Diet-to-Go: Week 2 {Review}

Remember my review a few weeks ago for Diet-to-Go, and how much I loved trying out all the deliciously prepared and delivered meals?  Surprise!  Another week’s worth of meals showed up unexpectedly last week!  Winner, winner!  I’m excited to share with you even MORE thoughts and MORE meals, especially because I think this week’s meals were even better then the last.

This time, I wanted to really see if I could lose weight sticking to this plan.  The last 5 trial days were not consecutive, and were really scattered around some poor-decision holiday eating.  Results: I lost a pound!  Its not much, but if this success was continuous, imagine what could happen after sticking with this diet for several weeks in a row.
I really tried to stick to eating only these meals, and all 3–breakfast, lunch, and dinner–during these 5-days of trial review.  Since I’m such a foodie, I thought I’d be fairly hungry throughout the day and that these frozen meals wouldn’t be filling or as much food as I’m used to, but I was frequently impressed with how full I felt after these meals.  Expecting an average TV-dinner where the words “filling and “substantial” aren’t the first ones that come to mind, the extras really make these meals more substantial, and I felt just as full and satisfied at the end of the day.  It was also easier to stay away from my desserts in the freezer, knowing that I was sticking to a meal plan that didn’t include my own discretionary calories.
So somehow I lost the menu that usually comes with all of the meals.  With everything frozen, I was worried about what meal was what, if it was intended to be a lunch or dinner, if there was supposed to be a yogurt associated with that breakfast, etc.  Not to worry, Diet-to-Go had everything online: http://diettogo.com/view-menu.  I was able to look up pictures of the whole meal, with the sides and drinks, so I could really visualize what the day’s meals looked like all warmed up and prepared!  It was also a great reference to use exactly like a menu, and select from the pictures what I was in the mood to eat that meal.
Here were some of the winners and close seconds that will give you a good idea of what kinds of meals are available (and keep in mind that these are the tradition-style meals, and that vegetarian and low-carb are also available):
Chugwater chili with sour cream, mozzarella, and a cornbread biscuit
I loved the big chunks of veggies, thick carrot rounds and chickpeas, and cornbread was delicious!day2
Whole grain pancakes, strawberry maple syrup, turkey sausage, and…asparagus?
Ya, my only qualm was the asparagus, which I thought was a little random and watery, but I still ate it, happy to get my veggies in early in the day.  It may be hard to see, but there are really 3 pancakes here, and the strawberry syrup was delicious.  day1
Michigan Turkey salad sandwich on a dakota roll, lentil chili, an apple, and DanActive
This one I give a B+, and only because reheating sandwiches is tough.  You’re bound to get some inconsistencies in texture when you’re freezing and reheating bread on the outside, and a moist meaty salad in the inside.  However, VERY filling.  I couldn’t finish it all and had to save the yogurt and chili for later.
day3
Turkey salisbury steak, mashed potatos and gravy, green beans, sesame breadsticks, and chocolate pudding
I’m loving these really beefy dinners.  They are very filling, and look at all these veggies!  They fill up half the plate.  That’s what I like to see!  The turkey was very flavorful–this week seemed to be very turkey-heavy, while last week’s was a lot of chicken, btw.
day5
Blackened turkey loin, carrot chipotle puree, and asparagus risotto
This was the most delicious meal I’ve had in months.  I was astonished by the flavor, texture, color, and quality!  Very impressive for a frozen dinner!
day4
Have these meals convinced you yet that this is a great idea?  Really, go try out Diet-to-Go!  For the convenience of having carefully selected diet meals delivered and planned out, I think this is a rockin’ program to get hooked on.

When I’ve attempted diet plans in the past, I could never stick with them for long, and it usually came down to the big inconvenience of it all.  Its just too hard to shop and cook something different for myself when I’m also cooking and shopping for the rest of the family who doesn’t want to join me in my crazy “fill in the blank” diet plan.  I’ve often thought that if meals or ingredients were already scheduled out and in my fridge, it would be easy as pie to stay the course.  Diet-to-Go is just such a plan–in fact it is America’s Favorite Diet Delivery Meal Plan, and I was super duper excited to try out 5 days of meals!

A few days ago, almost a full week of meals was just delivered to my door!  WHoah!  I frantically took a picture of everything, then transferred the frozens to my freezer, more amazed with each meal I pulled out.
I was getting so excited about this 5-day diet where I didn’t have to do ANY shopping, ZERO decisions, and no debating/bargaining/justifying.  Just stick to the menu.  Because every little condiment, juice drink, and side dish is included, you really have everything you need to accompany all your meals.  If I was a workin’ woman, I would have Diet-to-Go meals delivered right to my workplace, then I could store them in the fridge and never have to worry about shopping, transporting meals from home to work, or even having to decide where to eat out.

Now look how helpful this is: nutritional facts on the back as well as directions for heating.  Though most, if not all, of the meals’ directions are simply to just upwrap the plastic and microwave the whole thing.  Easy.

So how does everything taste!?  I have mostly all good things to report!  I loved the variety!  It was such a nice break from the tradition pb & j meals we have a round here.  And how gourmet!  Lentil chili and mushroom & leek strata?  What mom gets these kinds of dishes in 3 min. or less while concentrating on feeding the kids and running the home?  The amount of time I saved this week in food prep alone was so worth it!

Some of my favorites…
Breakfast: A Mushroom Strata, Chicken Sausage, V8, and an Activia yogurt.  This was delicious!  Its a very filling breakfast, and a great source of several food groups.

Dinner: Thai Turkey Tenderloin, Stir Fry Rice, Green Bean Medley.  Look at all that food!  It is loaded with flavor with a huge chunk of meat, and a great spicy texture.  I couldn’t eat this fast enough, and was full the rest of the day.

Two of my least favorites…
Breakfast: Asparagus & Swiss Frittata, V8 Fusion, Orange Segments.  The frozen orange segments didn’t reheat well.  Even my boys spit them out when I offered the rest to them.  The asparagus frittata was a lot better with salt and pepper!

Lunch: Grilled Cheese, Lentil Chili, Brownie.  This is a least favorite only because it looked and tasted like it was prepared on French toast bread, but if this is how you normally have your grilled cheese, perhaps you wouldn’t think twice about it.  I did appreciate the brownie!  Yum!

Are you intrigued yet?  Really, go try out Diet-to-Go!  For the convenience of having carefully selected diet meals delivered and planned out, I think this is a rockin program to get hooked on.  I tried out the Tradition Meals, but they also have Vegetarian and Low-Carb meals available.
