I’ve been lucky over the years to not have to worry much about my skin.  I escaped my teenage years unscathed by acne or flare-ups, and I’m the white, pasty person on the beach or pool slathering herself with SPF 50 baby sunscreen every 90 minutes so I don’t get burned.  However, this summer has been quite the shocker!  My first trimester of pregnancy brought some of the worst acne I’ve ever had in my life, and my freckles have been quite showy over the last several weeks since we’re outside almost every day.

I was contacted by Renew Skin Solutions about a review of their products, and I was a little surprised to find that Renew Skin Solutions is actually a brick-and-mortar dermatology practice that offers their products in their online store.  “Our collection of skin care products are selected to give you the best possible results for all your skincare needs. We offer Obagi, Skin Medica, Glytone, Vivite, and other skin care lines. Latisse and the Clarisonic Cleansing Brush may be purchased in our store. Questions? Email us or come in for attentive service and informed answers. Free shipping available on most orders!”  I explained some of my skin concerns and was sent a surprise box of skin care that would best fit my needs.

elta

Elta MD UV Physical SPF 41 — An oil-free, tinted, physical sunscreen for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Cosmetically elegant zinc and titanium dioxide prevent sun damage from UV rays while providing a water-resistant finish.

This facial sunscreen came at the perfect time!  On top of my other skincare woes lately, I got an especially bad burn on my nose and cheeks right at the beginning of summer because I thought that the SPF level/sunscreen from my make-up foundation would have been enough to protect me during our (cloudy) day at the beach.  Not so much. At all.  Instead, I burnt bright red, blistered, and then started peeling — and this process lasted for about three weeks.  🙁  This sunscreen is lightly tinted, but I don’t find that it’s tinted enough for me right now.  I can wear it under my foundation for now, and I look forward to trying it alone in the fall and winter when I don’t need as much coverage to even my skin tone and freckles.

obagi

Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel — Natural extracts and herbs aid in deeply cleansing the skin, leaving it feeling cleaner then ever and totally refreshed. Excess debris and oil are removed without stripping your skin or leaving it feeling dry. Ideal for combination to oily skin types.

I was open to trying just about anything when my normal skin care routine was so obviously NOT working for me several weeks ago, but this foaming gel was a little too drying for my already extremely dry skin.  I was hoping that it might counteract with the humidity outside, but I really needed extra moisturizer to go with this product.  As it mentions in the description, I felt like it would be ideal for combination to oily skin types.
