I remember trying (almost literally) every single bottle system on the planet when my first son was born.  He was in the NICU for about a week after he was born, and nursing wasn’t working so well for us — but, frankly, bottle-feeding wasn’t working either!  He had a difficult time eating without getting lots of air bubbles in him, and we later discovered that he had acid reflux (which was quickly solved after his pediatrician gave us a prescription — oh, happy day!).  As we went through each of these bottle systems, though, we discovered two that we liked the best and stuck strictly to those two.  I stuck to those two bottle systems again when my second son was born, and they worked like a charm.

This third time around, though, I’ve been surprised to find that those bottle systems have changed and have all sorts of new fancy terms and styles!  Where are the original ones that I know and love??  As I started doing my research to explore my options, one new-to-me bottle system that kept popping up in my research was from the Tommee Tippee brand.  I don’t even remember hearing about this brand with either of my other two babies, so I was excited to receive Tommee Tippee brand items to try out at home this time around.

Closer to Nature Added Comfort Feeding Bottles — Colic in infants may be caused by a combination of influences including ingesting air during feeding. The new Added Comfort range from closer to nature is specially designed to help reduce air bubbles in the milk and to encourage a good latch-on to help reduce the risk of baby ingesting air during feeding. The air vents down through the tube and into the air-space at the base of the bottle, completely bypassing the milk.

This bottle combines my favorite features from my past two favorite bottle systems and puts them right into one bottle!  I love the air vents on this bottle (that seem to make a huge difference when it comes to gassy babies!), and I love that the nipple is shaped and designed to make the transition from breast to bottle and back again easier.

Closer to Nature Milk Feeding Bibs — Closer to Nature Milk Feeding Bibs have a unique dribble catcher that absorbs moisture, helping prevent rashes on baby’s sensitive skin. Our Milk Feeding Bibs are super-soft on tender young skin, yet working really hard to soak up dribbles and spills before they can cause a rash. Perfect for those first milk feeds, they’re also ideal for the teething stage.

I cannot tell you how much I love these feeding bibs!!  The extra material and cushion around the neck is absolutely genius!!  Both of my boys were chunky babies with rolls and rolls on their necks and legs, and I can’t even begin to tell you what colors I’ve discovered in the neck rolls of my boys during their baby baths — that milk would get past carefully placed burp cloths or bibs and would just sit all day long!  On top of that, these bibs are so incredibly soft and are made of lightweight material.  I can’t wait to use these with Baby Boy #3 in the next couple of months!

Right after my first son was born, I remember a good friend of mine inviting me to go to Palm Springs (about an hour away) with her for the day.  I could hardly fathom the idea of taking my 2 month old to even the grocery store at that point, but I figured that if she was planning to take her 2 month old and her 2 year old, I could at least try it out.  Plus, I had sort of bragged to my (very alarmed) husband the day before that I hadn’t left the house for 72 hours, and I thought that maybe a trip past the mailbox would be good for me.  🙂

Well, that trip was the clincher — we all had a great time without any problems, and I realized that I needed to get out of the house to keep my sanity.  Since then, I generally leave the house and go somewhere (the park, the library, the grocery store, the aquarium, to a friend’s house, etc.) at least once a day, regardless of the weather, the age of my boys, or how much sleep we got the night before.  We definitely have our pajama days, but we all fare better on the days we get ready and go.

One of the most difficult parts of traveling with a baby (especially a very young one) for me was trying to figure out feeding; finding a place to nurse can be tricky and keeping a toddler entertained while nursing is tricky, so I usually used a bottle when we were out.  Figuring out how to quickly warm that bottle, though, was also tricky.

When I discovered Yoomi bottles, I knew that this problem of warming up a bottle would no longer be an issue with my future babies.  Yoomi bottles have their own warmers that can be charged ahead of time, which then can warm the breast milk or formula to the perfect temperature in just 60 seconds.

That’s it!  Charge the warmer, push the button, wait 60 seconds, then feed your baby.  You no longer have to hold the bottle under running warm water in the bathroom, ask the waiter at a restaurant or the flight attendant on the plane for warm water, or pray that you don’t burn your baby’s mouth after using a microwave at a friend’s house.  Check out this video to see how it works:

“Charging the warmer is easy. Either charge your warmer in the Yoomi pod in approximately 2 minutes in the microwave (750-1000 watts) using the “heat shake, heat shake” method or place the warmer in a pan of water (or steam sterilizer) and boil for 25 minutes. Once charged, your warmer stays charged and is ready to use whenever you need it.”

I love this innovative product, and I can’t wait to put it to good use with our next baby!
