Brylane Home is a fabulous online store with a HUGE selection of window, bedding, bath, kitchen, storage, furniture, large chairs, and entertaining products!  Everything is stylish, functional, and quite affordable.  If you’re newly married, just moved in, or looking to update your home, Brylane Home is such a great place to find everything you need!  I would have LOVED to register here when we got married!

They also carry some great outdoor living products for entertaining guests and relaxing in your own backyard.  These are making me just ache for the day we actually have a backyard!  When I get a back porch, a big umbrella over a table will be one of the first things we get:

1588_21164_mm_0240Check this out: its a Grillzebo! 1588_39326_mm_0188 And wouldn’t this waterproof hexagon gazebo be perfect to set up for a few months out of the year?  Then just disassemble it and store it away after the summer months.  Or leave it up year-round for a shady spot. 1588_64680_mm_1169

It was my pleasure to review Brylane Home’s Folding Camp Rocker!  This chair is originally $139.99, but on sale right now for much cheaper!

We just spent our vacation up in Idaho at my extended family’s cabin in beautiful Island Park.  They just finished a gorgeous addition with the most beautiful back porch, where we spent the majority of our evenings. The weather was perfect!!  Since it was recently completed, we were lounging in camping folding chairs, and oh how I wished I could have brought my new folding rocker!  (We flew, and were limited in luggage, but if we had driven, this would have been the first thing packed!)

When we pulled it out of the bag (which has a helpful reinforced shoulder strap), I was so glad that there was no assembly required!  Just take it out of the bag and pop it open.  This guy is SO comfy.  It is a plus-size chair, so practically any body will feel cozy inside.  I like that my kids can join me on my lap or even beside me in the chair.  The polyester canvas chair material can be spot cleaned, and isn’t rough like some camping chairs can be.

When folded and bagged, it is surprisingly heavy!  But that means only the highest quality materials were used, right?  The frame is metal instead of plastic, which makes for a VERY sturdy chair, one that can hold up to 250 POUNDS!!!  This guy will certainly not blow over at a windy campsite.  The dimensions are 39 ½”H x 37″W x 35″D.

I’m dying to take this on a camping trip!  Wouldn’t it be great?!?

About a month ago, a crafty friend of mine from down the street mentioned that she’d love to get a group together for a craft night sometime.  Since my husband works an evening shift twice a week, I offered to “host” it at my house after my boys were asleep and asked what I could do to help.  She came up with a few ideas, and we decided on making a cute pendant necklace.  After I did some Pinterest research (my favorite!), I told her that I’d be happy to stop in and pick up the materials since I’d be near the craft store the next day.

I had my list of items and figured that I wouldn’t be very long, so my husband waited with the boys in the van while I ran in.  I ran in, took one look around, and was completely lost.  I started walking toward the jewelry section but didn’t find anything that I needed.  I sort of aimlessly walked the aisles, praying that the materials would start screaming my name so I could end this experience, before asking someone for help.  Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the things that I needed either, and I ended up leaving the store empty-handed.

It’s obviously not a situation I’d like to find myself in again anytime soon, but I had a great time at the craft night that evening (using the materials that my friend found when she went to the exact same craft store the next day…) and I really do like making things that I pin on Pinterest.  My frugal side also screams to me each time I purchase any sort of home décor and think that I’m sure I could create something instead of purchasing it.

In my quest to find the best monthly subscription boxes over the past several months, I came across the Whimseybox website.  One of their ads looked something like the following:

Say what??  This ad was made just for me!  I had to look into this monthly subscription a little further…

“Get started making again with our $15/month craft subscription box to the best in DIY and craft.  You will receive a new DIY craft project each month with the materials and instructions necessary. Follow our tips and techniques or make it your own way.”

I received my first Whimseybox last month, and I loved the project — DIY peppermint lip balm!!  This kit included beeswax, castor oil, peppermint essential oil, stirring sticks, a pipette, 3 tins, and an instructional card — along with a 5 x 7 art print and a reusable box.  Everything I needed was right in the box, and I didn’t have to travel to the craft store 20 minutes away to only come out empty-handed.  I was able to make up three of these lip balms one afternoon during our quiet/nap time, and I have them ready to deliver to three women I visit each month from our church.

Lip_Balm_Box-1

This was a fun activity that made me feel crafty and not frustrated at all!  While it’s perfect for a novice crafter like myself, I’m sure that there are some ways to spiff up these lip balms for those crafters with more experience.  🙂

In addition to the monthly subscription Whimseybox, the website is just introducing their new Whimseybox SHOP that offers free shipping through the end of July!  You can purchase the same DIY Peppermint Lip Balm box that I received, and there are other craft kits and craft materials available in categories such as paper crafting, jewelry making, sewing, scrapbooking, home décor, and bath and body.

When you complete your DIY projects and are looking for a place to share your finished creations, the Whimseybox COMMUNITY provides the perfect place to post your new creations along with any other new project ideas that you might have!  This is also a great place to find inspiration and new projects.

MicroDry Kitchen Mat {Giveaway}–CLOSED

The Kitchen. It’s simultaneously the best and worst place in the house. Best because that’s where all the food is stored, prepared and eaten. Worst because after the food is prepared and eaten it all has to be cleaned up. Doing dishes is probably my least favorite “wifely duty,” and we have a dishwasher, so I know I really can’t complain. Also, my husband and I struck up a deal when we got married that whoever cooked the meal didn’t have to clean up, so I really really can’t complain because I do most of the cooking and therefore the least of the dishes. That said, I still hate doing dishes when I have to. Standing in front of the sink scrubbing pots and pans can feel like hours of monotonous, horrible work, especially if I don’t have anything comfy to stand on. I purchased a squishy kitchen mat from Costco a few years ago, and it helped, but nothing has been as comfy as the Textra Kitchen Mat from MicroDry.
Logo
MicroDry makes products for the home, bath, kitchen, pets and even the beach! Their patented material is a high-density, machine-washable type of memory foam that quickly absorbs moisture, super helpful for things like hair-drying towels and bath mats. And all of their floor mats feature a slip-resistant floor-covering base so that oh-so-comfy mat doesn’t slide out from underneath you and land you on your bottom. You can view and purchase most of their collection on their website or shop their collection at any Bed Bath and Beyond near you.
Mats
I received the New Textra Kitchen Mat in Coffee. I don’t drink coffee, but I think the color was a pretty good match to what coffee looks like. The fabric is soft and smooth to the touch, and according to the website, “the new ‘Textra’ micro-pebbled fabric can now withstand piling, significantly reducing the amount of dirt and small particles trapped on the mat.” I do feel that it still traps a lot of dirt, but a little shake outside or a quick vacuum every few days keeps it looking fresh enough. When I stand on it, it is very squishy, and when I move my feet to another spot, I can still see/feel the indent that my foot left in the previous spot, so I know the memory foam is working. In addition to being soft and comfy to stand on while doing dishes, it is stain-resistant, which is pretty much a must in a household with young kids. The  mat measures 22″ W x 32″ L and fits any standard kitchen sink area. See, look how good it looks in my kitchen!

The Microdry Textra Kitchen Mat is available at  Bed Bath and Beyond for $29.99, but really, do you ever pay full price at that store? They almost always have a 20% off coupon floating around, so go get yourself one for around $25 and you could be smiling while doing the dishes tonight!

Just Hatched 4 Babies {Review}

When I was pregnant with my first son, my mom wanted to throw a baby shower for me from our extended family.  By that point, we really had everything that we needed as far as clothes and gear was concerned, so I asked if she would throw us a “Johnson and Johnson” baby shower.  (Get it?  Johnson and Johnson, because that’s our last name??)  My extended family gave products that would be used for bathtime and bedtime, and I kid you not when I say that we had shampoo, lotion, body wash, baby powder, etc. stocked for the next two years.  It was amazing!  just-hatched-logo

I was introduced to Just Hatched 4 Babies products when I was reading through Parents magazine a couple of months ago, and more than anything, I loved the packaging.  The simplicity of the lines and colors caught my eye, and all of the pieces together creates an amazing look with different colors, sizes, and shapes while also blending together in one piece.

“Being moms ourselves here at Just Hatched, we know how important products of integrity are – especially when babies are involved. I was sent the entire line of these Just Hatched 4 Babies products, and I love all of them!  The scent is light, and I especially love the pump on the shampoo, lotion, and body wash which makes it easy to use with one hand while you’re doing something with another.

I also love the trial/travel packets that were so easy to take with us on the plane last month for our vacation, and I can see lots of use for them as we try to clean up from playing at the beach and the pool this summer.

The cost of these products is incredibly reasonable, with no price higher than $3.99 — along with the coupon code, there’s no reason to not try out the Just Hatched 4 Babies products!  🙂

If you’re still looking for a gift that is practical but meaningful, you might consider heading over to Beauty Encounter to check out their products!

They have skincare, hair care, bath and body, items for the home, and perfumes and colognes.

I was sent Ralph Lauren Hot, and I loved the scent.  It was strong enough to last the whole day, but wasn’t overwhelming or powerful.  Even though it’s more of a summer scent, the “Sensual Mocha Cream, Spicy Cinnamon, Luscious Maple” seemed to make this perfume to work in other seasons (such as fall when I’ve been using it!).

I also have Terre D’Hermes to give to my husband for Christmas this year (shh!), but I did try it out.  On my own wrist.  Without completely thinking.  Let’s just say that the scent is very manly and should not be worn on my wrist.  :(  I’m sure, though, that I’ll love it on my husband.  🙂
