Little Tikes Garden Chairs {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Can you tell that we like to read?

388117_10151412362010894_2144559091_n

Yes, we like to read lots.

All winter long and into the early spring we were shut ins around here.  So all of our reading took place indoors.  We didn’t even venture out to the library.  No siree.  Why is that?  First, it was super cold outside.  Second, it was super cold outside.  Third, it was super cold outside.  Okay you get the idea.  It was super cold outside.  Then… Don’t even get me started on the amount of snow that was dumped on us.  Loads and loads.  All winter long.  I thought that it would never end.  We even got a snow storm when I was postpartum in the hospital with Cache.  Oops. I think I must have left that out of Cache’s birth story.   Yes, I know that I forgot to put that part in.  Basically a HUGE snow storm decided to come rolling in the day after he was born and we weren’t sure if we were ever going to get to leave the hospital.  For some reason when it snows in St. Louis the ENTIRE city shuts down.  Does that happen in other cities?  Anyway, back to our love of books… Now that the weather is simply glorious outside (not too hot and not too humid yet) we can take our reading outdoors.

My friends over at Little Tikes sent Banjo and Ruby these adorable garden chairs.

The chairs are the perfect size for their little tushies and are now their favorite reading spots in the backyard.

You guys!  I have another fun Blog Hop for you today!  ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN of us have joined up to bring you some fabulous giveaways, and all of them are book-related!  Its our way of officially saying goodbye to summer and hello to staying indoors and cozy-ing up to the comfort of books and novels, virtual or in print :)  Be sure to hop around to all the blogs at the bottom of this post, and check in with our hosts, BTS Book Reviews, Decadent Publishing, and Everpress Media for the grand prize of a Kindle or Nook!  (They are the first three blogs to follow in the list below) hop-summer-september-1

Our featured giveaway here at Dandy Giveaway is sponsored by Poyomi.  Now to introduce them, let me tell you about how I have an entire bookcase of 3-inch binders chock full of pictures of me for every year of my life.  Its true.  My mother has labored for hours over pictures, cardstock, and cut-out printed captions to preserve all of our memories since the day I was born!  I LOVE looking through these scrapbooks that have preserved all the pictures and stories of the people and things that I love!
Poyomi-logo-300x300
Try as I might, I am not my mother.  I can’t do it!  I could keep up with it for awhile, but I think the 2-kid lifestyle pushed me over the edge and I just have TOO many great pictures I want to preserve that we really don’t have the space to keep adding a 3-inch binder to the collection every year.
poyomi-photo-book-famly-looking-at-photo-book-1024x682
I have actually been anti-photobook for awhile, convinced that they are a little too impersonal and uniform, but I’ve really changed my thinking after creating my own book with Poyomi.  Putting it together online was really just an exciting, creative, and fulfilling activity for me!  I was able to paste in all of the important pictures I could find from other that last 15 months, which came out to be 90 pages, and the entire book is less than 1/4″ thick.  Your book could be 20 pages or less or even up to 384 pages!
IMG_6874
The creative process was so easy and slick.  I basically uploaded the pictures I wanted, selected which ones to combine onto a page, and rearranged if I wanted certain pictures to be larger than others.  There were multiple times that I saved my project and came back later to finish up.
poyomi
I felt just as crafty as if I was cutting and pasting actual pictures because I’m still copying, pasting, arranging, and really personalizing my own scrapbook, but it is just SO CLEAN that I don’t want to ever go back!  The pictures look printed in high-resolution on thick paper with the detail and brightness preserved.
IMG_6878
Poyomi can create your photo books into different dimensions besides the standard “Letter” size.  They can also print into “Digest”, “Digest Landscape”,  “Square” and “Calendar”, as well as perfectly bound, or saddle stitched.
IMG_6886What I reeeally love about this set-up is being able to paste in pictures of odd and unusual dimensions, like collages I have photoshopped together for blog posts.  If I were to print this in regular 4 x 6 format, things would get chopped off, squished, or come back completely unusable.  Poyomi lets me keep the dimensions I’ve got, and just arranges according to what layout makes the most sense.  Zero frustration.
IMG_6876
They also have an ipad app and an iphone app, and both are free.  Here’s a snazzy video to give you an idea of how that works:
Doesn’t this inspire you to want to create your own book of memories?!

One lucky winner will receive $50 to spend at Poyomi to create their own photo book!

I feel as if I have taken an afternoon off, wandered the streets of some adorable city, and discovered in a quiet corner off the beaten path, a  bookstore most quaint and full of all my favorite classics.  But instead of books, I’ve really found a collection of shirts, stationary, and accessories, and instead of a bookstore, the gem of a shop called “Out of Print“.
 oopc logo
This has got to be the ideal place to shop for the budding novelist, the avid reader, the lover of all classic literature.  Hop from book to book and behold the oh so alluring visuals of familiar characters and titles!
They really do have everyone covered.  T-shirts for the thinkers…
 B-1020-3T B-1053-2T B-1062-3T
Bags and stationary for the romantics…
TOTE-1012-2TZ-CARDSET-1001-2T
And titles from our childhood favorites!  Oh how I loved Harold and the Purple Crayon!
out-of-print-kids
Now here’s something my little brother might not ever admit to.  When we were in junior high, we rented the 4-hr version of Pride & Prejudice and watched 15 minutes at at time every night for weeks!  We loved it, quoted it, and since then, Pride & Prejudice has been such a favorite of mine!  I saw this title in Out of Print’s shop, and knew I had found my book!
Untitled-1
Check this out: its an e-reader jacket that looks like a bound book!  Traditional bookbinding techniques around the water-resistant rubber cradling interior.  This product reeeeeally makes me want an e-reader!  But since I don’t actually have one, my next favorite was the matching Pride and Prejudice book cover fleece long sleeve shirt!  In fact, thinking about how much I love this classic inspired me to go check it out again from the library.  And yes, that yellow book stamp card is actually the clothing tag!  Love it!

Oh, this baby is so soft!  The raw hem finish around the off-the-shoulder neckline makes this more stylish than just a standard sweatshirt.  The black heather/gray lets me accessorize with any color I like, and the kangaroo pocket is just the right size for women’s hands, and not gaping or stretched.  The beautiful softened white print has such a lovely amount of detail to be eye-catching and memorable, but not distracting.  I think I look like a refined bookworm with excellent taste in comfortable fashion 🙂

Honestly, go look up the memorabilia in your favorite classics!  One of these items might just be the PERFECT birthday gift for a close friend.  Or for yourself.  Or for FATHER’s DAY!

At our church meetings, the last hour is split for women to go to one class and men to go to another.  At the same time, children 18 months and older are learning in their own classes, while children younger than 18 months stay with their parents.  Generally, these infant and pre-toddlers would go with their moms, but I’ve been surprised over the past few years to find that more and more of these young children are going with their dads to class instead.  In fact, my husband and I were just talking the other day about how almost everyone in his class has his son or daughter while their wives go to class kid-free.

I. LOVE. IT.

I love when dads are equally involved in parenting, and I especially love how naturally they fall into this important role.  I’ve joked before that my husband would probably be the better stay-at-home parent of the two of us (though he’d have to fight me for it), but I’m not sure that I’m really joking.  His attention span for make-believe games and playing with toys beats mine any day.  And he makes a mean grilled cheese sandwich.

DaddyScrubs is a one-of-a-kind, innovative company that celebrates fathers and expectant fathers with fun products to help them prepare for this new role.  Check out this great DaddyScrubs video with information about the company and products!

DaddyScrubs has great expectant father gifts such as these hoodies that come in all sizes and in a variety of colors.  My husband’s favorite story from our first son’s birth is that he was in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops (because it was 100 degrees outside in sunny Palm Springs, CA!) but that he was FREEZING as he fed my ice chips in our 60 degree room that I swear was stifling.  He wore a hoodie for our second son’s birth.  🙂

Another great new dad gift from DaddyScrubs is from their selection of t-shirts or hats.

And, my favorite daddy to be gift is the DaddyScrubs Bag O’ Books.  As a mom of two boys back to back, I had everything that I needed for my second son — we saved all of the clothes, toys, gear, you name it, but the books had quite the wear and tear from lots of love.  We can never have too many books, and these ones are perfect for storytime with Daddy while Mommy teaches piano lessons.  :)  We received the Bag O’ Books at our home last week and loved to find that there were some books better suited for our four-year-old while also including board books for our one-year-old.

You Can’t Make Me {Book Review}

You Can’t Make Me (But I Can Be Persuaded) by Cynthia Ulrich Tobias

I think I have a very strong willed child.  See, I don’t know, because he’s my first!  Maybe he’s just a typical toddler, but I do think he’s much tougher than other sweet children his age, and he’s certainly gotten me looking for some literature guidance on how to raise him up right!  Whether he is or he isn’t, wasn’t or will be, I found this book comforting and interesting on many levels.

I thought it was perfectly informative, humorous, pleasant, and non-judgmental, as the author classifies herself as a SWC (strong-willed child), with a SWC son of her own.  I could see myself and my son in many of her stories.  I think this book can be helpful to parents of strong-willed children of all ages, as it discusses how to help the toddler, school-age, and teenage child.  I appreciate that it wasn’t a “How to fix your problem child” book, but rather a “How to bring out the best in your amazingly passionate child”

Most helpful of all, I feel empowered with a new sense of how to talk to strong willed children—which questions to ask, how to direct instead of force, and what phrases to avoid, as now I understand that he still needs to have some control and choice in all matters.

Instead of seeing my boy as my exhausting challenge, I see him as a great force that is capable of things that others aren’t, as in “the very traits and characteristics that get the SWC in trouble are the ones that could potentially change the world” (p. 97).

I think this book is a great resource and a great parenting tool for new parents, and even experienced ones.  I also appreciated the religious messages and God-centered advice to parents.  I will be recommending it friends of mine also looking for help in raising their own little “rockets”. 🙂

See the Author’s website HERE.  More information on the book can be found HERE.  In fact, you can read Ch. 1 HERE, and read an author bio HERE.  I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

It’s becoming more and more difficult to keep Banjo entertained during church.  After all… Banjo is 3 years old!  He doesn’t like to sit still or stay quiet, so of course the 1st hour on Sunday is difficult for us.  He goes to nursery (singing time, play time, lesson) for the 2nd and 3rd hours, so he’s someone else’s problem then.  :)   I’m only joking about him being a problem.  He really is a good kid.  Just a kid.  I often find myself looking around during that 1st hour of church and see that others are struggling with their children too.  So fortunately it’s not just Banjo making all the noise!  :)  One thing that I’ve found to be particularly effective is his “My Quiet Book.  We received this from My Growing Season quite awhile ago and it’s awesome!  He loves to take the items out of the pockets, etc. We’ve even found that children sitting in the pew in front of us like to turn around to see his cool book.  ;)   Recently My Growing Season sent us the “Let’s Count 123” quiet book and it’s another hit with Banjo!

He really likes the above pages the best!

There are so many fun quiet books to choose from, but what else does My Growing Season carry you may ask?  Well, they also have the CUTEST charts:

and

holiday advent calendars:

I attempted to make a Christmas advent calendar last year and the materials are still in the closet upstairs in my craft room!  I’m thinking I need to order this one from My Growing Season!  🙂

There’s even a variety of soft toys like these adorable animal finger puppets:

Ready to find out what’s being given away this week from My Growing Season???  One very lucky winner is going to get to pick out their very own quiet book!  Yep it’s winner’s choice of which one!

I’m a puzzle kind of gal.  It’s just so relaxing to sit and work on them.  I may not be very good at them, but I like working on them!  I’m just not very spatially skillful.  ;)    My son on the other hand has the spatial skills!  He loves puzzles and I love the fact that he loves them.  They can keep him occupied for hours and it’s something fun we can do together as a family.  Plus, it helps to develop logic and problem solving for his little mind!  Recently this fabulous company, Twin Sisters Productions, sent me this way fun puzzle for the little guy:

It’s seriously ADORABLE!  The pieces are jumbo size perfect for his little hands to manuvere.  And it’s over 3 feet long making it a really cool floor puzzle!  But what’s more is it came with a CD of music and an activity book.  Both are dedicated to teaching about what to do in an emergency and the steps for dialing ‘911’.  Yep it’s fun, musical, and educational!

In fact all of the items carried by Twin Sisters combine fun, music, and education.  How fun would this US Map floor puzzle be?

While listening to the music CD that features “The Star-Spangled Banner”!

Board Book Albums ***ENDED***

We all know that babies and small children are drawn to certain things.  They like books.  They like items that are tangibly friendly to their little hands.  Probably the main reason for board books being so popular amongst our littlest of friends.  Babies also love faces!  They like to look at human faces in person and in pictures.  This is proven research that I actually spent hour upon hour learning about in college.  I won’t bore you with all the research mumbo jumbo.   Just trust me on this one.  :)    Knowing this information… Wouldn’t a baby simply love to look at a photo album with pictures of loved ones in it?  Of course they would!  Now take your regular, run of the mill kind of photo album…  Kind of flimsy.  How about one constructed to be more durable?  Maybe like a board book?  PERFECT!

After all, babies love board books and they are perfect for those little hands!  Board Book Albums recently sent me a Blue Take Your Pix album for the Banjo.  He’s quite impressed!  Each page has a notch in it.  Making it even easier for his little hands to turn the pages!

But these great board books aren’t just for babies and small children.

With the initial design of these photo albums you can go from a look of simplicity to one of uniqueness by adding your own decorations to alter the image of the book itself.  How cute are these ideas?

With Board Book Albums the possibilities are endless!  Would you love to own one of these cool albums from Board Book Albums?  Well, one lucky person is going to win just that and it’s winner’s choice of which style!
