Magic Moves Electronic Wand {Review}

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

“Rocket” has been enrolled in early intervention services for over a year now, and I think they’ve really helped him out!  When we started, he could say maybe 4-5 words consistently, and now he’s a motor mouth, using pronouns, 3-word phrases, etc. and he’s really on track with other kids his age.  One of our dear therapists who still comes to the house every week often brings a toy microphone for “Rocket” to sing or speak in to.  At first he was hesitant, but now he really puts on a show for us, wailing all sorts of made-up songs.  When we were asked to review this super Magic Moves Electronic Wand, I knew it would also be a hit!

61auNEJBGEL._SL1000_

Based on how much he loves that simple microphone toy, I knew his reaction to a magical wand with sounds and lights would be worth catching on video!

Precious, right?  This kid cracks me up.  As you can see from the video, this toy is super easy for kids to figure out.  There are two buttons.  The green starts a new song/action, and the purple repeats the last one.  There are three AAA batteries included and it measures 10″ long.  I really like the happy (and gender neutral) colors and shapes, and the lady’s voice is clear and friendly.

71mr8WICxAL._SL1000_

I also love how this toy promotes getting up and moving!  I am all for kids expending a little more energy throughout the day!  Here are some more of the fun actions.  There are 90 in all!

“sneak like a cat”

“fly like an eagle”

“hoot like an owl”

“stretch like a lion”

“bounce like a ball”

This toy has been a riot at our house!  Usually a toy like this becomes a source of contention because the little boys have a hard time sharing, but the short songs/actions make it easy to share after each song when the lights go out because each turn is a few seconds long.  I think this toy will be educational, foster creative expression, and also be useful in fostering more words and expression from our little guy!

This wonder is available on Amazon found HERE.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Ever since we got our Ernie the Firetruck from WOW Toys, its been the hottest item around here.  7 months later and there is still a battle between the boys whenever its out.  My opinion of WOW toys has only improved above an already 100% pleased review, as the firetruck has held up to a lot of hours and playtime and tossing down the stairs, and nothing has broken, chipped, scratched or malfunctioned.
 images
Another opportunity to review a WOW toy?  Jackpot!  We were sent the Police Chase Charlie and Police Patrol Riders, and its basically felt like Christmas morning around here.
 IMG_3793
These are not just run-of-the-mill toys, people!  Not just plastic and parts.  This vehicles have inner gears that rev up and go, creating a toy that can move on its own without the need for batteries, and no obnoxious sirens or sounds.  Holla.  They each embody moving parts, several places to put toy people, vibrant paint, and friendly characterization.
Untitled-1
They played like this for over an hour!  These toys were definitely well-thought out.  They are designed to work alone, or with other WOW toys, which all embody developmental benefits.  They encourage social development, fine motor skills, problem solving, and the use of ideas & imagination!  They really are developmentally appropriate for ages 1 1/2 to 5, so everyone’s happy…
IMG_3863 copy
…even the little guy, who is completely preoccupied with putting things inside other things.
Untitled-2
Rocket spent the morning figuring all the parts and possibilities, and on his own discovered how to get the top of the car to lift by pushing in the gas button.
IMG_3834
With so many parts and so many play scenarios, both boys can happily play together!  Clearly, these toys can keep a 1-yr-old thoroughly engrossed, though the box does say ages 1.5-5 yrs old.
IMG_3851 copy
In my opinion, THESE are the toys I want to keep around.  No way are these every being traded or sold at a yard sale, even 20 years from now.  I don’t doubt they will still be as good as new for the grandkids.  I know you’ll fall in love with these toys like we have!

One lucky winner is going to receive a Police Chase Charlie and Police Patrol Riders!  Who hoo!

Conductor Carl Wooden Track Set {Review}

The last two weeks included 82 hours of driving in the car.  82!  We journeyed across America, from Boston to Utah for my little brother’s wedding, which was fabulous in every way.  The wedding, not the drive 🙂 Little kids have a threshold, and it was definitely met.  One of the things we kept pointing out along the way to keep them distracted were all the TRAINS we saw!  My boy doesn’t know a lot of words, but one that he’s got down pat after this trip is “choo-choo!”.  If you have a little boy or grandson, you probably know the excitement that accompanies any train, large or small.  If your train lover doesn’t have a train set yet, you should check out this 56-piece Conductor Carl set!  This 56-piece set is brand new on Amazon and is only $29.99!

IMG_3216

We pulled it out this morning, our first real morning back after the vacation madness, and it was the perfect distraction for his sleep-disoriented, schedule-skewed mind!  It entertained him for a good part of the morning while I got some things done around the house, like sorting mail, unpacking, cleaning, etc.  It was such a hit!

IMG_3228

The set is made from high-quality wood.  Of course a mother doesn’t want to have to worry about splinters, so I appreciate the smooth sanding on all sides of these pieces.  It contains 56 pieces of numerous sizes, and the curved and split pieces have grooves on both sides, so the curved pieces can be flipped and used to go either direction.  My little brothers grew up with a similar set, but it had loose pegs that held the tracks together.  They would get lost, jammed, or even pinch little fingers, so the single-piece construction of these track pieces is terrific, and I don’t have to worry about the baby finding any small choking-hazard pegs.

IMG_3233

There are 8 different kinds of pieces, some strait, curved, long short, and split, so that you can create a practically endless number of different courses.  We put this small circular track together in a snap, and still had a huge pile of track pieces to make more, or expand our small one.

51L+Oh1m5BL

We enjoyed playing with our Conductor Carl Wooden Engineer Train with a removable conductor man that is not included with the set, but also available for purchase on Amazon.  “Rocket” loved being able to take the conductor in and out of the train.  He has a sweet hand-painted look about him and a friendly smile!  The train is sturdy and the wheels are secure with just the right amount of space on either side of the wheels to allow for a good range of motion on the tracks.  A magnet nob on the end allows for pulling train cars, and the paint is bright and cheerful.   Another super thing about this set is that it is compatible with all other major toy train brands, so your little man could run his Thomas & Friends characters on the same tracks along with his Conductor Carl.  I love versatility!

IMG_3236

The next thing I’m eye-ing is the Conductor Carl 100-piece set!  Dear Santa, is it too early to put in an order for “Rocket’s” Christmas gift?  This larger 100-piece set is also only $29.99 and includes 34 pieces of track, 12 vehicles, 15 people/signs, and 39 trees and houses.

41WKf5ZduPLConductor Carl, you have a huge fan over here!  Thanks for the hours and hours of train fun!  I love filling my house with classic, creative toys and allow for hours of using our imagination!

thredUP {Giveaway} – CLOSED

I’m a pretty frugal shopper and enjoy getting great deals, and I really love the thrift store that we have near our house.  They have a washer/dryer in the back so the clothes can be washed before put out on the floor, which means that it doesn’t have that “thrift store smell” to it.  They have high standards for the clothes they sell there, which makes a world of difference!  Once, I found two sleeper pajamas for my youngest, and the cashier gave them to me for free because they had some pilling on the feet — she was surprised they were even put out to sell.  !!  I know that there are a lot of places I’m going to miss when we leave North Carolina, but that thrift store is at the top of my list!  We have saved so much money and have lots of good quality items because of their high standards.

A good friend of mine told me about an online consignment shop that features great clothes for boys and girls, but I was a little hesitant to jump onboard.  While I’m frugal, I’m not cheap — I know that my two active boys will (hopefully!) be using the same piece of clothing at some point, so I like to find clothes that will withstand lots of play and washing.

main

After a few other friends mentioned thredUP, this same online consignment shop, I thought that I should check them out.  We’re heading overseas next year, but we won’t know where we’re going until just a couple of weeks before we move — I’m not sure that they’ll have great yard sale websites and thrift stores like we have here, and I’d really love to be able to find a way to save money and still get good quality clothes.

Well, I was not disappointed!!  I went through the boys’ clothes before going online, and, while I have almost an entire wardrobe for every season in sizes 2T to 5T (hallelujah!), I don’t have those nice white shirts for the boys to wear to church on Sunday.  White shirts are just asking little boys to play harder and eat messier, and not ONE has made it into the “hand-me-down” pile.  I decided to get some short-sleeved white polo shirts to add to my collection.

complimentary

It was easy to search on thredUP by size, style, gender, color, sort by price, etc., and I was especially excited to see so many options with lots of brands and some even new with tags (NWT).  The shirts arrived on Tuesday, and I LOVE them!  I was amazed at the quality and that they were still white, and I really liked that they were good name brand clothes (two Gymboree, one Children’s Place, and one Arizona Jeans).  And the best part?  $20 for all four like-new white shirts delivered to my door.  It’s too easy!!

The reason for these good quality clothes comes from their high standards — each piece of clothing goes through a 12-point inspection: no tears or rips, no marks, no fraying, no odors, no holes, no pilling, no missing parts, no stains or spots, no fading, no peeling, no hair, no stretching.

In addition to the option to buy new or like-new clothes from thredUP, you also have the option to SELL your own new or like-new clothes to thredUP!  You start by ordering a free bag to be sent to your house, and you fill it with items that meet their standards.  Each bag can hold the equivalent of a standard laundry basket, which is perfect for spring cleaning and switching out clothes for the season change (right now!).  You send the filled bag to thredUP for free, and they pay you for every item they can resell.  That payment can come in the form of thredUP credit, PayPal, or donation to a charity.  Take a look at the video below:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SPdwcnJKlSo]

I was incredibly impressed with thredUP, and I know that I’ll be using them again in the future.  In addition to clothes, they also have shoes, jackets, accessories, and Halloween costumes — again, in new or like-new condition at discounted prices.

And, my favorite part??  I just noticed that they are in the process of opening a new Women’s Shop to buy and sell clothes in women’s sizes!  You can join the waiting list for exclusive access to pre-launch activities and to be informed when the shop opens.

thredUP is offering one Dandy reader a $25 credit to use at their website!  Enter below to win!

Marshall Publishing Trucks DVDs {Review}

He fought it.  It wasn’t Blue’s Clues, so he was skeptical of it being anything good, but within 5 seconds, he was hooked.  Line and sinker.  “Rocket” was completely entranced by a DVD of all sorts of trucks doing fantastic things.  This DVD, appropriately called “Lots and Lots of Trucks” has since become the favorite movie of choice around here, thank you Marshall Publishing!

The moment you turn on one of these DVD’s, you are greeted with catchy music that instantly captures the attention of any toddler.  They are quick paced, spending only a few seconds on each frame.  Each DVD is just as friendly and happy as the last!
yhst-59124551425647_2248_26982703
The first DVD we watched was Lots and Lots of Trucks, and just like the title says, it was filled with lots and lots and LOTS of trucks!  What an extensive amount of never-repeating footage of trucks doing all sorts of things, in a huge variety of different locations.  It is such a buffet of visuals, and very entrancing!
yhst-59124551425647_2248_35332468
And just as I thought no video would replace the awesomeness of the Trucks DVD, “Lots and Lots of Fire Trucks” was just as fantastic.  These movies have just the right amount of dialogue–not too much talking to bore little kids.  We really liked the friendly fireman on the fire trucks DVD.  There is sure an extensive collection of footage!  These clips were not filmed in a single day.  They span thousands of miles and easily over a hundred different vehicles doing all sorts of things.  There are great sound affects and fun slide transitions from video clip to video clip. I tell you, these are so entertaining!
yhst-59124551425647_2246_12639036 yhst-59124551425647_2248_39418320
Last, we enjoyed some Lots and Lots of Monster trucks.  Pretty exciting stuff!  Very impressive monsters.  The Monster Truck Classics DVD is probably suited for ages 3 or 4+, as there is more dialogue throughout, and not the same catchy tunes in the background as the other DVDs.  The feature includes history about how monster trucks came to be and interviews with the truck drivers/builders.  It is evident that it was filmed within the last 25 years, but the title is “classics”, after all, which make them timeless!  My boy was still enthralled, even with the host commentators narrating the show instead of catchy songs in the background.  Most of the action takes place in superdomes and stadiums across North America and Australia.  The mud run races were pretty great, and I must say I’ve never seen something quite like it!  Near the end is a visit to see the world’s biggest truck at the time, and the car show at the end was fun.  It concludes with some impressive drag racing, for a total of appox. 3 hours among the three programs.
IMG_2181 copy
The real cherry on top was the two CDs included in this set of videos.  My boy squealed in delight when it turned it on in the car after he had watched the videos inside.  He clapped to the music of “Lots and lots of fire trucks”, and I am just SO relieved to be listening to something other than animal songs!  Great sound, the words are clear, and the voices are fun to sing along with.
So what do I think?  I think you have a little boy who is at all into trucks, fire trucks, monster cars, jets, planes, trains, or moving things in general, these are terrific DVDs for your child’s collection.  They are eye-candy for a busy little mind who love to watch things that go!  And a two-DVD set for $19.95 is pretty dandy.  Especially because these are not available in stores.  These would make great birthday gifts!
And I just got a sweet tip to keep checking their website for new arrivals this summer – Lots of Roaring Rockets and Alphabet and Counting Songs!  How fun!

I’ve been having way too much fun dressing up the baby for photoshoots lately :).  I know he will only let me for so long before he has a definite opinion of his own about what he will and won’t wear, but in the meantime, I’ll take advantage of it while I can!  I’ve found a darling shop called Baby Wingz that carries baby accessories that I think you’ll love if you have a baby in your life (or one on the way!).

Pictures3-005 (1)Get a load of these simply adorable baby socks! Untitled-1

Living in downtown Boston, you can imagine we see a lot of fascinating kinds of motored vehicles around here!  In any given day, we see boats, ferries, cruise liners, semis, buses, ambulances, fire trucks, subways, city buses, airplanes, dump trucks, motorcycles, police cars, you name it.  A little boy’s heaven, right?  A little child’s fascination with “things that go” amazes me!

The moment I came across Shirts That Go, I knew it would be a huge hit with my toddler!  A store of shirts for kids and toddlers with the most detailed and exciting prints of anything with wheels, wings, or sails!  They currently carry over 30 designs!  Here are some of my favorites:

“Rocket” got excited about nearly every shirt I showed him online, but I knew his favorite would be the Diesel Train shirt!  We ride the subway all the time around here, and this train shirt is the new favorite!

Perhaps the thing I love most about Shirts That Go is that Nick, the owner and founder, created the company with his own little boys in mind as far as what they might like, but wasn’t available in stores.  Cute, huh!

Wouldn’t these be adorable Christmas gifts for your own little guy!?

And I just came across a Shirts that Go bonus: coloring pages!

Banjo will be 4 in April!  Now that he’s gotten to be such a big boy (no longer even close to infancy) I’m starting to feel a little bit proud of my accomplishment.  Just a tad.  He’s turned out rather well if I do say so myself.  Now I cannot take full credit for this of course.  The audiologist man did take part in the raising and teaching process.  Plus, it’s highly possible that Banjo got his mellowness from his father.  Okay he did.  For the most part Banjo is generally well behaved and Regardless of how he earned his good behavior I think that I at least know much of what it’s like raising a boy.  Well, up to this point that is!  Any words of advice or encouragement for the next 14+ years would be greatly appreciated.  🙂

Having an almost 4 year old boy means that I also know a lot about boy fashion!  But isn’t it just too difficult to find the most trendy, most affordable, most stylish, most designer boy clothing all in one stop?  You mothers and grandmothers of the boys know exactly what I’m talking about!  Where must one turn?  Well, the answer to this age old question lies within the internet pages of The Boy’s Store.  There you will find everything boy!  For starters…
