We’ve chatted a little bit about exercising and being healthy. Now, let’s chat about what you wear when you put that Richard Simmons tape in and sweat it out to the Oldies. What are your go to items in your closet when you’re planning to do some yoga for that day? I’ll be straight with you, because let’s face it I like sharing totally embarrassing things with you in hopes of finding someone out there who does what I do, I grab my over sized t-shirt and those oh-so-saggy-lost-their-shape-during-my-last-pregnancy pants. Maybe you feel the same, but I don’t usually feel happy, cute, or pumped when I’m dressed like that. It’s not my style, and heaven forbid I have to go to the grocery store right after a run. No one wants to see me in those work out clothes buying cookies! I was really looking for some work out clothes that made me feel like 1) working out and 2) like I didn’t have to duck and cover if I had to stop anywhere on the way home. Enter Soybu and their amazing active fashion clothing. I’m so excited to tell you about them and share with you some of their products so you can jazz up your work out too!

I really love doing yoga! I can’t do those amazing tripod headstands by any means, but I like the stretching and time to reflect it gives me. I decided to put the pieces to the test during a mini yoga session I did. I completely love the leggings! These are the Allergro Legging in Raffia. They have reinforced stitching and the waist band is wide and supportive. I always struggle with active pants because it seems most  have that super skinny elastic in the waistband and it just cuts into my waist, that is not the case here. Also, I love how I could put these under a  jean skirt any day and not a single person would know they fall into the “active wear” category.

soybucollegeI’m just in love with this top! It is the Lanai Tunic Tank in Raffia. Aside from the comfort, color, and all over cuteness (look at those straps!) I love how long the tank is and how high up the side of the tank comes under my arms. I can do these amazing stretches with out my back showing or feeling the need to pull it down. The tank stays where I put it. I feel like because the sides come up so high I have great support and coverage!

I love the straps of this tank top! Just that added bit of detail does so much. The fabric on both the top and leggings is a bit thicker than I imagined. It’s not silky like most active clothing. It is extremely stretchy; I never felt restricted during my work out. The fabric also gives me a good hold. I think it will give me enough warmth for any fall activity especially a nice bike ride too!

This jacket is the cutest! It is the Maura Pullover in Zinnia. It’s has more of the silky athletic wear feel but not quite.  Once again the detail got me! There are flowers and other cute details sewn into the top. It’s warm so I could wear it on a chilly day with any outfit and it makes for a fantastic layering piece too! There are holes on the cuff for your thumbs, which once again helps me not struggle with my clothing while I’m trying to concentrate on my peaceful time.

The founders of Soybu set out to create clothing for the “Everywoman.” They wanted to create clothing that “would transition with her throughout her day… Soybu’s versatile active wear and lifestyle pieces help women exude beauty, strength, and balance in all they do- whether they’re enjoying a solitary moment of reflection, chasing a toddler, fitting in a hardcore workout, running to catch a flight, or meeting friends for happy hour… The company creates functional, stylish clothing so the Everywoman can get ready and stay ready all day.” I whole heartedly feel this company lived up to their mission!

As soon as I tried these pieces on I immediately felt covered, comfortable, and cute! I told My Man J that I felt like I should go on a run! I never want to work out if I feel frumpy. I think it is a super important thing to feel happy and beautiful even before you walk into that ‘spinning class’ or bust a move during Zumba. These pieces help me feel that way instantly. We should get to feel beautiful all the time, right? Why not while we work out too! Not to mention that all of the pieces are additions to your wardrobe. Soybu’s new line is filled with amazing pieces like this. I know I’d feel just as amazing in all of them as I do in these. What are your thoughts on feeling good about yourself even before you exercise? I’d love to know what you think!

You should pop over and see what other fantastic pieces they have in their store!

Empower Fitness Fusion Fit Disc {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Does the phrase “New Year’s Resolution” make your stomach uneasy?  Are you being bombarded with gym membership applications and home gym appliance ads?  Last year, at about this time, we signed up for a gym membership, and I super loved it, but with the weather being so nasty for the majority of Jan./Feb., I quickly became extremely unmotivated to leave the house with two runaways under my arms and trudge through the snow.  I’ve really found my work out groove in exercise videos and workouts that I can do at home.  We don’t have to leave the house, there are no membership fees, the boys can ‘dance’ along with me, and in the middle of a workout, I’m free to answer the doorbell, tend to dinner on the stove, or answer an important call if I need to.

I’m officially an at-home exerciser by choice, and empower really makes it easy to keep up that lifestyle.  Last year, I was able to review the Boxing Boot Camp (and you can read that review HERE).  Knowing that I already love Empower‘s products and videos, I knew I’d love this new Fit Fusion Disc.

I specifically wanted to review this set because it can be used as a kettleball, medicine ball, or dumbells, and so its space-saving qualities are a priority right now.  As far as exercise equipment goes, this is great for storing.  The workout is organized into 45 second segments that work your arms, legs, back, and glutes, making it a true full body workout.

One of the first things I noticed was the rustic gym behind the instructors, which I like much more than a spacey workout launch pad, but a black curtain that cuts the room off on the left it is a little weird.  I appreciate the moves being shown in a beginners, intermediate, and advanced fashion, making these neither too easy or too intense for a majority of us, based on what kind of workout we’re in the mood for.  The instructor is great, though at times I feel she is reading a prompt.  And is that a slight accent?  Its lovely.  I appreciate no over-dramatic enthusiasm, and the the feeling of “lets just workout, ladies”.

The design of the disk is easy to handle, comfortable to grasp, and not dangerous at all, even if left around kids.  It is a little bigger than a Frisbee, which makes me think that using it as such would be hilarious!  There are a lot of ways to hold it comfortably and the space is wide enough for both hands to fit inside one of the four holes.

I thought the workout video was great!  The first half is identical to the 2nd half, but the abs workout at the end is worth holding out for.  My 3-year old was cracking up during the “mountain climber” moves.  I felt like I got a good workout, built up a nice sweat, and that I could surely do this 3x a week and see great results.  I like that by building up to the ‘advanced’ moves during the full workout, I’ll be able to see improvement in my abilities.

This is a great, product, friends!  You can read more about it HERE, as well as watch a demo video and find retail partners.

Empower products have been featured in several fitness magazines like Prevention and Shape, and seen showcased on lots of shows such as Good Day LA, and NBC’s Today Show.

Collage Video {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Raise your hand if you like the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” I love it, and every summer when it comes back on, I live for Tuesday nights to see what new and exciting numbers they come up with each week. I’m a huge tapper, but unless there is a tapper still in the Top 20 (which is rare), they don’t do tap numbers, so my next favorite dance style to watch is Bollywood! I’ve always thought it looked like a ton of fun, but definitely a lot of hard work. So when I got a chance to pick a workout video from Collage Video and found a Bollywood Dance Fitness Workout DVD in their selection, I knew I had to review it!

CollageVideo.com is a massive online shop for every kind of workout DVD. It’s almost overwhelming the amount of videos that they carry, but if you know what you’re looking for, it’s super simple and organized. You can search for videos with keywords like “Weight Loss,” “Dance,” “Muscle Toning,” or “Jillian Michaels,” or you can search for brands like Jazzercise, Tae Bo, 10 Minute Solution and The Firm. You can also search by Workout Type, Goals, Instructors, Equipment Used and Specialty Videos (i.e. pregnancy, seniors, arthritis, kids, etc.). Seriously, their selection is incredible. They carry exercise videos I didn’t even know existed–definitely something for everyone!

As I said, I chose the Doonya: Bollywood Dance 3-DVD Set and I LOVED it! The first DVD, Beginner Breakdown, was a little slow, but necessary as it broke down all the Bollywood terms and moves that you would be using in the next two DVDs. There was a fun routine to learn at the end and I felt so cool performing with the awesome Bollywood dancers with cool moves of my own 🙂

The next two videos were great. DVD #2 is a Cardio Dance and Conditioning video, in which you get a Warm Up, a Basics Refresher Drill that keeps you warm and moving, and then 11 different targeted segments to pick from to work specific parts of your body. You could choose to do just a few routines or do all 11 plus the warm up and cool down for a 70 minute workout. DVD #3 is Abs, Glutes and Cardio, and let me tell you, they work those areas for sure! Some of the routines were a little repetitive, but because the instructors are smiling and having a good time, I found myself having a great time, too. The moves were easy to follow and the instructors were clear and looked good, though I was surprised that one of the girls always wore baggy clothes instead of showing off her sleek, toned abs and hips!

That’s real sweat on my back, no photoshopping necessary! Doonya is a great workout!

The video was only $24.99, which for three DVDs and a total of 174 minutes of exercise is a steal! That’s the great thing about Collage Video: their prices are all pretty reasonable, with some DVDs as low as $8.99! But today, you can enter to win the same video that I reviewed–Doonya: Bollywood Dance 3-DVD Set–for free! Or, if I haven’t convinced you that this is the most fun and exciting way to work your core and your entire body while feeling sexy and grooving to awesome Bollywood tunes (or if Bollywood just isn’t your thing), then you can pick a video of your choice from Collage Video’s massive collection of workout videos!

Finally spring!

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Spring has finally sprung around here and it is about time!

Our tree decided to bloom with its gorgeous white blossoms.  Not sure what kind it is, though.

Guess I’ll have to do some research and get back to you.  😉

As I said it’s great that we are finally in the spring season.

Mere weeks ago (the end of March) we were buried in snow here in St. Louis:

208926_10151378790180894_238843025_n 315048_10151378777710894_777203243_n

One day it was gorgeous outside.  Temps in the upper 50’s.  Then literally the very next day we had over a foot of snow.

But here we are less than a month later and able to enjoy the outdoors!

The kiddos and I have been having a grand time with the nice weather.  We have been trying to take walks on a daily basis.  Ruby loves to ride in the big red wagon and Banjo loves to run ahead of us.  It has also been fun to get out and see the neighbors and I’m grateful for the wonderful street that we live in.

This gorgeous weather is a reminder that swim suit season is lurking.  In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing with you about some great workout programs.  Perfect for getting in shape for the swim wear.  For now let’s have a look at some of the ‘it’ styles for the summer from some of my favorite lines:

(DownEast Basics)

(Shabby Apple)

(Lands End)

What will I be wearing this summer?  Well, given my latest skin biopsy and subsequent minor surgical procedure scheduled for later this month I won’t be showing much skin.  In fact my doctor recommends that I wear a rash guard from now on.  Maybe this one from Lululemon:

Happy swim suit shopping!

My words of advice:  Wear sunscreen.  Don’t go tanning.  I wish I had known this when I was younger.

Sometimes you win and sometimes you gain…

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I’ve been silent for over a week, because I didn’t lose.  I gained.  A LOT.  Okay not  really a lot.  Just a couple of pounds.  But it was enough to make me discouraged.  Majorly discouraged!  Remember I had a problem a couple of weeks back with being introduced to Nutella?  It’s evil.  What was the culprit this time???  Sadly there was more than one:

Sickening, isn’t it?  Of course I didn’t indulge in the mini bag of the mini eggs.  No siree.  I got the BIG ‘ole family bag.  I do have a family, so it was easy to rationalize getting that size of bag.  Only… My family may or may not have eaten the majority of the bag.  Okay.  They did not.  I ate them.  I munch.  I binged.  I lost complete control!  And the donuts.  Don’t even get me started on the donuts…

But those mini eggs.  Back to those glorious mini eggs.  They were just so good that they called out to me at the store this very morning.  They weren’t even in the spot they were in last week.  They had moved to the interior of the store with all the other Easter merchandise.  But they were able to call me I tell you!  They said, “Tara, we are over in aisle 5.  Come find us now!”  Oh and I did not resist.  I found them and I bought 2 bags.  I failed.

Someone please help me!  I’m in need of a major intervention.  Now before all hope is lost I think I may have found a solution.  Or rather it found me.  Just last week I was offered a position to do some social media consulting for Revolt.  What is it?  Well, it’s this amazing new fitness plan developed by Nichole Huntsman.  Great meal plans.  Quick workout videos.  All things I can do right from my own home!  It’s proven to transform your body in as little as 6 weeks.  I need that kind of transformation!  Do you?  Part of my job as their social media consultant is working with the bloggers.  So…  If you are a blogger and you are interested in trying out Revolt and blogging about it then give me a holler.  🙂   You can email me at dandygiveaway at gmail dot com   and I’ll give you all the details.

Getting Healthy Week 3: ONE pound!

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I never thought in all my life that I would be so excited over one pound.  It was a tough week and took a lot to get there.  Well, that’s not exactly true.  The week started off fabulously.  I stayed right on track, worked out, and ate super healthy  snacks.  This is by far my favorite:

I could eat apples and peanut butter all day long and be quite content.  Soooo yummy!

Most of the week I was feeling pretty amazing.  In fact by Friday I was down FIVE pounds.  That’s right, FIVE pounds!  It might have been a lot of water weight (okay it was water weight), but it was FIVE pounds!!!

Then Friday evening came with dinner *insert horror film music* at this place:

I had never before been to that restaurant (probably a good thing since I obviously can’t control myself when it comes to pasta) and it is dangerous…Let.  Me.  Tell.  You.

I entered thinking I would be totally good and just eat part of my eggplant parmesan.  Then they sabotaged me with bread and appetizers.  I was hooked.  That portion control of my meal?  Did.  Not.  Happen.  Plus, they are tricky tricksters.  When you order one of their classic dishes (i.e. my eggplant parmesan) they let you pick an extra classic pasta to take home with you!  How can anyone refuse free food?  Why is that tricky?  Well, here’s my logic:  You go home with that “free” meal.  You eat that “free” meal the next day, because it tastes so amazing and the guilt of it going bad is too much.  You gain weight from the 2 days of calorie rich pasta in a row.  You then feel bad from your mistake, but are now addicted to that particular restaurant.  You feed the addiction the next week by returning to said restaurant.  You get sent home with the “free” classic pasta.  And the vicious cycle goes on and on and on.

Well, this week I’m breaking free from the cycle.  I will not be returning to the above restaurant any time soon.  At least until I’m able to control myself.  😉   This week I’m going to work really hard at eating healthy (the entire week) and working out.  Plus, I’m looking forward to starting on this new fitness plan.  Stay tuned…

Empower Fitness {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Sooooo….how are everyone’s New Year’s resolutions working out?  Speaking of working out, how many of us put “go to the gym regularly” on our list?  As motivated as we are early January, who here knows the fizzled feeling of deflated enthusiasm regarding the gym come February?  It’s hard to get over there, I know!

I have always been a fan of home-gym equipment, probably because I have not always had the funds nor means of obtaining a gym membership, especially one with child care.  Since I was in junior high, I remember waking up early to use my living room for step aerobic videos before my brothers could wake up and tease me about it.  I love being able to work out at home!  I love not having to worry about wearing my cutest gym clothes, I can push “pause” and get a drink or answer the doorbell, and lately I love that my kids can “dance” along with me!  We all have such a good time!

I busted out this incredible Boxing Boot Camp from Empower last Saturday, and thought it was great!  I love a good workout–none of that sissy stretching yoga or chair pilates for me.  I want to break a sweat and feel exhausted when I’m done.  This workout was exactly what I had in mind, and exactly the kind of workout I was looking for.  Holy arm workout!  I’m pooped!

The exclusive DVD has 12 rounds of 30-minutes workouts, just like a real boxing match.  I like how each round is a little different, but doesn’t stray from the basics, so its easy to jump right in to the next round without taking time to learn something new.  Throughout the DVD, there are modifications for beginner, intermediate, and advanced “boxers”.  I think the timer in the bottom right corner throughout the DVD is an excellent feature, and I wish it were present on all workout videos.  I love being able to countdown with it, and it motivates me to push through till the end.  PS–I think 30 minutes is perfect.  It easy to chisel out a half our for a great arm workout like this.

You can build strength with the 6-lb medicine ball, burn calories with the comfort jump rope, and tone muscles with the 2-lb. weighted gloves.  I found all the equipment to be tip-top quality!

Empower-Boxing-Gloves The gloves are comfortable, and have a one-pound sack of sand on top of each wrist.  With four loops for fingers, a thumb hole, and secure velcro straps that can tightly adjust to any wrist size, you can get a snug custom fit.  I was initially worried that they would slide around during the rounds because of my small wrists, but they held their place just fine.

Medicine-BallThe medicine ball is thick, a sure 6 pounds, and can withstand a lot of throwing and dropping, since my toddler continued to shoot it into his toddler basketball hoop when I wasn’t using it.

Jump-Rope The jump rope is great.  Cushy handles, strong rope, and a good full range of motion, and I even read in the included instructions about a way to shorten it.  I only wish the jump rope was incorporated a little more into the workout.  It is primarily used in just one of the rounds.

Jaime Clampitt is a machine!  I think she is a great instructor, not obnoxious, not too peppy, and she has my utmost respect for what she can do!  Doom on whoever crosses her in a dark alley.

Empower products have been featured in several fitness magazines like Prevention and Shape, and seen showcased on lots of shows such as Good Day LA, and NBC’s Today Show.

With long-term use of this box set, I can definitely see how it would improve your endurance, posture, and arm strength!  I think its a great addition to your list of favorite workouts.

Best news ever: you too can become a product tester for Empower!  You can sign up on their website, and they are looking for all ages, fitness levels, and locations!  Head on over and get signed up like I did!

Today’s winner is going to receive their own Boxing Boot Camp from Empower!!
