Our Boo-tiful Wagon

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Remember that ultra cute, very dandy, and super fun wagon that we took on our fall outing last week?

Yep.  That’s the one!

The baby is also ultra cute, very dandy, and super fun if I do say so myself.  *wink*

(He has some teeth coming in and is constantly feeling with his tongue and sticking it out for pictures.)

Isn’t the wagon just so charming?  Our kids simply love this wagon.

The charm is all in that happy face.

My kiddos were invited to decorate the Cozy Coupe Wagon just to show how perfect it is for the trick-or-treating adventures and it is perfect.  I mean seriously… why walk from house to house when you can ride in style?  And decorating your own ride for the big All Hallows’ Eve???  Even better!

My kids really got into the decorating process.  It brought out their creativity and we were able to discuss our plans for the wagon weeks in advance.  This family activity has made this year’s Halloween festivities that much more memorable for us so I highly recommend.  Ready to see what my kiddos did to their new wagon?  Here you go:

Little Tikes sent them the wagon, I gave them the supplies, and they got to work.

Didn’t they do such a boo-tiful job?

Of course in addition to the decorating…

We just had to put our new friend in costume.

After all… Those Cozy Coupe eyes were just screaming to be a ghost.

Do you have any other ideas of how we could have dressed Cozy?

Thanks to Little Tikes we are all ready for trick-or-treating.  Are you?  It will be here before you know it.

The countdown is on.

Bring on October 31st!

Do you stay in your own neighborhood for trick-or-treating?

Or do you go all over town?

Have a very safe and Happy Halloween!

I did receive the Cozy Coupe wagon from Little Tikes to bring you this posting.  However, all opinions are strictly my own.

Tinkerbell Costumes {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

All the world’s a stage. At least in Ruby’s world it is.  She loves to dress up and do performances.  The girl dances.  She sings.  Shouts out phrases from her favorites cartoons.  All in front of an audience.  In fact our back patio is often transformed into her own personal stage.  We have a short, decorative wall just beyond our patio.  It separates the patio space from the flower bed.  Ruby climbs up onto that short wall (she learned this from her older brother) and puts on quite the show.  Notice that I keep emphasizing that it’s a short wall.  *wink*    It is.  A very short wall.  No  worries about injuries resulting from the very short wall.  Whew.  Glad I got that out of the way.  *wink* Again.

And here is Ruby performing in Tinkerbell’s Disney debut!

tink4 See what I mean?  The girl even knows when to take a bow.

Definitely thinking we need to start saving for dance lessons now!

Even the back of this Tinkerbell costume is spectacular.

As you can see Ruby also just plays dress up as the little fairy:

Yep, she’s definitely a costume fanatic.

Sometimes costumes for toddlers are difficult to find, but not at Costume Supercenter.  This dandy shop sent our Ruby the Tinkerbell costume and she has been playing dress up in it a lot.  Ruby loves Tinkerbell.  Obviously.

Screen Shot 2014-06-21 at 6.43.02 PM

There are so many different costumes to choose from.  Several Tinkerbells, but also other toddler favorites:  Superheroes, animals, and a variety of cartoon characters.  It’s never too early to start shopping for Halloween, so be sure to take a look at all that Costume Supercenter has to offer.

We sure do love our little Tink.

Dreamy Dress Ups {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Last week was the week of Dress-Up in my house. My daughter found a fairy/flower costume we’d received as a hand-me-down in a drawer and wanted to wear it almost every day. Then my son found his old Woody costume (from when he was 2) and wanted to wear that one day. I let him wear that around the house, but I had to put my foot down when he wanted to wear the Fievel Mousekewitz costume (red long-sleeved turtleneck shirt with felt hat) outside when it was 95 degrees! I didn’t, however, object to either child wearing light Butterfly Wings from Douglas Cuddle Toys outside at all!logo

Douglas Cuddle Toys has been a family owned and operated company for more than 60 years! They specialize in plush animals, especially rare breeds and species of animals. Are you looking for a plush Buffalo? They’ve got it. How about a baby goat? They’ve got it. My favorite is the Plush Llama–I’ve got a strange obsession with llamas. Douglas Cuddle Toys also offers a large line of Fun Fashion accessories, which includes adorable small totes for girls, fashion (plush) dogs and purses with (plush) dogs in them. I’ve never been one to understand the whole dog-as-an-accessory thing, but I’m not a 12-year old girl or Elle Woods, so I guess I just don’t get it. What did catch my eye in the Fashion Accessory line was the Dreamy Dress Ups.

all 3

Dreamy Dress Ups is a line of beautiful dress up wings. Now, we’re not just talking your average butterfly or fairy wing here. This is the company that makes Stuffed Skunks, remember? Along with your standard Butterfly and Monarch Butterfly, they’ve also got Ladybug Wings, Parrot Wings, Bat Wings, Bumble Bee Wings, Fairy Wings, Dragon Wings and Peacock Wings! This is smart because it makes them marketable to little boys as well as little girls. In fact, my son loved wearing the pair we were sent just as much as his sister, and ours weren’t “boy” wings at all!

We chose to review the Monarch Wings with Glitter in Purple. The wings are very well made; the fabric is thick yet slightly see-through to give them a light feel. There are elastic loops for your arms at the top and loops on the ends of the wings for attaching to your fingers, and the elastic is soft yet sturdy and attached very strongly. I’m definitely not worried about anything ripping off any time soon! The design of the Monarch Butterfly is beautiful and there is just a hint of glitter around the edges to give it sparkle, but not so much that it is overpowering and looks cheap. These are definitely a pair of well-constructed dress-up wings!

As you can see, they fit my 3 1/2-year old perfectly, but were definitely big on my 1 1/2-year old, so I’d say the age range for a good fit is about 2-12, depending on your child’s size (for the record, my daughter still enjoys wearing the wings even though they usually fall off). I love that you attach the wings to your fingers so that you are in control of the movement of the wings, as opposed to other wings that just sit stiffly on your back. This is a great choice for dress-up wings, and could even be a great addition to any Halloween costume (it’s just around the corner!). Dreamy Dress Ups wings can be purchased online for only $16.99. My kids love playing with their wings, and I’m sure yours will, too!

CorsetChick {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I used to work as a seamstress in a costume shop for a musical theater.  During my time there, I made my fair share of corsets, and now I can really appreciate the time that goes in to making a good one, so when CorsetChick asked if I’d review one of their corsets, I thought, “Get out!  Those things are so hard to make!” and then, “Think of all the great Halloween costumes you could put together with one of these!”
I’m thinking pirate wench, Medieval maiden, opera diva…you can pretty much make any costume cuter and much more feminine with that waist-shaping structure on top of our underneath a costume.  Shoot, you could make a referee outfit cute with a striped corset and a black shorts.
a20791e132a6a3b3885735_m a2079201349fa941f07e96_m
The hourglass shape is timeless, and these corsets really bring out that feminine figure.  Besides wearing a corset to be visible, on top of a costume or outfit, you can’t deny that these provide excellent support and structure underneath clothing as a type of shapewear.  Raise your hand if you wore something like this under your wedding dress.  Or maybe your Prom dress.  These have excellent support because of the lightweight bones sewn through the garment.
I am totally into costumes (hello, I’m a seamstress and into musical theater myself!) so I had to try this out.  This is the White Sweetheart Shape Corset sold for $25.99.  I must say it was much more comfortable that I thought it would be.  There are no edges that dig into the skin because of its long length and dips under the arms.
The steel busks that line the center front are intense!  Talk about some serious hardware!  The beauty of the lace up back is that it becomes fully adjustable.  You can create the illusion of an hourglass figure even if your measurements are not a standard ratio.  Their stock is not limited to pre-teen sizes either.  Their selection of plus-size corsets is just as wide and varied.
The silky outer fabric allows clothing on top to slide around comfortably, and it makes the whole ensemble a little fancier with the shine.  I’m really excited to wear this under some fancy dress the next time we go to a big holiday party, or maybe I’ll incorporate it into some fun Halloween outfit.
Hit up CorsetChick if you’re thinking of adding a corset top to your Halloween costume, or are looking for some shapewear for an upcoming event!  Homecoming, anyone?

I know I’m probably an anomaly when I say how much I love to dress up for Halloween.  I love the opportunity to put on any costume I want, be whomever I want to be, look as glam or as period as I want, and all in the name of Halloween.  I understand that not everyone may share this enthusiasm, and maybe its because it can be hard to find appealing and not obnoxious costumes for grown-ups, especially for plus-sized individuals.  Its hard enough finding every day clothes that are flattering and comfortable, let alone a tasteful Halloween costume when you are not average height and average build.  Believe me, I know!

PureCostumes.com has a number of costumes that are fitted for the taller or curvier figure in their plus-size section that don’t at all look frumpy!  Check these out!

  PM6748285_full_1 01611_full_1 F101125_full_1

These are plus-size?!  I know, right?  They are definitely not the tent-like, baggy, and unflattering things you think of when ‘plus-size’ is in the title.

These are all so fun and totally respectable!  You could wear these to a costume party at your child’s school, to the company party at work, or even your neighbor’s party where your boss might be attending.

Check out the other Halloween costumes for plus-size at Pure Costumes and get a leg up on Halloween this year!  Its really just right around the corner!

Buy Costumes {Review}

These kids are CRAZY now that the weather is nice!  We’re getting out as many wiggles as we can at the parks, but when a rainy day rolls around, they are bouncing off the walls and getting into things that never interested them before.  When desperate times call for creative measures, dress-up clothes are the ticket!

Buy Costumes let us review a Superman costume, and the time it takes to get “Rocket” in and out repeatedly is so worth seeing him act like a superhero around the house.  Superhero costumes are the hot items lately, have you noticed?  Everyone’s having superhero birthday parties.  Could it be due to a few key superhero movies that came out this summer?

This is the Superman Man of Steel Deluxe Toddler /Child Costume.  This is an officially licensed Superman costume, in a toddler size 2-4.  I guessed it would fit my beefy 2-year-old just fine, but I was quite impressed with just HOW well it fit.  It has just the right amount of stretch to not be skin-tight or suffocating, but it is also not too gaping and flowy around the wrists or ankles, so it looks like a really good fit.  It also has a tie in the back for an adjustable fit around the waist.

Its just too funny seeing my toddler with defined abs and mega muscles!  I can’t get enough of these pictures.  The chest portion of this costume is not a hard and stiff plastic sheet, but rather a thick foam, which allows for plenty of uninhibited movement and superhero action.  Because of all the padding and chest shaping, I bet you could wear several layers underneath for trick-or-treating layering and the costume would more or less look the same.  The colors are so vibrant!

The only minor flaw is this speckle of white on the chest, where the ink was misprinted.  It looks like such a small error that is specific to this suit, and probably not a problem on any other of this same costume.  The elastic footies are great for keeping the faux boots in place over any type of shoes, or just socks for around the house play.IMG_4604

“Superboy!  Superboy!”, is what I hear all around the house.  Love it.  The real ticket on this costume is the cape, and my boy actually prefers to just wear the cape around the house.  Because of this, I wish that the red cape (which is removable), had a better velcro arrangement.  Currently it has two pokey sides to adhere to the fuzzy side on the inside of the suit at the neck, and I wish the cape had one pokey and one soft so that it had a better connection when worn alone.

Overall, I am impressed with the quality, and actually expected something less durable, so I was pleasantly surprised.  How fun to have a cool dress-up costume around the house to play in!  Check out all the other fun superhero costumes that BuyCostumes.com sells!  There are some fun ones for little boys!

Costumes by Wholesale Costume Club {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Isn’t it interesting what your child’s first words are?  “Mama” and “Dada” were not either of my boy’s first words.  Or their second.  Boo.  Its been something like “cheese”, “ball”, or “uh-oh”.  Rocket is still adding words to his limited vocabulary, and for some reason, the word “COW” has surpassed a lot of other words I thought were more meaningful to him!  Oh well, cows are the new fascination around here.  Has he actually seen a real cow?  Not sure about that.  But cows seem to be his thing.  Couldn’t resist a chance to review a dress-up costume from Wholesale Costume Club, especially a Mini Moo Costume!

Look at this little guy!  Cute cute cute!

IC6027This jumpsuit is very soft with an outer short and furry texture, and not a cheaply-printed cotton, or worse off, flannel.  It is fully lined in a silky polyester and it feels pretty warm inside with enough wiggle room to stay comfortable.  It feels substantially heavy enough so as to keep baby warm outside if we took this a-trick-or-treating.

The bell is the perfect finishing touch!  I like that it hangs on a red collar so this doesn’t look too gender-specific, which is sometimes hard to find in baby costumes.  I’m actually really impressed that the bell is real metal–brass, maybe?–and even more relieved that there isn’t a dangling ball inside so that this looks like the real thing, but there isn’t obnoxiously loud clanking going on.

The deep dark black against the stark, clean white makes this very eye-catching.  My favorite feature is the grippy pink soles.  These are perfect for wobbly toddlers!  What a cute way and place to add slip-resistant pads–in the form of pink hoof footies :)  Cute little cow tail, too!  I’m also quite impressed with the headpiece on this.  Stuffing-filled horns and pink-lined ears show that attention to detail was applied in all the right places.  The secure and cleanly sewn velcro tab on the back of the neck above a full zipper makes this seamstress mommy proud.

IMG_4369 copy

As far as costumes go, I’ve been let down with the durability of some other ones, but this costume looks like it will hold up for years and years.  I even think the furry polyester will handle washing out stains easily.  God bless those words, “machine washable”.

Wholesale Costume Club has way more than just baby animal costumes.  Be sure to check out their selection of pirates, Star Trek, and super hero dress-up costumes!  If you’re gonna play dress-up, you might as well do it right!

I can’t keep from dressing up the baby in costumes!  Take advantage of it while I can, right?  Before he decides he has a mind of his own about what he wears.  Dress-up isn’t just for Halloween, y’all.  Think about all the holidays where a baby in a costume is just the perfect touch for any holiday family gathering or event!  Take Easter!

When buycostumes.com asked if I would review one of their costumes, I thought a little Easter outfit would be just too cute for the little guy.  I picked out the Little Lamb Infant Costume, and giggled when I pulled it out of the bag.  Easter pictures here we come!

Could he pass off as a bunny?  To be completely traditional, perhaps I should have picked out a bunny outfit, but I’m trying to think ahead here, and thought a baby lamb costume could be used in the future for family group costumes like “Mary and her little lamb”, or “barn animals”, or “Bo Peep and her sheep”.  We’ve got a lot of Halloweens to come, and a lot of future babies that will be wearing this!

I think the outfit is darling!  The fluffy cotton material is much thicker than I thought it would be, so it could be a great outdoor costume.  The ear hat is easy to put on and comfortable for the baby to wear, and the chin strap is soft and secured with velcro.  The footy booties have a nice tight ankle cuff that keeps them on wiggly feet, with lots of room to fit shoes inside if needed.

The pink costume satin fabric in the ears is of a good weight and feel, and attention has been taken to sewing them in securely.  The whole outfit is so FLUFFY!  Adorable.

The costume is spacious and roomy, but it could be bunchy on a smaller body and still look great.  Thus, this costume could fit a large variety of sizes.  Think multi-usage over the years.  But maybe not a 3T toddler 🙂 “Rocket”, not wanting to be upstaged by this little brother, begged and begged to try on the costume as well, and I just couldn’t stop laughing, and had to take a picture!  Oh this boy cracks me up!

Costume Discounters Disney Captain Hook Costume {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

If there’s one thing “Rocket” loves to do, its try on everyone else’s clothes.  75% of his waking hours, he can be seen wearing someone else’s shoes (usually mine), a bag, a hat, or beads :)  He loves a good costume!  Dress-up clothes are such a fun way to pretend.  Wearing a different outfit can be so fun for children who love to use their imagination and stretch their creative minds!

I think costumes are such a fun thing to have around the house, and not just for Halloween.  We were sent a Capt. Hook costume from Costume Discounters, and it has been the most exciting activity around here since it arrived.

costume discounters

The construction is commendable, especially for the price of $32.99.  I was certainly surprised with how many articles of clothing it came with–pants with sewn on boots, the jacket, the ascot, and the sash.  Back to the boots–cheers to the sewn-on feature with footy elastic that allows the child to wear their own shoes underneath, because you know there’s going to be some mad-dashing around corners and up and down stairs on trick-or-treating night.  “Rocket” isn’t wearing any shoes in these pictures, but you can see how some tennis shoes would hide right underneath the foot coverings.

This Captain Hook costume is a Child size for 3-4 years, so you can see it is a little loose on this 2-year-old body, but come Halloween in eight months, it might be just right!  Plus the elastic waistband, stretchy material throughout, and jabot with ties in the back make this costume accommodating to large and small bodies alike.

I like the gold trim around the coat, and though it might be a little scratchy, it adds a nice touch.  The costume photographs well!  The hat has been a HUGE hit around here.  “Rocket” doesn’t know many words, but since this costume arrived, he’s been saying, “hat, hat, hat” and wears this all the time.  It fits nice and snug around his big head, and though there isn’t a top to it, it stays put around his head and he can put it on himself.

To a mother, an excellent Halloween costume is one that can be thrown on top of warmer clothes underneath.  Ain’t no way I’m sending my kid out in only one thin layer of anything while he begs for candy in the cold.   For that reason, this is a great outdoors costume.  “Rocket” is wearing a pair of sweatpants and two shirts (one of them bright orange) underneath this outfit, and you can’t even tell.  I could probably even hide a jacket underneath the red coat.

I’m already of fan of Costume Discounters and their extensive collection of fun costumes.  Good thing, because I’ve got to get the rest of our Peter Pan ensemble for the other members of the family!  Its going to be awesome!
