2 but I’m sure when adding more players it would get even more intense!
  • This game is really simple to get the hang of. I think younger children could definitely learn to play quickly. It also gives you the opportunity to add some strategy, so I think it’s great for adults as well.
  • One round of this game can be quick. With just two of us playing it only took us about 10 minutes to complete one round using two colors a piece (a recommended way to play with 2 players).

Cons:

  • The cube was a little hard to open at first, but now that we’ve opened it over and over it’s getting easier to manage.
  • One round of this game can be quick. This can also be a con if you’re looking for a more competitive game and want to spend a half an hour or more playing one round.

Overall I like this game. It’s different and gives you the opportunity to be strategic or you can play relaxed. You can play it with your young children or take it to your next game night. It’s definitely worth having in a game collection.

The winner of this giveaway will receive one Squashed game to add to their game collection!

*This giveaway is open to entries in the US only.

legoland

My Banjo is now 6-years-old.  It’s weird to think that my first born is that old.  He’s like a little man who is almost finished with kindergarten.  So very strange for me!  In past years we have always had a birthday party for him.  I was trying to be that mom who threw those big, fabulous parties with lots of friends invited.  Yes, that mom.  I even invited the siblings of the friends, because I didn’t want anyone to feel left out.  Is that a little crazy?  Maybe a little excessive?  (Now there’s nothing really wrong with being that mom.  There are plenty of moms who can pull it off and more power to them.  I’m just not good at being that mom.  For sanity sake I had to take a step back, evaluate what’s truly important, and just say no.)

This year?  No more.  We have three littles now.  All will have a birthday.  All will eventually want to have a party.  All cannot have a party in the same year.  That would be maddening.  I can’t plan for such things.  I can’t decorate for such things.  I can’t organize for such things.  I can’t do such things.  It’s just not going to happen times three every year.  Nope.  Not going to do it.  So I’m thinking that each child has a “friend party” every other year.  Maybe every 3rd year.  Just. Not. Every. Year.

That’s why this year we decided to take Banjo (and the other two littles) out of town for a surprise birthday weekend extravaganza.  Banjo expected to have a party.  We told him we had a special adventure planned instead of a party.  It was a weekend all about him, things he likes, and together as a family.  The best part of celebrating in this way?  Family time!

We went to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Kansas City!  LEGOLAND agreed on us coming for a visit, my doing a review on the blog, and giveaway away FOUR tickets.  You will find that giveaway below.  First, here are just a few of our favorite highlights from the place Banjo now thinks is the bestest birthday celebration ever.  At the LEGOLAND in Kansas City you can…

I feel like the perfect thing to keep a kid busy while using their imagination, is any type of craft. Drawing, painting, even letting them play by themselves with some legos. It let’s their imagination run wild and give them no limits. We all know kids test the limits 😉 I remember my mom would let me go to toys r’ us and pick out a toy and I would always pick out the make it yourself jewelry or hair ties or bedazzle your shirts (yes, I was a mega girly-girl) I really think that’s where I got my creativity from and love designing and doing different things now.

loomyawards

A few months ago my little cousins came up to me showing me these really awesome rubber band bracelets that they made. They each probably had 3 to 4 different types of rubber band bracelets. They then tried to sell me a few of them, haha, they told me they were going to start selling them to their friends in any design they wanted. Pretty awesome!

Remember when I told you about the Loomy Awards? Well they decided to give away a Loom Boom to a Dandy Giveaway fan!

loomboom

The Loom Boom is a great place to store all those rubber band bracelets your kids are creating. I bet you are finding them every where and are just about ready to toss any of them in the trash that you step on or find randomly in a cabinet!

loomboom2

Here is what the creators have to say about The Loom Boom

“As moms (Katy & Lauren – co-founders), we loved the focus and creativity it provided our kids. Every new stitch our children learned produced more patterns, more colors and more creations. However, these bracelets were winding up everywhere, from our couch cushions to our dog’s mouth. It was a problem that needed solving! We stumbled upon a solution when a five-year-old housed his ever-growing collection of bracelets on a paper towel roll! What began with a simple concept has now developed into a first-of-its kind product intended to organize, display, transport and share. Sometimes children see things so clearly, and we jumped on his simple yet genius idea.”

The Loom Boom comes in fun different colors and each can hold up to 40 bracelets! The tube does come apart at the base so it is easy to grab different bracelets. The base also has an extra store part for bands, charms, clips and other items.

loomboom3

The Loom Boom features bright-colored tubes that can hold up to 40 bracelets. The tube is detachable from the base so loomers can transport and share, as well as have easy access to bracelets at the bottom. The base also contains extra storage for loom bands, charms, clips, and other spare parts.

They have thought of everything for The Loom Boom! So definitely check them out and enter below to win one for your kids and your sake! 😉

Tangled Tantrum {GIVEAWAY} – Closed

Today we are chatting a little bit about my favorite subject: HAIR! I am a hairstylist and am around hair for more then 40 hours a week. I love it all, coloring, cutting, the tools, and products. The key to having good hair is : Good tools and Great product. Product is key to keeping a style where you want it. Sometimes the product we put in our own hair may not work for kids hair. I’ve noticed that big time when I am working on my clients kids. That moose or gel just isn’t working in my 6 year old client.

tantrum3

I have been following Tangled Tantrum for a while now and am so excited to finally test out their products! Tangled Tantrum is a line fully dedicated to kids hair. Trust me, it’s for kids only, my husband thought I bought him so new product and it just wasn’t cutting it for all of his thick long hair. Kids hair is just so much more fragile then adults and they definitely don’t have as much, which means they don’t need as much product.

tantrum

Tangled Tantrum is paraben and alcohol free, which makes is safe and healthy for kids. This is awesome for those independent kids who want to feel grown up like mom and dad and do their own hair. The product I was able to sample was the ‘Separation Anxiety- Styling Paste’ and it’s so easy to use. I had a few of my own kid clients grab it themselves and style their hair and they loved it. And the best part, the mess was non-existent. They just wiped their hands on a towel and out the door they went. Win Win in my book!

tantrum2

Tangled Tantrum offers a few different products. They have the ‘Chaos Control Smoothing Serum’ , ‘Detangling & Conditioning Spray’ (every child needs this!), ‘The Wet Brush’ and the ‘Killer Swell Hair Gel’ . I love all these fun names they give the products. That’s the point of the product right? To make a kid thing it’s fun to do their hair, haha.

tantrum5

I am also huge on my customer service. Tangled Tantrum emailed me right away and my shipment was at my door no later then 3-4 days after I placed my order. They left me a sweet note and some fun wristbands in the picture above. Their site is easy to navigate and gives quick explanations for each product. She makes the site look so fun that your kid can join you while you pick out your products. What I got out of  Tangled Tantrum is fun, safe, and easy to use.

tantrum4

I really loved how the product held up in my little clients hair. It wasn’t sticky, it wasn’t heavy and best of all it smelt great! One of my little clients just sat there the whole time smelling the container. It didn’t bother me at all because it contains no Parabens or Alcohol. Smell away! I really like how Tangled Tantrum made a line specifically to be kid friendly. She really tried hard to point everything to the kids. The packaging, the names of the product and the smells.

tantrum6

Today one lucky winner will get to have a container of there ‘Separation Anxiety- Styling Paste’ and 3 wristbands with Tangled Tantrum logo. I like more of a softer look, that’s why I went for the Paste rather then the gel. It still gives it that good hold but gives it that piecy look while holding back those fly aways and frizzy-ness.  You and your kiddy will love it! They are also offering free shipping on orders over $50, use code: ship4free

tantrum7.

*This giveaway is open to US entries only
*The winner of this giveaway will be drawn no later than the evening of Mar 9th and will be emailed.  If the winner does not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be drawn.

Another adventure that our family went on while in the Smoky Mountains was to a truly unique theme park… Dollywood!  As you walk through the gates you are transported to the days of Country Fairs and the laid back life in the Smokies.  We just happened to be there on the opening day of the National Southern Gospel & Harvest Celebration.  It was the perfect day to be there!  Dolly Parton was somewhere in the park, but unfortunately we didn’t cross paths.  However, we got to see singer Louise Mandrell!  She was there to receive the James D. Vaughan Impact Award from the Southern Gospel Music Association.  The Association actually has a Hall of Fame and Museum at Dollywood.  In fact before we realized the significance of the day we were surprised that a red carpet greeted us at the entrance.  For a second there I thought the folks at Dollywood were pulling out all the stops to make sure our family (with their “mommy blogger” tickets) had an amazing day.  😉

We did have an amazing day, though!  There’s so much to do at Dollywood.  From the family friendly atmosphere… To the country stores…  To the shows…

Remember that little ‘ole government shut down that took place… Oh, back in October?  Well, we were actually on vacation when that whole thing went down.  Yep.  On Day #2 of our vacation to be exact.  Our vacation to…  Wait for it… The Smoky Mountains NATIONAL Park.  Day #1 we went into the park just fine.  Day #2 we were greeted by this:

1375827_10151678887215894_1599772439_n

Talk about throwing a wrench in someone’s plans.

Fortunately for us there are tons of other fun things to do in the Smoky Mountains area besides the park!  Prior to making the trip to Tennessee we were invited to attend the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show.  So even if the park had been open we were still going to attend the show.  Dinner.  Great show.  How can you pass that up?  Well, it ended up being such an amazing show!  Lots of laughs and delicious food to help us get over not being able to go back into the park.  🙂   Plus, it’s fun for the entire family!

Even the grounds of the theater are fun:

Our Banjo being a mummy.

Now back to the show and the food…

photo-72

photo-73

Everything is served family style and it’s what you would expect out of a real Southern feast:

  • Feudin’ Fried Chick’n
  • Open Pit Pulled -to-Pieces Pork Barbeque
  • Southern Style Creamy Soup
  • Smashed Mashed Taters
  • Buttery Corn on the Cob
  • Keep It Comin’ Cornbread
  • No Tellin’ What’s In It Coleslaw
  • Granny’s Famous Specialty Dessert

photo-77

We couldn’t even eat it all!  You are given plenty of time to eat before the show starts.  That way you can really focus on the entertainment.

The story of the Hatfields and McCoys is told in a way that I had never heard before.  So that kept it interesting!  In terms of entertainment there’s music, dancing, “fighting”, romance, and a great story line.  It all comes together for a feuding good time!

photo-79 photo-78

Will we go back to this Pigeon Forge, Tennessee show next time we are in the Smoky Mountains?  Most definitely!  The kids loved it and it was definitely one of the best shows around.  Stay tuned for my thoughts on another great show…  The Smoky Mountain Opry!  🙂
