Cedar’s Mediterranean {Giveaway}–CLOSED

As I’ve said before, I have a thing for Mediterranean food. Not everyone in my family shares the same taste, but my awesome sister- and brother-in-law and my father-in-law love it as much as I do. So when we were together over the Christmas holiday, I knew they would be the perfect subjects for my latest review of Cedar’s Mediterranean food!

Cedar’s Mediterranean began in the 1980’s  and was soon the first manufacturer to self-distribute Mediterranean foods in grocery stores. The brand grew in the 90’s when the Mediterranean diet became popular, and today Cedar’s can be found nationwide and is known as America’s Best Tasting Hommus. So is it really the best tasting hommus in America? We were ready to find out.

products

I was sent a giant box of some awesome Mediterranean snacks: Taboule Salad, Chickpea Salad, Tzatziki Dip, Classic Hommus, Red Pepper Lentil Hommus and two big bags of Pita Chips! My family sat down and enjoyed a Mediterranean feast one day, and these are the notes my brother-in-law took. They’re so thorough and detailed, and I pretty much agree with everything that he said, that I’m just going to paste them verbatim:

food

Pita Chips: Light and flaky, good for dipping. Pairs well with hommus dips. Nice neutral flavor. Tzatziki: Tangy, cool on the palatte. Nice balance of flavors. Good as a vegetable dip (carrots, celery, cucumber). Classic Hommus: Smooth, stands on its own. Has a nice “vinegar-esque” tang, tastes fresh, mild. My sister-in-law said it was the best classic hommus she’d ever tasted! Red Pepper Lentil Hommus: Mild, thinner, the sweetness of the bell pepper comes through. Like the pieces of red pepper in the dip. Expected more of a spice/strong flavor, but it’s not bad. Chickpea Salad: Cool and light. Oregano is strong. Good replacement for chicken salad.  Would be good as a salad garnish instead of dressing. A nice, low-cal way to add zest to a dieter’s menu! Taboule: Parsley flavor is unique. Doesn’t stand alone very well. Fresh tasting. Not the group favorite, but still good.

My brother-in-law did note that the serving sizes are small (2 Tbsp.) so most of the products are intended to be a light garnish on toast/salads, etc., not as a side dish on their own. But it’s hard not to pig out on something when it’s so good! After trying so many of Cedar’s products and being this impressed, I’m certain that ALL of their products are top-notch, high-quality Mediterranean foods. I would recommend their brand any day. And they have plenty of other products to try including a Spinach Dip, Aegean Edamame Salad, Salsas, Wraps and much more. Cedar’s foods can be purchased online or at a store near you (use their handy-dandy Store Locator to find a retailer in your area). One of you will need that store locator as you will be sent TEN Free Cedar’s Product coupons AND a Cedar’s Mediterranean T-shirt (size XL).

Today is my son’s 4th birthday, and this is the first year since he was two that he hasn’t asked for Chicken and Couscous for his birthday dinner (this year he wants macaroni and cheese–he’s officially 4). But couscous is still one of his favorite foods, so it’s only fitting that today’s giveaway is for Mediterranean Snacks!

snacks

I was sent a whole box full of delicious snacks, including Hummuz Crackers, Lentil Crackers, Baked Lentil Chips and Tapaz 2 Go. All of the snacks came in several yummy flavors like roasted red pepper, roasted garlic, cracked pepper, rosemary herb, fiery tomato and parmesan garlic.

I’d never eaten crackers or chips made out of lentils (i.e. legumes), so I was a bit wary at first. But the Lentil Crackers and the Baked Lentil Chips were by far my favorite! My favorite flavors of the Crackers were the sea salt and cracked pepper flavors, and my favorites of the Baked Chips were the fiery tomato and rosemary flavors. The Lentil Chips were good on their own, but I felt that I needed some sort of dip for the Lentil Crackers. I think that’s why the Tapaz 2 Go were invented–a package of Lentil Crackers paired with a flavored Hummus in a container that can stand and perfectly hold the hummus while you’re on the go = brilliant! Those were gone in a hot minute in my house! My 2-year old was even downing the hummus like it was frosting!

The Hummuz Crisps were not my favorite as they had a strange texture to me and I had a hard time tasting the flavor, but they were good when dipped in hummus. Mediterranean Snack foods are delicious and I would buy more in a heartbeat!  They also sell all-natural and organic popcorn, veggie straws and veggie chips, and multi grain chips. You can find Mediterranean Snacks online at Amazon.com and Abe’s Market, and at retailers such as Sprouts, WalMart, Fresh & Easy, Vons and other grocery stores; check the Store Locator to find a store near you. These would make some really yummy appetizers at any holiday party you’re hosting this season, so go pick some up today! And then enter for a chance to win a box of goodies from Mediterranean Snacks!
