We have been cloth diapering since last August, and I have to say that it has truly been a learning curve. Initially, we started as a way to save money, but it quickly became a way of life for us. I mean, there’s something to be said about living a life of self sustainability, am I right? Also, those late night “Oh no we’re out of diaper” charade was getting a bit old, so we decided to pull the ole plug and go cloth. And we haven’t looked back ever since.

Our stash has a mixture of all different diapers, but our favorites are the bumGenius 4.o, so naturally I wanted to shout from the rooftops how much I adore them. Because, that’s what my life has come to. Diaper excitement. Oh the life of a mom.

I’m not going to lie. Building a cloth diaper stash was not cheap. But I learned some super valuable lessons in the process. For instance, that age old lesson “you get what you pay for” really makes sense. I started out buying a ton of diapers that were cheaply made and they really did work for a bit, but I quickly learned that their inner PUL layer (the layer that makes them waterproof) on the inexpensive brands began to wear out and cause leaks and I’m all like ” Houston, We have a problem” because well , wet boys are unhappy boys. And that is  not cool.

So I bucked up and tried the bumGenius 4.0 and immediately I was a changed woman. From the amazing craftsmanship to the  extra wide organic  inserts( that you can stuff to be thinner with just one or thicker with both inserts) and their snap down exteriors that can be sized to fit babies 7-35+ pounds. You can choose to buy the Aplix (Velcro) style or the Snap style. Since my guy is master Houdini when it comes to diaper escape magic, I chose to go with the snap style, as they are harder for little hands to open.  Bottom line: these diapers are meant for heavy duty. Or maybe I should say “Heavy Dooty“.

Now I don’t have any experience using cloth diapers on a smaller baby (that review experience is due to arrive in May),  but these diapers did a great job with my one and a half year old, who is a heavy wetter. bumGenius could even handle the over nights! And since they are so well made, they hold up for multiple babies. That means that although the initial price is a bit higher at $17.95 per diaper, they are able to last through multiple children. You really get your moneys worth with the bumGenius 4.0.

Oh, and the colors! I mean, is there anything cuter than a tiny hine-y in a rainbow assortment of colors? This diaper I reviewed is shown in the color Mirror. It’s the perfect blue-green to brighten up even the stinkiest of days (yes folks I’ll be here all night, rocking these puns). What’s even more amazing is knowing that your baby isn’t sitting around in unnecessary chemicals that can be found in disposable diapers, and that you are saving serious dough. Truly it’s a win-win. Plus it can handle the jumpy excitement of a two year old. I can honestly say that these diapers are legit.

The two year old jump jump test. bumGenius passed with flying colors.

bumGenius also makes an array of diapering accessories, such as laundry detergant (which I highly recommend) and neat things like diaper sprayers that attach easily (I did it myself) to the side of your toilet for easy clean up!

If you’re interested in learning more about cloth diapering I urge you to visit their Official Store. Also follow any new updates and check out diaper facts but “liking” the bumGenius Facebook page and “following” bumGenius on Twitter.

I have some of the older (3.0) Bumgenius diapers, but wondered how they might compare with the newer version. It looks like the 4.0 is a bit bigger because of how well it fits your two-year-old. Bumgenius was one of my favorite cloth diapers with my first baby, so I’d love to try out the 4.0 with baby #2 due in a few months. Thanks for a great review!
