Beach Rays {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Its FINALLY summer!  Legitimately.  We’re hitting up the beach nearly every day, since we live just a block from the beautiful Revere Beach.  Good thing we have some killer swimsuits this season!  Beach Rays so generously sent me and my son a swimsuit from their new collection, and we took them out last weekend.  We reviewed the Pamela suit in Red and the boys’ Gelato suit, sold for $119 and $36.

us

I love a lot of things about this red suit.  I think the style is classic and beautiful, while still being extremely slimming.  I have a LOT of middle tummy fluff leftover from two pregnancies, but it is camouflaged quite well with this so-geniously placed rusching in the front.  After seeing for myself how this really hides and slims, I’m never going back to a flat/smooth front swimsuit again.

red

Now, while I love the cut and the style, there is still a major issue that is going to inhibit me from wearing this suit again, and I think it only affects my well-endowed sisters.  In a bigger size with bigger cups on this suit, the underwire has difficulty staying in place.  The halter top straps naturally pull the sides of the suit in at an angle toward the neck, and so the underwire ends rub against eachother, usually overlapping.  There is very little structure when it comes to the bust part of this suit, especially because it is a halter with no support that wraps entirely around your body.  I hope this is just a problem for this Size 10 suit, and for busty girls.  I do think that this won’t be a problem in the smaller sizes on girls with small busts to contain.

Rocket’s suit is adorable, though!  We reviewed a suit for him last summer, so I knew how the Beach Rays sizing ran.  Last year, we ordered a size 3T for our 2-year-old, and it was pretty snug.  This year, we ordered a size 6 for the now 3-year-old, and it fits him great, with room to last him the summer.  So keep in mind that their trunks run quite small if you have a chunk of a boy yourself.

I love these colors together and I love the color blocking!  It makes this suit look much less juvenile in my opinion.

The back pocket is my favorite part!  I love the contrast color on the drawstring waistband and how it makes the waistband adjustable for a perfect fit.L

There are SO many cute/fashionable/manly/girly suits to choose from on the Beach Rays site.  You could surely find favorites for the whole family at Beach Rays and look coordinatingly dashing at the beach this summer!  Check em out!

I love clothes. Let’s just put it out there. We don’t have a very big shopping budget and I rarely buy clothes “just because,” so for almost every birthday and Christmas I ask for money to buy clothes! My style has changed throughout the years (though I still own some of the same tops and skirts from before college), but one thing that has remained the same is my love for color. I love pieces that are bright, cheery and fun!

Fresh Produce is my kind of company–they manufacture clothes that are bright, colorful, comfortable AND made in the USA! They have an impressive line of Women’s clothes, including Plus Sizes, and a beautiful Girls collection. Their clothes are definitely beachy/coastal inspired, and I think when I retire I want to live in a beach house and wear nothing but Fresh Produce clothing every day. Along with clothes, they also carry Accessories such as Jewelry, Hats and Bags, and fun things for the Home. Here is just a sampling of the bright, cheery items they carry:

So after all this talk of color, you’d think I would have chosen something bright and colorful to review, right? Well, I wanted to. Actually, I had a really hard time choosing something to review because there were so many great choices! I knew I wanted a skirt and there were several I had my eye on (all in fun, vibrant colors). But when I saw the Hepburn Long Pencil Skirt, it came down to necessity–I was in need of a good, black pencil skirt, and this one looked perfect.

skirt

The skirt itself is lovely. The material is thick and stretchy (i.e. comfy!) but not cheap-looking. It is nicely tailored with a small kick-pleat in the back (a must with any pencil skirt, right?). The length was a little short for the “long” skirt, but I was okay with it (if you wear it high-waisted it hits right at the knee). What I was (sadly) not okay with was the fit. I looked at the measurements on the size chart and ordered a Small since that was about where my measurements and size range fell. Unfortunately, since it is stretchy, it fit fine (like I wasn’t squeezing into it) but it was too tight and clingy on my (big runner’s) booty. I know some people go for that look, but I just don’t. I was super bummed (no pun intended) that I couldn’t use my skirt, but luckily I have a friend who is about a size smaller than me who was in need of a good pencil skirt, too!

Girl

Here’s what she had to say: “What I liked best about this skirt was that the knit material is nice enough to be dressed up, but comfortable enough that you could wear it all day.  It was fitted, without being too tight, and stretchy enough that I could choose to wear it high-waisted or lower on my hips. The waistband is nice and wide, so I chose to add a belt just for looks.”

Girl 2

Bottom line (seriously, I’m not trying to make all these butt jokes!), if you’re getting something in a stretch fabric, think about possibly ordering a size larger than you normally would to account for the stretch factor. But these are great clothes in awesome color choices and fun styles and I totally recommend them. Fresh Produce clothing can be purchased online, at Fresh Produce Retail Stores, and at select boutiques and independent retailers throughout the country. Their prices are slightly higher than most stores, but that’s the price you pay to support things made in the USA! They also have a great Sale section where you can find their clothes up to 50% off! But lucky for YOU, Fresh Produce is offering one lucky winner the chance to pick ONE clothing item for free–good luck choosing just one!

When it comes to sandals, I have always owned the cheapest, thinnest, floppiest flip-flops. They’re usually cute and they match my outfits wonderfully, but they’re usually horribly uncomfortable. I have really flat feet so after wearing a thin pair of sandals all day, my feet and back will ache like crazy. So I’ve always wanted a great, supportive  pair of sandals, but all I could ever find were the sporty types that weren’t all that cute. But finally, I have found a pair that are not only cute but also comfortable and supportive!

Okabashi shoes are so much more than regular sandals. They are 100% recyclable, 100% U.S. made, and they stand behind their products with a  two-year guarantee on any of their shoes. They’ve been around since 1984, and in 2009, the company launched a post-consumer recycling program, which allows customers to send in their shoes to the factory to be recycled. They have plenty of shoe styles to choose from, including men’s and women’s designs of sandals and flip-flops, so there’s sure to be a design that suits everyone’s tastes. The Classic Flip Flop features a classic design and comes in 16 colors, including Teal, Grass Green and Pomegranate:

This design, the Women’s Wave, could easily transition from strolling in the sand to walking the boardwalk to eating in a beach-side restaurant with no problems:

Okabashi also has a complete line of men’s shoes. This design, the Men’s Indigo, is my favorite:
mens indigoI was sent the Women’s Indigo in Black/Zebra. The Indigo is a new design this year and they have all sorts of cute combinations like Brown/Giraffe and Black/Yellow Stripe. I liked the Black/Zebra combo because they are neutral enough to go with anything, but the zebra pattern adds just a touch of fun to every outfit I wear them with.
feet

My favorite feature of these sandals, though, can’t be seen while I’m wearing them. Look at the detailing and support on these babies:

They feel so good on my feet. I can actually wear them around all day, every day and not have a sore back or tired feet at the end of the day. I had to get used to them being heavier than my other flimsy sandals, but it’s been an easy process.  You can read all sorts of testimonials on their website, but I’ll add mine here: they’re supportive, comfortable, and fashionable, and they have definitely made a believer out of me!  Not to mention the price is great; $15.99-$22.99, and right now the Naples is on sale for $9.99! Go check them out on their website, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest!

I know most, if not all, of us contributors on Dandy care about sun exposure and are really paying attention to protecting our skin.  Several of us have experienced firsthand or have family members who have had to get spots removed and have worried about them being cancerous or not.  All I have to say is yikes!  You can never be too careful!  I’ve vowed this summer to really take the effects of too much sun seriously and will be wearing hats while I’m out at the beach.  I’ve been worried about finding something cute enough because the wrong hat in the wrong setting is sometimes too easy to do.  No fear, Dorfman Pacific came to my rescue and asked if I would review one of their fun summer brimmed hats!

dp-logo-bar

Dorfman Pacific is one of the largest full-line, in-stock headwear companies in the world!  They have men’s, women’s, teen’s, and children’s collections of hats, handbags, and even winter accessories.  They have high quality hats for all occasions and style preferences.  Their summer collections are so cute!  Look at these brimmed hats by Tropical Trends:

LP157-ASST_BlogImage

And these terrific visors made by Scala.  These actually roll up into cones, as seen below, to save space in your bag and give you the option of bringing it along just in case you need it, especially because it weights practically nothing.  Both the brimmed hats and the visors retail for $25.   LP54-ASST_BlogImage

I had the privilege of reviewing a brimmed hat with the black detail, and it is definitely a keeper.  The dipped black rim takes this from being a standard floppy hat to something distinguishable with a touch of class.

Untitled-1

The first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box was how NOT scratchy it was.  I was actually expecting something rough and pokey, but this is rather glossy and very flexible.  Comfortable to wear all day, that’s for sure.  I am impressed with the weight–not too heavy so that it won’t weigh your hair down or make you hot and sweaty, but not as light as straw, so I don’t expect it to easily blow away off your head.  VERY durable.  I could leave this crunched in the bottom of my beach bag and it bounces back to shape “at the drop of a hat”, haha.  I crack myself up.

IMG_3960

I took it to the beach (this very afternoon!) and felt so cute wearing it :)  I didn’t think I’d like the twine-like tie around it, but I actually think its pretty cute in person.  I didn’t realize it doubles as a self-sizing tie, so that you can adjust the circumference for a perfect fit.  Sweet!

Besides being adorable, these hats have a UPF Sun protection factor of 50 plus!  This darling is also available in three other colors: black, tea, turquoise, and fuchsia.
