Whimseybox {Giveaway} – CLOSED

About a month ago, a crafty friend of mine from down the street mentioned that she’d love to get a group together for a craft night sometime.  Since my husband works an evening shift twice a week, I offered to “host” it at my house after my boys were asleep and asked what I could do to help.  She came up with a few ideas, and we decided on making a cute pendant necklace.  After I did some Pinterest research (my favorite!), I told her that I’d be happy to stop in and pick up the materials since I’d be near the craft store the next day.

I had my list of items and figured that I wouldn’t be very long, so my husband waited with the boys in the van while I ran in.  I ran in, took one look around, and was completely lost.  I started walking toward the jewelry section but didn’t find anything that I needed.  I sort of aimlessly walked the aisles, praying that the materials would start screaming my name so I could end this experience, before asking someone for help.  Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the things that I needed either, and I ended up leaving the store empty-handed.

It’s obviously not a situation I’d like to find myself in again anytime soon, but I had a great time at the craft night that evening (using the materials that my friend found when she went to the exact same craft store the next day…) and I really do like making things that I pin on Pinterest.  My frugal side also screams to me each time I purchase any sort of home décor and think that I’m sure I could create something instead of purchasing it.

In my quest to find the best monthly subscription boxes over the past several months, I came across the Whimseybox website.  One of their ads looked something like the following:

Say what??  This ad was made just for me!  I had to look into this monthly subscription a little further…

“Get started making again with our $15/month craft subscription box to the best in DIY and craft.  You will receive a new DIY craft project each month with the materials and instructions necessary. Follow our tips and techniques or make it your own way.”

I received my first Whimseybox last month, and I loved the project — DIY peppermint lip balm!!  This kit included beeswax, castor oil, peppermint essential oil, stirring sticks, a pipette, 3 tins, and an instructional card — along with a 5 x 7 art print and a reusable box.  Everything I needed was right in the box, and I didn’t have to travel to the craft store 20 minutes away to only come out empty-handed.  I was able to make up three of these lip balms one afternoon during our quiet/nap time, and I have them ready to deliver to three women I visit each month from our church.

This was a fun activity that made me feel crafty and not frustrated at all!  While it’s perfect for a novice crafter like myself, I’m sure that there are some ways to spiff up these lip balms for those crafters with more experience.  🙂

In addition to the monthly subscription Whimseybox, the website is just introducing their new Whimseybox SHOP that offers free shipping through the end of July!  You can purchase the same DIY Peppermint Lip Balm box that I received, and there are other craft kits and craft materials available in categories such as paper crafting, jewelry making, sewing, scrapbooking, home décor, and bath and body.

When you complete your DIY projects and are looking for a place to share your finished creations, the Whimseybox COMMUNITY provides the perfect place to post your new creations along with any other new project ideas that you might have!  This is also a great place to find inspiration and new projects.

We had such a great 4th of July holiday at our house!  We enjoyed a pancake breakfast and flag raising in the morning at our church, some fun swimming at the pool with our family in the afternoon, then ice cream and fireworks in the front yard with some good friends to finish off the day.  Independence Day has always been one of my favorites since I’ve lived in a military community most of my life, and I’ve become especially patriotic since becoming a active duty military spouse myself nine years ago.  Thanks to all of those men, women, and families who protect our country and support our troops!

After our long day spent mostly outside yesterday, I’m realizing that it’s just not going to be possible for us to be outside as often as we’d like in the next several weeks since I’ve just entered my third trimester.  We’re looking for some good inside activities (thank you, summer reading program at the library!), and this one fits the bill perfectly!

Carefree Crafts offers craft kits ready-made with everything you need to spend some time crafting with your kids!  I’m not overly crafty (though my Pinterest boards reveal an inner crafty-person trying frantically to figure out how to get out!), mostly because I want to craft right then or not at all.  If I have the materials ready to go, I can create pretty easily, but the set up usually includes going to some craft store where I’m completely turned around and can’t find the things that I need.

Carefree Crafts sends these individual crafts to your door for a flat $4.95 shipping for every order, or the monthly subscription ships FREE every time!  Take a look at some of my favorites:

Cutting Edge Stencils {Giveaway} – CLOSED

I’m sure you know by now that we’re a military family, meaning that we move every 2-3 years.  And, then, on top of that, we’ve had the not-so-rare experience of moving 1-2 times either from base housing to a rental in town or vice versa (or, in one duty station, we did both!).  We’re usually looking for an easy, inexpensive way to make our house a home, and I was excited to find that Cutting Edge Stencils fit that bill!

Straight from their website {with my comments in italics}…

Cutting Edge Stencils “…are so easy to work with, even beginners get great results!  {Yes, yes!  I’m a super-beginner and was able to start immediately!}

Stencils are very cost effective and so much better than wallpaper or vinyl decals!  {Although I love the vinyl decals in my home, I have not yet found a way to easily peel them off the walls, take them to our new home, and reapply.  And wallpaper?  Not touching that one!}

Stencil patterns are a hot decorating trend and so many DIY decorators are discovering the ease and fun of stenciling.  {Remember Kim Myles from HGTV Design Star and Myles of Styles?  She’s created stencils for Cutting Edge Stencils!}

Anyone can create gorgeous accent walls with stencils and so inexpensively!  It’s easier and faster than you think.  Stenciling is not just for walls, but also floors, ceilings, furniture, fabrics, and rugs!  {I created a new focal piece for my kitchen with my Rabat Craft Stencil — my mind’s reeling with other ways to use this stencil again!}”

Over the holiday weekend, I finally completed a project that has been sitting in my closet for a while — I found this great tray at a yard sale for $2 about a month ago, but it needed a little love.  It had already been sanded down, so I painted it white and left it until I had some more inspiration.  The Rabat craft stencil was perfect for creating a little interest on this piece, and I loved using this stencil to make the end result pop!

The stencils are made of a 12 mil clear plastic, which allows it to move easily while still feeling substantial and sturdy.  Here are some of my favorites:

Oh what’s in a name!  I already know I might sound a little crazy when I tell you that I constantly stew over what to name my future children.  Half the time when I can’t sleep, I play around with middle names in my head till I fall asleep.  I think a name is so important, and the first gift you can give your child!  I want it to be something I will love saying a million times, and something THEY will love hearing a million times.  Once its official, I am a sucker for any opportunity to display that name anywhere and everywhere, and Craft Cuts is one of the classiest places to do just that!

What is so incredible about this store is their ability to cut out wood lettering in practically any font your heart desires.  From cutesy curly girly fonts, to strong statement letters, you can design just the look you want for your room or bedroom.

Classy block letters for the family room!

I LOVE these letters on ribbons!  Adorable for a bedroom above a crib, or also quaint for living room décor above a couch.

And a personal favorite, wood wall letter tiles!!

What a treasure trove of supplies for artsy people looking to personalize their home!  Anyone with a creative bone in their body will have a ball perusing this shop, but if you don’t consider yourself very artsy-fartsy, Craft Cuts can certainly do all this leg work for you!  You can purchase any name already hand-painted, pre-stained, and tied with ribbon if you desire!  They really allow you to be completely creative with their blank letters, but they also can take care of you if anything in the crafty department makes you nervous, and you’d rather have it professionally done for you.

We had the huge honor of picking out some letters for our home.  I decided I wanted to make a sign of our last name to have on display in our home for as long as we live.  Though Craft Cuts can definitely design your name on a board for you (as seen here with their lettering on a base), we wanted to put it together ourselves, so I just ordered the letters individually and unpainted.  As soon as my letters arrived, I was DYING to put them together!

Here is the hubby marking things just right before we drilled them into the board to keep them steady.

I turned on a little Dancing with the Stars and painted them up with basic tempera paint and a polyurethane gloss.  Easy peasy.

I am SO SATISFIED and thrilled about the way it turned out!  Classic, professional, and something that will always be on display.

Now I just need some holiday company over to see our majestic addition to our home décor!

Craft Cuts has quite an extensive selection of so many more products besides wood lettering.  Check out their craft kits, home decor, vinyl wall lettering, and stencils!

Get ready to get your crafty face on because one winner will receive a $30 giftcard to Craft Cuts!
