Star Day

Yesterday marks two years from the day we rolled into Boston with everything we owned in a Penske.  New England had just had a monumental series of snow storms, and a good 18 inches of snow was there to greet us.  I mostly remember being colder than I ever had been in my life, living in a basement apartment where I could feel a draft on my face while we slept.  The sun would go down at 3:30pm, and my husband would come home after 9pm every night.  My high-maintenance 2-month old would never let me put him down or sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time during the day.  Groceries were costing twice as much and my entire savings from my last two years teaching was spent on our first and last month’s rent.  On the morning of our first snowstorm, our car was towed off the street because of parking regulations (no parking on the even side of the street when it snows), and my phone had hardly a bar of reception, so half the time, I couldn’t even call my mom! Yet we were SO HAPPY!  We had each other, and we were on our first adventure, with a job, a home, and a little baby.  We were hundreds of miles from any family, but we were living the city life and we were loving it!  Two years later, things are rosier, and I still can’t get enough of this exciting and ridiculous city.  Here’s to Boston, and here’s to us!  Thank you, Tops Malibu, for the sparkler wand star to help us celebrate!  It was the perfect touch to our cupcake celebration. I have a dear friend who I so admire as someone who follows her dreams!  She does what she loves, follows her heart, and is always the first to rsvp to the silly parties we throw.  She has come to my rescue more than a dozen times, and I might be one of her biggest fans of her new Etsy shop that just opened last week!!

Emily makes all her pillows herself, from her adorable little Boston apartment.  The images are screen printed with fabric safe ink, have zippers along the bottom seam, and they are cute, cute, cute!

If you love her pillows too, you have to act fast because Emily is doing a giveaway for these first three pillows, and it ends TONIGHT!  Run over to her website HERE and enter her giveaway!!

You can find the Little Boston Print Shoppe on Etsy HERE.

Enter Emily’s giveaway at “For the Love”, and tell her Camille sent you!

Inspire Your Walls

When we first moved to Boston, I knew some vinyl wall art was the first thing our apartment needed to make it our own.  I love that vinyl wall décor is such a great option for renters like us, who don’t have the liberties to permanently alter the walls and stairwells, but want to badly to change things up a bit, or personalize the space that is now our lovely home!

Inspire Your Walls is a lovely shop of charming art decals!  I have the privilege of personally knowing Hollie, the owner and designer, and I know that anything she does, she does it well and efficiently!  I’m currently sewing her an ottoman cover she designed, while she is helping me add some cute details to our home! Namely these little duck decals:

As soon as I saw this Three Little Ducks decal, I knew it would be perfect!  If you’ve been to Boston, you know that in Boston Commons, there are these bronze duck statues depicting the mallard ducks in Make Way for Ducklings who decided to raise their family in the Boston Public Garden.  (Here are my boys and their cousins last week on the ducks!)  How thrilled I was so see a vinyl set of ducks for our walls!  Perfectly Boston, and perfect for our kids’ rooms!  Thank you Inspire Your Walls!

Here are some more stickers I think are just darling!  A mess-free pet fish!  Haha, this is the kind of pet I can agree with.

A growth chart that stays in its place and looks so much more professional that pencil markings!

And chalkboard blocks!  Genius!  A place for notes and memos any where you’d like!

And here’s a personal favorite of mine.  Sometimes I really get worked up and anxious over silly things, so I’ve been having to tell myself to calm down, take a breather, and chill!  I’m going to display this up in my sewing room, so that when I start to freak out about tricky seamstress jobs, rush orders, or picky clients, I have a visual reminder to just keep on keeping on and everything will be just fine!

Have you fallen in love with Inspire Your Walls yet?  A lucky winner is going to receive: any item of their choice up to $50!

I’m a sewer who gets that butterfly feeling when I walk into a fabric store and see all the beautiful possibilities!  Can anyone relate?  That “Oh what I could do with a yard of THIS!!” thought races through my head with about everything I see.  That same longing reenters my mind every time I visit the Fat Quarter Shop online.

The specialty cuts are the most tempting to me.  Fat quarter bundles, charm packs, jelly rolls, and layer cakes!  I recently ordered the Circa 1934 and Reunion charm packs from The Fat Quarter Shop and made a little quilt of Boston!

This is the view of the city from our house just across the harbor.  I love that I’ll be able to take our city with us wherever we move to next!  It hangs on our wall in our living room.  For this project, the charm packs were perfect, because I only needed little pieces of lots of coordinating pieces.

Can’t you just think of a dozen things you’d do with all this fabric?  Quilts, bags, little girl dresses, home décor, pillows, diaper bags, anything!  Oh Fat Quarter Shop, let’s be friends.

PS –Are you on their mailing list yet?  I am, and I look forward to every email I get because its usually full of new kits, collections, ideas, and beautiful finished quilt projects.  I love being informed about the newest arrivals.  Speaking of new arrivals, the Gypsy Girl by Lily Ashbury yardage is in!  Look at this beautiful collection!

And now on to the giveaway prize!!  The winner is one lucky lucky soul, and I am so jealous!  The winner will receive:

A Gypsy Girl Jelly Roll by Lily Ashbury!!  It includes 40 2 1/2″ stripes of fabric rolled up and tied in a cute ribbon!
