The Birthday Times {Giveaway} – CLOSED

When we were Skyping with my mom the other night, she told my four-year-old that Papa will be turning 50 years old this year — and now, it’s all he can talk about!  He mentions it randomly in the car, when we’re running errands, during dinner, whenever he gets a chance.  He thinks it’s just the coolest thing.

For a milestone birthday like this one, we’d love to get something memorable that would show him how much the world has changed.  The Birthday Times is a great gift for anyone to see what exactly was happening the day he/she was born!

Happy 1st Birthday

Her eyes were transfixed!

One year ago yesterday, on December 27, 2011, our lives changed forever around the Smith household.  We were blessed with the birth of our little Ruby!  Her arrival came completely unexpected.  She was an entire month early and now I’m late with her birthday posting…   This year has flown by and she is literally the sweetest baby girl I have ever known.  If you remember when she was born she spent about 5 hours in the NICU.  Not because she was so early (she was actually very healthy), but because she wouldn’t cry at all!  She didn’t cry when she was born and remained quiet for hours after.  To this day she is the most mellow little girl and is just really happy most of the time.  She is such a sweetheart and a delight to have in our family.  We are extremely blessed.  Stay tuned for another posting on her big birthday bash, because the party of the year is happening tomorrow!!!

We all have some level of friends in life.  Some have many.  Others have only a few.  Some keep in touch with friends from the past.  Others find new friends often.  Whatever the level of friend a person has the friendship is always unique.  Special to them.  Important.  I met my first friend on August 2, 1978.  She and I are still the best of friends who speak to each other almost every day.  That’s a long time to have a friend!  My first friend has been there for me throughout childhood, the teen years, and the rocky times of my young adulthood.  She nurtured my love of reading.  She encouraged me to write, participate in athletics, and excel in school.  She put an emphasis on my going to college.  She walked in the pouring rain on my wedding day to find a tow truck when the car I was driving got a flat tire.  My first friend was in the hospital labor and delivery waiting room when I gave birth to my children.  Both in San Antonio and St. Louis.  She helped me to take care of a newborn while I was recovering.  She taught me how to be a mother.  Friends like that don’t come along very often.  Only once.  I owe her everything.  She is my first friend and my forever friend.

My first friend was diagnosed with cancer the week after Ruby was born.  Now it’s time for me to be there for her.  She has fought hard and is currently in remission.  Today is my first friend’s birthday.  Mom, thank you for being my first friend.  I love you so very, very much.

I am smack dab in the middle of a lot of gift-buying for a lot of different occasions right now!  I have four friends who will be having babies within the next month, family members of all ages will be celebrating birthdays, a sweet couple we knew from our last duty station just bought a new home, and then, of course, Christmas is right around the corner!  I like to give thoughtful, unique gifts, but my favorite thing is being able to give thoughtful, unique gifts that I can buy online (in my pajamas…in the middle of the night…while I eat a second bowl of chocolate ice cream…) and ship directly to the receiver.  **I’m on the East coast and most of my family/close friends live on the West coast, and, unfortunately, I have yet to master the art of going to the post office.  🙁

Enter Lou, Babs, and Moogs Gifts!

They have amazing gifts for almost any occasion, and their prices are incredibly reasonable!

A birthday comes but once a year, and oh how it never comes soon enough for a little kid!  What is it that makes parents want to throw their child one magically fantastic party every year?!   I find myself limited on time, money, and resources, but I still want birthdays to always be magical and memorable in our house!

Birthday Express is a great place to go for birthdays if you want to save yourself time thinking of some creative theme and then shopping for every piece you’ll need.  Their extensive selection of birthday packages will please both mother and child.

I know sometimes its hard to even come up with the best “theme” for the party.  Birthday Express makes it easy.  You can shop by boy or girl, 1st and 2nd birthday themes, or a large list of various things you could be looking for.  You also can buy party basics, like the balloons or favors, instead of an entire party pack.

“Rocket” likes a lot of things, but I knew a basketball party would be a dream come true for him.  We picked out the Basketball Fan Birthday Deluxe Party Pack, and got to work filling out the basketball invitations!

The party pack included 8 invitations, dinner plates, cups, forks, spoons, solid-color activity placemats, 16 lunch napkins, centerpiece, tablecover, foil balloon, 18 balloons (3 colors), curling ribbon (3 colors), crepe paper rolls (3 colors), confetti and cake candles!

We held the big party last night!  Decorating the house was so much fun!  I was so impressed with the amount of decorating supplies that came with the kit!  Streamers, balloons, curling ribbon!  What a transformation!

I most appreciated the full set of plates, cups, utensils, and napkins.  Doing the dishes was the last thing I wanted to be doing at the party!

The icing on the cake was the confetti and candles also included in the party pack.  Birthday Express thought of everything!

It truly was a treat to be able to open the box and have everything I needed for a party, except for presents and the guests!

What a success!  Thank you Birthday Express for making “Rocket’s” 2nd birthday party one that we will all remember!

My friend Shannon owns the coolest modern fabric shop in the entire country and it’s right here in St. Louis.  Fabric Nosherie has been around for one year now, so yesterday they threw a party.  Of course I attended and of course is was a grand time.  I got some holiday shopping done for my sewing family and friends.  And…  Fabric/pattern designer Patty Young was there and she gave a very impressive lecture.  She talked about how she got started in the business and shared some of her favorites from her pattern book Sewing MODKID Style.  Loved it!

 Happy Birthday to The Nosh!

Maybe one day Shannon will want to do a guest post on the Dandy with a sewing tutorial or something???  Maybe.  😉
