We’ve been lucky in our family to not have many allergies or skin sensitivities — we can pretty much use any sort of laundry detergent, diaper, soap, cleaner or other skincare/household product without worrying about it affecting us or our children.  A friend of mine, though, had a daughter with severe eczema that would flare up from time to time out of nowhere; on top of that, her daughter also had food allergies that could cause skin issues if she even touched the food (or something containing that food).

I’ve often thought about how different her life is from mine, especially as we discussed sending our children to preschool — while I was concerned about my son obeying the teacher, following directions, and getting along with other children, she worried about the types of fabric softeners that other children had on her clothes, if someone would inadvertently forget to take out the peanut butter crackers in their kids’ backpacks, and that there would be someone who was trained (and willing!) to use an Epi-pen if needed.  I immediately thought of this friend and her family when I learned about EvaOlivia Organics and the organic, homemade products that they offer that can ease skin sensitivities.EvaOlivia-Organics-logo-wit

“Several years ago, two new parents began making soap in their kitchen in an effort to produce a cleansing soap that was gentle enough for their daughter who was born prematurely and with very sensitive skin.  Guided by the recipes their grandparents and great grandparents used, they blended various herbs and flowers from their own organic garden into their soap mixtures.  This soap became the only soap the family used (it still is!) and it addressed the sensitivity issue for their daughter.”

“EvaOlivia soaps are made completely from scratch using the cold process method, with raw ingredients and recipes created based on the craft our grandmothers and great grandmothers used to make ‘lye soap’.  Our soap is hand poured and hand cut.  This is soapmaking in the tradition of our ancestors.  Today, our soap is made with the same love and care that inspired our original bars of unscented soap, then lavender, then other varieties.”

EvaOlivia’s soap line currently includes:

When I was contacted by EvaOlivia Organics about doing a review of their products, I said that I would love to and didn’t see anything on the website that I wouldn’t like to try, which fairly rare for me since I can usually pinpoint a few items that catch my eye.  I’m so glad that I didn’t specify anything — I loved the surprises and the scents/products that I probably wouldn’t have chosen on my own!

We were sent two bottles of the Bath & Shower Gel, three Individual Bar Soaps, and one Body Butter.  I LOVE the oils that are found in the Bath & Shower Gels that seems to linger on my skin much longer than other soaps, and the scents (Sweet Shea and Citrus Magic) are perfect for summertime.  The Individual Bar Soaps are an item that I probably wouldn’t have chosen on my own since I feel like bar soaps can have a clammy feel and can leave my skin flaky and dry, but these bar soaps from EvaOlivia Organics didn’t have that effect at all!  I liked the oatmeal in the bar that, again, left my skin feeling soft after leaving the shower.

The Body Butter, though, was my absolute favorite!  This didn’t surprise me that much, as I’ve loved using thick body butters on my feet during the summer when I live in my flip flops — my surprise came from the Lemongrass scent that I never would have chosen on my own but have ended up LOVING!  I overheard a girl in my husband’s unit once comment that lemongrass smelled like lime jello to her, but I didn’t find that to be the case at all.  I’ve mentioned before that I love anything lemon (scent, flavor, etc.), and the lemongrass just added a softness to the tart lemon by itself.

We just got back from the Midwest where we were celebrating birthdays, eating Kansas City barbecue (the best!), and spending time with lots of family.  In the middle of all of that, though, we ran into a couple of nasty storms and were a little concerned that our flights might be delayed.  Well, we didn’t have any problems with our flights and, in fact, we stepped off the plane here in North Carolina to gorgeous 70 degree weather at 7:00 p.m. in the evening!  The weather for our area shows that same 70 degree weather for the next 10 days, so I switched out the boys’ winter clothes for spring/summer clothes this evening and have officially welcomed spring!

After living in the California desert for three years, I have most enjoyed the scents that are associated with spring as the weather changes here in North Carolina.  I love the flowers blooming and the abundance of different fruits, which bring such amazing scents into my house and every time I step outside. When I discovered Daisy Natural Skin Care, I was most drawn to the variety of scents that are available for the skin care Jean Marie creates.  Scents like Tahitian Vanilla, Lavender, and Tangerine Grapefruit are in perfect tandem with the springtime season!

main

Daisy Natural Skin Care offers handcrafted soaps, body butters, balms, and scrubs. Our products are made from high quality ingredients that are good for your skin. We promise to avoid “chemicals of concern” as defined by The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (safecosmetics.org). We never test on animals (we love our pets!), and we only buy raw materials from suppliers who pledge the same.  We also offer vegan and fragrance free items.”

I was sent a few items to review, and I have loved every single one of them.  As soon as the package arrived on my doorstep, I opened each of the products just to smell the scents and then placed each item strategically around my house for use.

 almond

Ever since I was in about the seventh grade, I have always had some sort of lip balm in my pocket, backpack, or purse for my incredibly dry and chapped lips.  I placed my tube of Almond Lip Balm on my nightstand for quick use after brushing my teeth and right before going to bed.  The lip balm applies easily and isn’t waxy, and the scent isn’t overbearing.  This lip balm costs $3, which is incredibly reasonable!

butter

I used body butter for the first time when I was in a store in the mall about 10 years, and I remember thinking that the product could not have been more correctly named – it feels just like butter!  This Moonlight Pomegranate Whipped Avocado Butter is thick and smooth, and I have loved using this on my arms and legs just after jumping out of the shower.  I keep it in my bathroom vanity and have been known to sneak in throughout the day to put some on my hands, if not for the soothing cream then for the amazing scent.  Even better, this body butter is offered for only $9!

tangerine

This Tangerine Grapefruit Shea Butter Soap could not be more perfect for spring!  The scent leans toward a more subdued citrus and  isn’t too “fruity” at all.  The ridges on the bar were perfect for my feet in the bathtub, and I loved the subtle but noticeable scent that lingered on my skin throughout the day.  The soaps from Daisy Natural Skin Care only cost $6.50 and have already lasted me a couple of weeks with lots of use left.

vanilla

This Tahitian Vanilla Lotion Stick, though, has been my favorite skin care product, hands down.  I put it in my purse and didn’t think much more about it until I was sitting in the airport (without my liquids) and needed something for my hands.  I pulled this out, and it couldn’t have been easier to apply!  The stick (similar to lip balm in its application) is creamy and doesn’t flake apart, and the scent was also my favorite of the products I received.  I agree wholeheartedly with the description for the scent:  “Tahitian Vanilla is a light, floral scent, with a hint of sweetness. It doesn’t have that sickly sweet smell that a lot of vanilla products have, so those of you who aren’t into the baked good scents may want to give this one a try.”  These lotion sticks come in a variety of scents and only cost $7!

Daisy Natural Skin Care is offering special coupon code for Dandy readers!  The code DANDY15 is good for 15% off $15 or more and will be available through 05/11/13!

Daisy Natural Skin Care is also offering a gift set (soap, body butter, and lip balm) for a giveaway to our Dandy readers!  The soap and the body butter will be the same scent, and the choices are White Ginger & Amber, Tahitian Vanilla, Moonlight Pomegranate, Chai Tea, Sweet Pea, Lavender, or Fragrance Free. The lip balm choices are Plain, French Vanilla, and Almond.
