Once my son turned 3, my husband and I decided he was old enough to start playing games, so we got Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders for our family for Christmas. We had fun playing for about the first 10 times. After that, my husband and I would both cringe when he would ask to play either game. It wasn’t necessarily the game’s fault–he was young and would make up his own rules or would get really mad when he wouldn’t win–but the games definitely got real old real fast. Now he’s almost 4 and can handle more complicated and mature games, like card games. One of my favorite  card games that I played with my dad growing up was Go Fish, and Patch Products has put a new spin on this classic game with Go Oink® and Go Ape®!

Patch Products sells games, construction sets, educational toys and puzzles, all with the main goal of families having FUN! They began making just puzzles in 1985 and since then have grown to produce hundreds of games and toys for kids and adults alike. Some of their more popular games include Farkle Frenzy®, The Game of Things…®, Bed Bugsâ„¢, Malarky® and Shark Attackâ„¢. They also have a huge line of  brand-licensed games including Dora, Clifford, SpongeBob and Where the Wild Things Are.

I was sent a copy of both Go Ape® and Go Oink® to review. Both games immediately became family favorites! We play Go Ape® at least once a day, and we rotate in Go Oink® every few days. Both games are similar to Go Fish, but instead of asking for a specific card to get three-of-a-kind, you have to act out what is on your card. So, in Go Ape®, you act out the action that the monkey is doing on your card. There are some really funny ones, and playing with a 3-year old is even funnier. We definitely have some favorite cards that, when one of us picks, make us giggle in anticipation to act it out. Of course, just like in the regular game, if the other player doesn’t have the card you asked for, you say “Go Ape” and they pick from the pile. Go Oink® is similar, except there are cartoon pictures of animals on the cards and you have to make the corresponding animal noise to ask for a card. We found that, before you play, you should go through all the cards and designate sounds for each animal. Most are very straightforward, but a few, like the lion and the bear, can sound similar, and it’s best to establish your “house rules” before you play to avoid confusion.

These games are definitely fun and hilarious to play together as a family. My 3-year old was able to pick up the mechanics of the game after about 3 games, though he still has a hard time holding his cards without showing them to us, so we have to employ a little creative cheating/non-cheating when playing with him. My 1 1/2-year old can even play Go Oink® with us when someone is helping because she can make the animal sounds! The cards are sturdy and mostly durable; we’ve only had one get permanently creased after being sucked on for about 5 minutes by my teething daughter. The illustrations on the cards are colorful and cute and for Go Ape®, are fairly easy to mimic.

play

I would HIGHLY recommend these games to anyone who loves to play games as a family. They are playable for ages 3+ and would even be funny with a group of adults. We have LOVED both games and will continue to play them as long as we can. Seriously, I don’t even mind playing them multiple times a day, unlike some other games I’ve already mentioned 🙂 You can purchase them online or at select brick-and-mortar retailers (JoAnn Fabrics and Sears are some I saw in a quick online search). The games are $9.99 in the cute Ape– or Pig-shaped carrying case, but just the Go Ape® cards by themselves are only $6.99–what a deal! Seriously, go check these games out and have fun with your family tonight!

About a month ago, a crafty friend of mine from down the street mentioned that she’d love to get a group together for a craft night sometime.  Since my husband works an evening shift twice a week, I offered to “host” it at my house after my boys were asleep and asked what I could do to help.  She came up with a few ideas, and we decided on making a cute pendant necklace.  After I did some Pinterest research (my favorite!), I told her that I’d be happy to stop in and pick up the materials since I’d be near the craft store the next day.

I had my list of items and figured that I wouldn’t be very long, so my husband waited with the boys in the van while I ran in.  I ran in, took one look around, and was completely lost.  I started walking toward the jewelry section but didn’t find anything that I needed.  I sort of aimlessly walked the aisles, praying that the materials would start screaming my name so I could end this experience, before asking someone for help.  Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the things that I needed either, and I ended up leaving the store empty-handed.

It’s obviously not a situation I’d like to find myself in again anytime soon, but I had a great time at the craft night that evening (using the materials that my friend found when she went to the exact same craft store the next day…) and I really do like making things that I pin on Pinterest.  My frugal side also screams to me each time I purchase any sort of home décor and think that I’m sure I could create something instead of purchasing it.

In my quest to find the best monthly subscription boxes over the past several months, I came across the Whimseybox website.  One of their ads looked something like the following:

Say what??  This ad was made just for me!  I had to look into this monthly subscription a little further…

“Get started making again with our $15/month craft subscription box to the best in DIY and craft.  You will receive a new DIY craft project each month with the materials and instructions necessary. Follow our tips and techniques or make it your own way.”

I received my first Whimseybox last month, and I loved the project — DIY peppermint lip balm!!  This kit included beeswax, castor oil, peppermint essential oil, stirring sticks, a pipette, 3 tins, and an instructional card — along with a 5 x 7 art print and a reusable box.  Everything I needed was right in the box, and I didn’t have to travel to the craft store 20 minutes away to only come out empty-handed.  I was able to make up three of these lip balms one afternoon during our quiet/nap time, and I have them ready to deliver to three women I visit each month from our church.

This was a fun activity that made me feel crafty and not frustrated at all!  While it’s perfect for a novice crafter like myself, I’m sure that there are some ways to spiff up these lip balms for those crafters with more experience.  🙂

In addition to the monthly subscription Whimseybox, the website is just introducing their new Whimseybox SHOP that offers free shipping through the end of July!  You can purchase the same DIY Peppermint Lip Balm box that I received, and there are other craft kits and craft materials available in categories such as paper crafting, jewelry making, sewing, scrapbooking, home décor, and bath and body.

When you complete your DIY projects and are looking for a place to share your finished creations, the Whimseybox COMMUNITY provides the perfect place to post your new creations along with any other new project ideas that you might have!  This is also a great place to find inspiration and new projects.

During the summer months, I’m always amazed by how much we drink during the day.  The boys are always constantly asking for lemonade and filling their cups with water (that they actually drink!), and I’m right behind them with my water bottle.  I made the grave mistake of bringing home a 12-pack of soda the other day, and that just made things worse — I was drinking all day long and craving more, but I never felt like my thirst was quenched.

I know that water is the best for our family to drink, but there are times when I want something with a little more flavor for variety.  Karma Wellness Water is a delicious line of natural, nutrient-enhanced water formulated for your mind, body, spirit, balance, and vitality (which happens to be the names of the five varieties)!  We loved the different flavors and especially loved that we could mix the drink immediately with the push of a button on the top of the cap.

“The driving force behind Karma is the fact that water-soluble vitamins lose their potency while sitting in water or when they are exposed to moisture. Additionally, vitamins suffer degradation when they are subjected to UV rays, oxygen, or heat. The loss of strength is greater when the vitamin contents are spread across the full contents of bottled beverages, causing premixed vitamin drinks to lose their potency over time. This is the challenge we see with many current wellness drinks on the market.

With Karma, we’re hoping to make a healthy decision easy. All five functional varieties contain 110 percent (or more) of the recommended daily allowances of vitamins A, B3
, B5, B6, B12, D, and E, and the vitamins and nutrients are protected in a KarmaCap until the consumer is ready to drink. At that point, they just push, peel, and shake to turn water into wellness, as seen in this video:”

I received a set of Mary Kay’s Satin Hands when I graduated from high school, but I didn’t really get the hype about it at the time.  I asked a friend if she wanted the set, and she was overjoyed and snatched it up.  Strike one.  I then received another set of Mary Kay’s Satin Hands for my bridal shower, and again, didn’t even try the set before I passed it along to another friend, who, amazingly enough, was also overjoyed and snatched it right up.  Strike two.  When I received yet one more set of Mary Kay’s Satin Hands for a baby shower, I figured that I should at least try it out and see what my friends from years past had been so excited about.

Oh.  My.  Glory.  Goodness.

I absolutely loved the set, and I used it throughout the rest of my pregnancy and through part of the dry winter before it ran out and I got more for my birthday.  And kept it that time, too.  🙂

The only downfall to the Satin Hands set is that it can really only be used on your hands.  I tried once using it on my body, but it didn’t turn out as well as I had envisioned.  I’ve been looking for something since then that would work for my legs and arms, and then I came across Simone France Skincare.

main

Simone France Skincare offers a unique cleansing method that uses classic French skincare products, but the service that stood out to me was the individual, one-on-one skincare consultation that anyone can use, even if you choose not to purchase from Simone France.   After receiving a skin care diagnosis from Simone France which explains the reasons for your skin problems and outlines at-home steps you can take, Simone France also provides a suggestion of products to use.  In addition, you can search by Skin Concerns  or by Your Skin Type to find the specific products that apply to your skin issues.

Body Duo

Simone France Skincare sent me the Body Duo shown above that comes with an 8 oz. jar of Body Buff and an 8 oz. bottle of Body Glow to review, and I LOVE it just as much (if not more!) than the Satin Hands set.  Both items for exfoliation and then for moisturizing and protection have the perfect texture without feeling to harsh, and the scent isn’t overpowering. This set can be used everyday, and the Body Buff currently resides next to my bathtub.  🙂

handwich

Simone France Skincare also makes a set called the Handwich that includes soap, Refining Scrub, and Soft Hands RX specifically for exfoliating, moisturizing, and protecting your hands.

mask

My eye also caught the Deep Moisture Mask that works well for moisturizing skin that has been affected by dry weather over this past (very long…) winter.

daily facial

Simone France, though, is best known for the Sandwich Daily Facial Package that offers deep pore cleansing, mild exfoliation and ideal moisturizing in just 2 minutes a day.

With the weather changing from the harsh, cold, dry winter to gorgeous spring days, take a look at Simone French Skincare to help make the transition easier or to add that extra boost to glowing skin.

If you’re still looking for a gift that is practical but meaningful, you might consider heading over to Beauty Encounter to check out their products!

They have skincare, hair care, bath and body, items for the home, and perfumes and colognes.

I was sent Ralph Lauren Hot, and I loved the scent.  It was strong enough to last the whole day, but wasn’t overwhelming or powerful.  Even though it’s more of a summer scent, the “Sensual Mocha Cream, Spicy Cinnamon, Luscious Maple” seemed to make this perfume to work in other seasons (such as fall when I’ve been using it!).

I also have Terre D’Hermes to give to my husband for Christmas this year (shh!), but I did try it out.  On my own wrist.  Without completely thinking.  Let’s just say that the scent is very manly and should not be worn on my wrist.  :(  I’m sure, though, that I’ll love it on my husband.  🙂
