Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

So I try to stay away from any food tasting reviews because I just know I will gobble it down in .5 seconds and then feel so guilty afterwards. But when Sjaak’s Organic Chocolate contacted me and I did my research, I knew I had to try at least one, or 3 😉

Vegan Chocolates

Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates aims to create the highest quality gourmet organic chocolates possible while participating in fair trade practices and encouraging sustainable agriculture through the use of organic, non-GMO ingredients. It is also the goal of Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates to build a socially responsible, profitable business that can be carried on for generations to come.

They had me sold at gourmet organic chocolates! I am a huge health freak. The only chocolate I will eat is dark chocolate, so when they had Organic Dark Chocolates and Vegan chocolates, I jumped right on board!

My husband tried the Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter and I was able to devour the Dark Chocolate with Almonds and let me tell you! These candy bars are so delicious! What we loved about them is they were so rich in flavor but didn’t leave that chalky left-over taste to them.

So, I realized I needed to explain why three truffles are missing from the tray. I came home from work and saw a box on the counter (I had forgotten I was expecting a package from Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates) and I ask my husband what was in the package. He then proceeds to tell me how crazy it is that I ordered a ton of Organic Chocolate that was probably very pricey, so to “punish me” he ate three Chocolate truffles. Hahaha, he felt horrible once he realized who they actually were from.

These truffles are probably the best truffles I’ve ever had, hands down. I am not a big fan of truffles just because (like I said earlier) they leave a chalky taste and are way to rich are for me. Let’s just say these were the first chocolates to disappear. The box came with a wide range of truffles, and none of them disappointed. You wont find weird ones like raspberry-orange-marmalade or something 😉

Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates are not only incredible but they are very reasonably priced! My husband couldn’t believe how in-expensive they were for being Organic/Vegan.

These Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds where actually the last to leave our house. I savored every last bite of them. What I loved is they weren’t covered in a thick layer of dark chocolate, rather more like a coco powder of dark chocolate. Which is great because I didn’t feel heavy after eating them. Whenever I had a small chocolate craving, I would grab a few of these bad boys and felt like I fed my craving without stuffing it over the top!

Lastly, Eli’s Earth bars. They are an amazing candy bar that not only is seriously so flavorful but whenever you purchase one, Eli’s Earth Bars will give back 5% to a non-profit charitble organization that benefits children. How amazing is that. So not only does it taste out of this world but it also helps so many little children around the world.

Sjaaks Organic Chocolate has a wide variety of chocolates that you HAVE to check out. What I love most is how they categorize their chocolates into seasons. What better way to say I love your or even HAPPY EASTER to someone with a box of chocolates. And the best thing, their shipping is super fast. I probably received mine 2-3 days after I ordered it all and nothing was melted.

I highly suggest ordering from Sjaak’s Organic Chocolate with Easter right around the corner. You wont regret it!

See’s Candies {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.
Welcome to the Be Our Valentine Event!  Its a Valentines-related giveaway hop, so you can follow along below with over 50 other bloggers who are all bringing you a sweet Valentines-related giveaway!
Men, if you’re ever in doubt about what to give your girl for Valentine’s, know that no woman I know would ever turn down a box of See’s Candies!  A box of chocolates is always a sweet gesture, but a box of See’s sings straight to the heart.
Honestly, any box of See’s is bound to be a home run.  I’m becoming quite the See’s connoisseur, and I still have yet to find a chocolate that didn’t rock my world.  The beauty of their array of products is that you can select variety boxes full of an assortment of wonders, or you can specialize into what you know are already true favorites like I did.  This time around, I picked out two of my favorite delicacies and got a full box of both 🙂
First are these Peanut Butter Patties.  They are just like glorified reese’s, but with a thicker chocolate shell so there’s really a crunch of chocolate when you bite into it.  The peanut butter has the perfect consistency with more flavor than you’d expect–as if there is more sugar, more salt, higher-quality butter, etc.  A full box of these is bound to go a long ways.  I can’t eat more than one in a sitting before I’m satisfied and happy to close the box for another treat later.
And then there’s the all-time-favorite Scotchmallows.  What a delicious combination of dark chocolate, marshmallow, and caramel!
These are delicious any way you eat them, but may I suggest you let them sit at normal room temp for a while before chomping 🙂 I was keeping these hidden from my boys in my upstairs sewing room, which is probably 10 degrees colder than the rest of the house, and so the marsh was a little chewier than normal.  Still delicious.  It didn’t stop me from pounding a few more before I hid the box again.
Lastly, I picked out a bag of See’s Chocolate Chips.  A quick glance will show you the difference between these and normal chips.  The size is twice as big, and the unique irregularities in shape make them a little more gourmet than normal.  On their own, they are the same delicious See’s chocolate that I know and love, so I can’t wait to bake with these!!  Talk about taking your baking to the next level.
Should I really tell my husband I have 2 boxes of the most delectable chocolates upstairs?  Still debating.

Le Parcel {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

That time of the month. A visit from your Aunt Flo. Surfing the Crimson Wave. Riding the Cotton Pony. Menstrual Cycle. Period. No matter how you say it, it stinks. And unfortunately for us women, there’s no real getting around it (except for when you’re pregnant, but that brings on a whole different set of discomforts).  However, one company has set out to change all that. I love this phrase on their website:

“Nature’s gift stinks, so we give you a better one.”

Le Parcel is a monthly tampon service that sends you the essentials you need for your period: tampons/pads, chocolate and a gift! How brilliant is that?!? You set the date it should come (every 27-32 days) and your package of goodies will come  every month, without fail (kind of like your period). You also get to customize which products you get, picking from the four most popular brands on the market: Kotex, Playtex, Tampax and o.b. You can pick up to 30 products, mixing and matching however suits your needs best. Your package gets delivered to you 5 days prior to your stated cycle start date, but you can change your delivery date at any time if your period is not-so regular. Also, you can cancel or put your service on hold at any time and re-start it up when you’re ready. Husbands/boyfriends, take note: this means you won’t have to make any more late-night runs to the store to pick up a box of tampons, or be mortified as you stand in the check-out at Target holding a carton of milk and a box of pads after work. For just $20/month, you can rid yourself of that embarrassment forever!!!

Yes, you read right; just $20 a month! But I haven’t mentioned the best part yet: the chocolate and the gift! I received a box from Le Parcel and along with a full arsenal of pads, tampons and liners, I received two pieces of chocolate–a Ghirardelli square and a Lindt Lindor ball. They were slightly melted from sitting in my mailbox all afternoon but still delicious. The gift is different each month, but the gift I received was a handmade small tote from Mermaid Market’s Etsy shop. It remarkably (or maybe coincidentally) held all 30 of the feminine products I received for that month and is currently a reminder under my sink to be Happy when I’m on my period. Right.

The free gift is a surprise each month, which I think is really exciting. It’s kind of like Christmas, if your period came on Christmas (which has happened to me a time or two–thanks, Santa).  Some other gifts I’ve seen through Le Parcel’s instagram page and website are a sugar/salt scrub, a watch, and a headband. Super cute, fun gifts that definitely make your $20/month worth it!  Here’s a short video that pretty much sums up everything I’ve already said:

So what are you waiting for?!? Go get started!!! And then…

Enter to win a month’s supply and try out Le Parcel for free!

**Because I was sent the winner’s prize items along with my review item, the winner will be responsible for paying shipping from me to you, via paypal invoice.  This also means that this giveaway is open to WORLDWIDE entries!

PB Crave {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

As the weather is starting to get warmer and warmer, I’ve been scouring my cookbooks and Pinterest boards for some great recipes that use the grill, the crockpot, anything but the stove/oven that will heat up our kitchen and the rest of our house.  We’ve found some delicious ones that we’ve used for dinners and have especially loved being outside to cook and later eat in the cooler evening temperatures.

Dinners are usually easier to make, but just yesterday I was talking to a friend about how much I abhor having to make lunch everyday.  My husband usually takes the leftovers to work with him, which means that the boys and I have to fend for ourselves or that I have to create yet another meal in the middle of the day.  Our list of lunch foods is generally pretty short and comes down to quesadillas, Vienna sausages, and (always) sandwiches.

I’ve really tried to keep our lunchtime meals healthy so that the boys will fill up on good food and not spend the rest of the day snacking, and I’m always up for trying something new to add to our very boring menu.  I was thrilled to learn about PB Crave, which offers four amazing blends of peanut butter while also using natural ingredients!

This peanut butter is artisan-crafted using high-quality ingredients and proven practices. Enjoy the new twisted taste sensation that gives you more of the mouthwatering flavors you crave—without the stuff you don’t.

–No hydrogenated oil
–No artificial flavors
–No syrups
–No high-fructose corn syrup
–Gluten and cholesterol free
–Small batches, artisan crafted
–USDA-approved manufacturing
–Fun, delicious and nutritious

Razzle Dazzle: A twisted blend of red raspberry, wild honey, cool white chocolate and rich dreamy darkness — this peanut butter offers a magical mix of deliciousness.

Cookie Nookie: A mouth-watering mix of chocolate chips, cookie dough flavor, wild honey and premium peanut butter — it’s two classics together as one.

CoCo Bananas: A tropical blend of yummy bananas, cocoa and wild honey, this peanut butter adds a taste of island paradise to any kitchen.

Choco Choco: A delicious double dose of semi-sweet and rich dark chocolate with premium peanut butter and wild honey — it’s decadence and delight in every bite.

Hagensborg Chocolates {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Happy Mother’s Day to us!  I hope everyone’s day tomorrow is just lovely!  I am so looking forward to getting a day off, as in, I will still do everything my ‘mom’ job entails, but hopefully I will get a little recognition for doing it :)  To celebrate, last night, we had a date night out to dinner (and saw someone propose in the booth next to us!), then picked out some flowers at Home Depot.  I always love a bouquet, but I am a complete sap for potted flowers that I can enjoy for more than two weeks.  So here are my flowers from the hubby, and my chocolates from Hagensborg!

A few months ago I first experienced a Hagensborg Tuffle Pig’let, and I can still remember how good it was!  I was so impressed with the supreme chocolate, that I immediately looked into what other things Hagensborg specializes in.  I was pleased in finding these Wild Boar bars, each created to feature a different country: Indonesia, Italy, Ecuador, Madagascar, and Santo Domingo.  Would I do the honors of reviewing two of these?  Absolutely!

The first most impressive thing about these chocolate bars is the intricacy in the packaging!  The attention to detail imprinted on the chocolate is remarkable!  Humorous, clever, and very signature to have cute bite marks 🙂

I felt like I was opening the last golden ticket when I pulled these out this morning!  With something so good, a mere 2.3 oz. is not something to be wasteful about, and I savored every morsel.  These bars even smell rich and divine.  The cherry on top is that these are also organic, single origin, fair trade and sustainable chocolate.

The Wild Boar – Italy bar is a wonder.  I thought it reminded me a lot of Swiss chocolate that my parents once brought me back from a tour of Europe, which makes sense, since Italy is just next door.  This is not a bitter or dark chocolate, but very creamy and still flavorful.  In my opinion, this 39% cocoa blend is exactly suited to my chocolate preferences.  It contains truffle salted almonds which are toasted “sprinkled with olive oil, truffle, salt”.  This is truly a gourmet delicacy and not just a chocolate bar.

My thoughts on the Wild Boar – Indonesia: spot on!  SO many flavors!  It reminds me of a time when I once visited a chocolate factory for a tour and got to sample some super-exotic flavors that I’d never thought could be put into chocolate.  This guy is packed with cashews that are imported from Indonesia and “spiced with garlic, chilies & lime”.  The flavors really present themselves after your initial bite, and leave a great aftertaste.  Very rich and very good!

hagensborg-chocolatesYou can find Hagensborg Chocolates in major department stores, specifically grocery chains, gift basket companies, and local gift stores throughout North America and Japan.  On this Mother’s Day, treat yourself to some of these chocolates and you won’t regret it in the least!

Sillycone Inc. {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.
For Christmas last year, I was trying to come up with a quick, fun, inexpensive gift that my four-year-old could give to his (23!) friends at preschool.  I, of course, took to Pinterest and found the genius idea of using broken crayons to fill silicone trays and make into new crayons.  I tell you, it was meant to be — I had picked up a silicone tray with 24 Gingerbread men at a yard sale for a quarter, and who in America doesn’t have extra, old crayons that need a new life?  Everything was right there in my house, and we had a great time making these funky, mixed-colored crayons for preschool friends.
Since then, I’ve been hooked on this idea, especially for the holidays.  I found another silicone tray with hearts for Valentines’ Day and another one with leaves for the fall season and Thanksgiving.  The crayons are easy to make and are fun to give or use at home during each holidays, but they also are fun for baking or freezing ice.  (Another I’m on the hunt for a shamrock silicone tray at the thrift store tomorrow…
Sillycone Inc. specializes in these amazing silicone trays that have won my heart, and even better they make them in educational letters, numbers, and symbols for extra learning fun.   All Sillycone trays “are FDA-tested and oven safe up to 550°, and freezer safe down to -50°. They cool within minutes of being removed from the oven, and cook with a perfect evenness every time. They are dishwasher safe, and do not retain odors or flavors even after prolonged and heavy use. Best of all, they fold easily for compact storage in a crowded kitchen.”
We were shocked the other day to open the package and find all of the numbers, letters, and symbols to try out at our house!  We’ve already used the Letter Trays for a fun bath time activity (thanks, again, to Pinterest): food coloring frozen in water to make ice cubes to toss in the bath tub that melt and make colored water.   We love it!
We’re excited to use the Numbers Tray in a couple of weeks for my youngest son’s 2nd birthday (already?) and for my ___ birthday (already??!).  :)  Sillycone gives great suggestions to use jello, chocolate, or wax for candle burners in any of their trays for an interesting twist.
And, they also offer just ONE STATE in a silicone mold — Ohio!  (#Camille!)
Sillycone Inc. is giving one of our Dandy readers a set of the Letter Trays — enter below!

28-Day Hug {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

One facet of womanhood I failed to mention in my post yesterday occurs when the monthly-surprise-that-doesn’t-come-in-the-mail hits and turns me into a completely different woman, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde style.  I hate how quickly I can become short with my husband and impatient with my sweet boys, while also feeling like I’ve lost energy and have waves of conflicting emotions hitting constantly.

28-Day Hug is a monthly surprise package that comes at just the right time of the month and gives you a pick-me-up via a care package.  In each package, 28-Day Hug includes good quality delicious chocolate, some packets of tea, and an aromatherapy bath salt or shower tablet.  I loved being able to soak in the tub before going to bed on a particularly freezing cold night, and I especially loved trying the shower tablet — I’ve never bought one of these before, and I think that I’m hooked now!  Showers always feel more practical than relaxing to me, but this Relaxing Lavender shower tablet changed all that for me.

One of our absolute favorite times of the day is when the mail comes and my boys run out to greet the mail carrier and collect our packages and letters so they can bring back a “special delivery” for me.  In that exchange, though, I’d rather not have it exposed to the world that I’m ready for a hug — for this reason alone, it’s perfect that 28-Day Hug is sent in a discreet small package.  It’s also helpful to not draw the attention of my two little boys since it’s more difficult to eat my chocolate in the closet when they’re knocking down the door.  🙂

The best part about 28-Day Hug is their pricing – a monthly subscription costs only $3.99 plus shipping and handling (currently set at $1.99)!   Head over to 28-Day Hug, read through their incredibly witty explanation of their subscription services, and sign yourself up for a monthly hug.

Guylian Belgian Chocolates {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I may have eaten WAY too many truffles over Christmas break.  I think I personally finished an entire box in one sitting.  Since then, all I think about are truffles!  See, I’m somewhat of a chocolate truffle fanatic as of late.  Imagine my delight to be able to review an extremely generously large package of gourmet truffles from Guylian Artisanal Belgian Chocolates!

Fullscreen capture 592012 73508 PM

I have nothing but positive things to say about these incredible delicacies.  The packaging is clean, professional, shiny, and everything arrived at my door in a climate controlled, insulated box.  We were actually out of town when they arrived, so who knows how long they were sitting on our front steps!  It could have been days, but everything was still cozy cool and not frozen when we opened it!
The perfectly shaped chocolates remind me of delicately hand carved soaps, and look almost too carefully created to eat.  My first reaction after my first bite was “Mmm, Nutella!”.  The hazlenut filling is just dreamy, and if you are a Nutella fan, these will rock your world.  The outer chocolate shell and the filling consistency are both absolutely perfect.  You don’t feel like you’ll break a tooth chomping into the soft shell (I hate hard chocolate), and it doesn’t melt in your hand or leave you with chocolate fingers.  The filling is soft, but not too creamy.  I would compare it to a good buckeye filling.  The chocolate is not waxy or bitter, and you can tell these are made from the finest ingredients, among them 100%  pure cocoa butter.
Guylian most excellently combines dark, milk and white chocolate and then fills them with their signature rich, creamy, flavorful truffle.
What makes these even more perfect for a Valentine’s gift is the love story behind the company.  Guy Foubert, born in 1938, was a passionate Belgian chocolatier who made handmade chocolate truffles.  In 1958, when he married his sweatheart, Liliane, they joined their names Guy and Liliane into their company name: Chocolaterie Guy-lian.  The young couple created their first chocolates in the shapes of seashells, and the tradition has continued.  Today, Guylian sells their chocolates in Belgium and in more than 100 countries around the world.  They use Guy’s original recipe, still made in small-batch copper kettles in Sint-Nicklaas, Belgium.
The Guylian Artisanal Belgian Chocolate Truffles, the original seashells, are available in 2 piece, 6 piece, 11 piece, 12 piece, and individually wrapped.  Guylian was super generous to send me some of each, as well as these two bars of their no sugar added bars, both milk and dark.  I have no doubt that they are top of the line, and I can’t wait to make my Dad’s favorite chocolate bar pie with them!
guylian no sugar
Love and chocolate.  It doesn’t get any better than that!  If you’re a chocolaholic with refined taste, and you’re looking for the perfect chocolate Valentine’s Day gift, GET THESE!

Thanks to Guylian, one lucky winner will receive their own 11-piece box of chocolates!

Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates {Giveaway}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt!  Lucy Van Pelt (in Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz)

Would you think me a bit fanatical if I told you I am already in Valentine-mode?  I cleared the entire house of Christmas decor yesterday, and now I can’t wait to put up pink and red hearts everywhere!  I’m already dreaming of Valentine’s treats…

Is a little chocolate the way to win your heart?  Sjaak’s Organic Chocolates creates some delicious gourmet organic chocolates!  On top of being a lacto-vegetarian operation (meaning, they have no eggs or gelatin in their factory), they support fair trade practices and encourage sustainable agriculture by using organic, non-GMO ingredients.  They are a gluten free facility and they use organic soy in all of our products.  Impressive, right?  Wait till you taste their chocolate!

Sjaak’s sent me two Valentine tote bags of their delicious organic chocolates: dark chocolate hearts and dark chocolate caramel bites.  I still can’t decide which ones are my favorite.

The chocolates have a very strong flavor of pure ingredients: organic evaporated cane juice, organic cocoa paste, organic cocoa butter, and organic vanilla.  That’s it!  It produces the most intensely rich dark chocolate I’ve tasted.  I kept thinking to myself, this is how dark chocolate should taste.  If you like a lot of flavor in your very dark chocolate, these will light up your life. IMG_1735

Sjaak’s also sent me some candy bars!  Eli’s Earth Bars: chocolate goodness certified organic candy bars.  And man oh man, they are delicious, as well as organic and fair trade, which makes them environmentally and socially responsible.  Eli’s Earth Bars also gives back 5% of every sale to a non-profit charitable organization that benefits children.  Way to go Eli’s!

They were so creamy!  That simply pure taste of ingredients void of artificial flavors and additives is one I could get used to.  There are terrific candy bars on their own—not identical to common grocery store candy bars, or imitation knock-offs.

Go check out Sjaak’s selection of Valentine’s Day candy!  It’s never too early to start shopping for your sweetheart (or yourself)!

If you also can’t get enough of the pure taste of organic, fair trade chocolates and candy bars, you’re going to love today’s giveaway prize!

One winner will receive the same bundle of chocolates and candy bars ($40 value!).  Perfect for a Valentine’s Day treat!
