My first son was born a month early and spent about a week in the NICU before being able to come home with us.  I remember being so excited to finally get to take him home with us, but I had NO IDEA that there would be so many classes and trainings we would have to finish in order to be checked out of both the hospital and the NICU.  One piece of information that stood out to me, though, was the swaddling techniques that they taught in order to keep babies feeling secure and warm.

I, of course, was on board with keeping my baby secure and not having his limbs flailing while he was trying to sleep, but I was not concerned at all about keeping him warm.  In fact, I was concerned about the exact opposite thing — keeping him cool!  On the day that we drove home from Palm Springs, California, in the middle of September, the temperature was 105 degrees.  Even though we had the AC cranked down in our home and fans going day and night, I tried as much as I could to find thin receiving blankets that would not increase his body temperature any more than it already was in the hot desert.

I learned about aden + anais blankets about a year ago from a friend of mine, and I only wish that I would have known about these thin, breathable swaddling blankets earlier!  My second son was born in April and was fine to have thicker blankets, but this third one will be arriving next month to (most likely) heat and humidity.  I can’t wait to use aden + anais swaddling blankets for him!

“As a young woman growing up in Australia, our founder Raegan Moya-Jones was introduced to many traditional practices of motherhood. One of them in particular– swaddling babies in generously sized, gentle muslin sheets– amazed her. Even the fussiest babies seemed to sleep more peacefully in muslin. Despite the hot days and the cold nights, muslin swaddles helped keep babies comfortable. And, most importantly, the very act of swaddling seemed to build a bond between mothers and their babies.

When she moved to the U.S. and started her own family, Raegan couldn’t find any swaddles like the ones she remembered from home. The only swaddles available were too small. Or made of much-too-thick flannel. Or, simply, unattractive.  And so, aden + anais was born. And within months of hitting the market, aden + anais swaddles starting popping up in magazines, on blogs for new mothers, in virtually every celebrity gift registry, and in stores around the country.

Today, aden + anais, has brought the legacy of muslin together with fashion forward design to create a line of products that are as stylish as they are useful; and as simple as they are beautiful. We believe in muslin– the way it looks, the way it feels, the way it works– to improve the lives of babies and their mothers no matter who they are or where they live.”

We received the liam the brave / classic muslin collection 4-pack of swaddling blankets, and I LOVE them!  The designs were adorable while still looking classy (I can’t get over the cute paper airplane design on one of them!), and the blankets were large with thin but sturdy muslin material.  My boys helped me open the package in anticipation for these products that mom was so excited to get, and they each snatched up a blanket and have slept with them at night…just because!  🙂

I’ve washed them in preparation for use, and they are already softer; I’m happy to know that washing them will only improve the material and won’t take away any of the great qualities.  In addition to using these for swaddling babies, Swaddles can also be used as a nursing cover, carseat canopy, tummy time blanket, stroller cover, or a burp cloth.  (And, if we end up with another spitter like our first son, we’ll need something this large again!)  In our attempt to downsize for our move overseas at the beginning of the new year, I’ve been scouting out products that are multi-functional so we don’t have to take as many things; these Swaddles are perfect!

While aden + anais has always been synonymous with swaddling blankets for me, I was thrilled to see all of the other products that they offer in this same soft muslin material!

boy in blue / cozy sleeping bags

moonlight- leafy / bamboo burpy bib®

splish splash hooded towel & washcloth / towel & washcloth sets

hair + body wash (12oz) / mum + bub™ skin care

for the birds – medallion / classic dream blankets

azure leafy / bamboo crib sheets

up up and away – elephant / classic changing pad covers

I was highly impressed with the size and the material of these aden + anais swaddling blankets that I received, so I imagine that I would feel the same way about any of their products.  I would highly recommend these swaddling blankets and aden + anais!
