Apostolic Clothing {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Do you ever feel like all the cute dresses are super short and/or show a lot of skin?  Unfortunately, I do – and while I adore dressing up, I’m just not comfortable showing that much skin.  (I’m no spring chicken over here). To make matters worse so much of the clothing marketed as “modest” looks like someone shot the couch. *cringe* *shutter*   But really, if you want a skirt that covers your knees and a dress that has sleeves and no major (reveling) cutout, your options are pretty limited and generally pretty bland. (Thank goodness for maxi dresses right?).

Anyway I came across an ad for Apostolic Clothing and I was sucked in like sand and a shop vacuum.  There is such a thing as stylish modern clothing that also doesn’t make me look like an 80 year old grandma???

Apostolic Clothing is amazing!  All of their clothes will keep you covered but for once you don’t have to sacrifice your sense of style to wear a dress. (They even have a bunch of stylish plus size clothing!) and cute vintage looks to boot. Here is a little preview of what I’m talking about:

I couldn’t wait to work with Apostolic Clothing, and I was so excited about the review I literately had their site up for two days while I was narrowing down my options for a review item.  Toward the end when I had my list narrowed down to four options I finally had to have my husband wight in. Ha!

I’ve seen these tulle skirts around and I think they are dreamy. I was thrilled at the chance to review one, and the opportunity to channel my inner ballerina.

The skirt has six layers, one very wide tulle layers, four more narrow tulle layers and one satin like layer that reaches just below your knees on the very inside of the skirt so the whole thing isn’t see through. The top of the skirt has the tulle folded over an elastic band.

One thing to note is the skirt is a one side fits all, which always makes me a little concerned.  I thought it seemed a bit tight when I first pulled it on, but I didn’t notice it being uncomfortable or pressing while I was wearing it.  The skirt is also really full (which I love) but the fluff also created kind of a faux muffin top because it puffed out so dramatically at your waist.  Some of the girls in the pictures had a shirt tucked into the top of the skirt and it looked really cute on them but I found having a dressy shirt that would cover the very top of the skirt worked a lot better for me.

The sweeping folds of fabric were a lot of fun and the whole skirt kind of blows softly around you while you walk. The skirt comes in a handful of colors (black, maroon, cream, pink) and is a perfect transition piece for fall because it’s so light weight but it reaches a little lower on your legs and still has some substance to it.

In short it’s a fantastic skirt.  My inner ballerina is thrilled to be wearing it and it makes me feel really dressed up while still being comfortable.

If you’re looking for some fashionable but conservative clothing or if you just love vintage fashion you’ve got to check out Apostolic Clothing!

Obsessions Boutique {Giveaway} – Closed

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I have found this new obsession with online boutiques/shops. It’s so convenient to shop straight from your living room couch. And the best part…receiving something fun in the mail to come home to. It’s like my new favorite thing! The only fear I have with online shopping is how it will fit. You can’t try it on, you can’t see the exact coloring. Good thing most shops offer free returns/shipping now. But still, it’s no fun to be so excited for your adorable top coming and then have to send it back because it just doesn’t fit or it’s not how it looks online.

Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 8.21.10 PM

Now cue in magical music… Obsessions Boutique has taken care of all your online worries. Obsessions Boutique is an absolutely adorable online boutique that offers the most darling clothes and accessories. They have the trendiest items and the best part is they offer all variety clothes for every season. Ever since moving to Utah, I am having trouble finding online stores that offer things for winter and summer. Most just offer just one.

Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 8.30.13 PM

I am seriously swooning over this whole outfit! The leggings are so fun and right on point with the fun colors. Like I said, I just get so nervous ordering sizes with online boutiques. Obsession Boutique does not disappoint in this category. They offer a sizing chart on their site and they are very true to what they say. I ordered a size small (what I normally am) and my skirt fit perfect! So no worrying about sizing issues with Obsession Boutique.

Screen Shot 2014-06-18 at 8.29.16 PM

I love how classy all of their pieces are. Right now I am having a polka dot obsession (no pun intended ha!) and I immediately fell in love with this top! Actually I immediately fell in love with many of their pieces. But I honestly am now obsessed with my new Obsessions Boutique Skirt!

ob

I love that I was able to pair it with some bright summer colors and the skirt still looked summery. You guys, this is probably the most comfortable skirt I now own! It has an elastic band, which does not squeeze to tight at all! (Perfect for growing baby bellies!) It is so light weight and perfect for the summer heat.

ob2

My favorite part of this skirt is the ruched knee. I love that they took a very simple maxi skirt and pulled that into it. At first I thought it would be kind of tight around the knee part and be hard to walk in, that is not the case at all. It is perfectly roomy and tightens up in all the right places.

Obsessions Boutique checked everything off my list for a great online boutique. What you see is what you get. There are no guessing games with this shop. Everything they offer is so darling and lots of variety for different styles.

I am so excited for today’s giveaway, because not one of you but 3 of you will win one of these skirts I am wearing in one of their three colors they offer. Red, Black and Brown. So, I wouldn’t miss out on this one ladies! Get entering 😉

For Elyse {Giveaway} – CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

Has this not been the most horrible winter of all time?!  Do I say something to the effect of “I hate winter” in almost every review I write lately?  Well, for good reason, because it has left me a meaner person.  Here’s to hoping the Spring will soften my cold heart a little.  I know what would help 🙂

blacklogo1

A new spring wardrobe from For Elyse!  Feast your eyes on all the gorgeous, happy, stylish, SPRINGY outfits!

And then we’ve got shoes…

…and shorts and skirts!  Are you pulling out your credit card?

I really love For Elyse’s collection of maxi skirts, specifically.  I think these flowy breathable skirts are the perfect item for Spring when days might be unexpectedly chilly, or unexpectedly too warm.  My favorite is the Ombre Maxi, sold for $32.99 and available in Gray or Mint.

78119_Grey_0178116_Mint_01

Clearly, I chose the Mint, and I’m so happy with it!  The material feels a little thin, but I think that is the nature of most long knit skirts so that it does not become too heavy that it falls off your waist.  The ombre is a fun and trendy look, and in this long length, I think it really helps to elongate my short 5’2 stature.

IMG_0312For some reason, I was told by two different people how “elegant” I looked in this outfit.  I think this skirt, and particularly this style and color, is easy to dress up or down depending on your accessories and styling.  I went a little more dressy for church, but you could pair this with a tank top and sandals and be all set for the beach.  My only qualm (besides the thin fabric) is the direction to “hand wash”.  I’ll probably forget that note and toss it in the machine, but I think it will hold up fine.  Perhaps remember to line dry this 95% rayon, 5% spandex blend.

mintHey, checkout their Lookbook site, where you can see fashion inspiration from real people around the world!

Only winner will receive ANY maxi skirt of your choice from For Elyse!

Spring has FINALLY sprung!

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

1538846_10152017909345894_7595197732479402456_n

I don’t know about where you are, but here in St. Louis the sun is shining.  The flowers are blooming.  The grass is turning a brilliant shade of green.  Yep.  It simply glorious outside.  The spring has finally sprung around here!  I knew this day was coming eventually, but I also knew that the weather wouldn’t just suddenly change over night.  Especially not after what we dealt with for what seemed like eternity.  We had the LONGEST winter ever here!  I’m sure this sentiment resonates with the rest of the country; except of course for places like Florida and California.  Most of the country is highly envious of those types of places.  I’m talking the raging, green-eyed monster.  For St. Louis at least there have been signs of the coming days of honeysuckle and lilacs for quite some time now.  Albeit very slowly, but it has been warming up and the forecast hasn’t been predicting any of those crazy snow storms.  In fact the recent thunderstorms and even tornadoes (scary as those are) in the St. Louis area led me to believe that spring really was on its way.  Yes, I believe it’s FINALLY here!

With the spring weather also comes the need for some spring fashion.  That very need actually sent me to the mall last week, but I returned home with much disappointment.  I only made one measly little purchase.  A somewhat (long sleeved; mind you) spring blouse that definitely won’t carry me into summer.  All of the stores must not have been catching on to the hints of spring, because they only had winter clothing in stock.  Heavy sweaters galore, but nothing for spring.  It’s possibly that they are now stocked for spring this week, but I was at the mall LAST week.  I don’t have time THIS week to go back.

In my desperation to have something that I could fit in (remember I just had a baby 9 weeks ago) for this warmer weather I turned to my old standby.  Online shopping.  I will admit that typically I’m a little hesitant with clothes shopping online.  It’s difficult to often know the sizing or how the item will fit.  Generally I’ll only shop online at stores that I’m familiar with already.  Or ones that my friends have recommended.  So it took A LOT of bravery on my part to place an order on a deal site.  But after this purchase:

photo-90I will be purchasing a lot more off of that deal site!

I’m absolutely in love with this top.  I found it on the Jane deal site for only $19.99!  Isn’t that a steal of a deal?  I’m talking waaaaayyyy dandy.  It has these faux buttons up the back.  Seriously going to be my favorite all spring and summer long!

Jane features boutique clothing items for up to 80% off.  Each deal only lasts a matter of days or until they sell out.  So some of the more popular deals are only be around for a few hours!  Like these two deals:

GONE.  Totally gone.  I shouldn’t have waited so long to make my decision.

Good thing they still have plenty of these cute maxi skirts!

Peekaboo-Chic {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

So, it finally got “cold” here in Southern California. As in the high is only in the 50s and 60s during the day! I know this sounds ridiculous to those of you in below-freezing temps, but trust me, 50° seems really cold when last week we were strutting around in shorts because it was 80°! So, I’m all about layers right now–and have I got some cute layers for you!

logo

Peekaboo-Chic is an adorable online boutique that specializes in “lavish layering for women, ” especially in regard to “skirt and legwear accentuation.” I bet you didn’t know you could accentuate your skirt or legwear, but oh, you can! All of their creations are handcrafted from patterns made by fashion designers in Utah, and these ladies know what they’re doing. Their creations are so cute!

clothesboots

I’m loving all of their Boot Socks! I never seem to have the right boots or the right outfit to pull this look off, but after seeing how cute these socks are, I sure want to! They also make boho-chic hair accessories, beautiful slip dresses that are perfect for that dress that is too low at the top and too high in the bottom, as well as slip extenders. I was sent the Bring on the Frill Layering Skirt in Gray to review, and can I just say, I LOVE the versatility of this skirt!

skirt

First of all, it can be worn as the obvious, a skirt. The top panel can be worn flat to lengthen the skirt or folded down to shorten it and add extra coverage of your middle section. The fabric is polyester/spandex so it’s a little clingy on my bum when worn this way, but if I pair it with a pair of leggings or tights, it lessens the effect.

High waist

folded

Next, it can be worn as a slip extender. I’ve already praised the utility of such slip extenders, so I won’t say much more than they are awesome. I especially love this skirt as a slip extender because the fabric is super soft and stretchy but also a little silky, so it flows nicely underneath my skirt instead of bunching up or feeling uncomfortable like some slips can feel.

slip

Lastly, it can be worn as an adorable frilly tunic! Like I said, the material is really soft and silky, so I had to wear a shirt underneath and put a belt around my waist to help the top stay up and finish the look, but I love the final product! Super put together and right on-trend.

tunic

Do I need to say that I love this skirt? For $36 you are getting an incredibly versatile piece that can be worn in a variety of ways and a variety of settings. Dress it up with some bling and wear it to a wedding; dress it down with a pair of jeans and wear it to Girls Night! It comes in a variety of cute shades including Cream, Camel, Black, Red and Mustard, so it can be worn with countless skirts, dresses, pants, tops and sweaters. The Bring on the Frill Layering Skirt can be purchased at Peekaboo-chic.com. But if you’re feeling lucky, enter below to win a skirt of your own in Black or Cream! And be sure to connect with them on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram to be in the know on the latest deals and steals!

24/7 Frenzy {Giveaway} – CLOSED

I am in love with Valentine’s Day!!  You’d think, after years and years of dreading the day that everyone else had a bouquet of roses delivered and a giant stuffed teddy to carry around at school, that I’d be a hater, but I can’t help falling in love with the idea of being in love!  Now that I have a live-in Valentine and two little sweethearts to love on, I am even more aglow with rosy Valentine feelings and urges to cut out strands of paper hearts and glue together glittery cards!

logoSo what are YOU doing for Valentine’s day?  Do you need a dress for your date night?  24/7 Frenzy has an entire collection of little black dresses, perfect for impressing your sweetheart and looking glam out on the town.

Besides LBD’s, 24/7 Frenzy has an extensive collection of casual dresses, tops, fun rompers, and an impressive number of lacy sleepwear items.  I picked out a pair of something lacy for myself, a microfiber cami and short set, crossdyed and detailed with rosettes.  I found the top to be the perfect type of cami for under button-ups.  Just a little lace to look fancy, while not too sheer or cheap.

Most of the 24/7 Frenzy items range from $40-$50, but you can get free shipping on orders over $100.  For orders under $100, shipping is a flat rate of only $6.99.  Besides clothing, there are also a number of pieces of jewelry I could wear every day:

Repeat Possessions {Giveaway} – CLOSED

I’ve heard that French women are excellent at dressing effortlessly and appearing young, slim and stylish throughout their lives.  I’ve heard that their secret is a closet of classics that all compliment each other.  They stick to a neutral palette that coordinates with everything else in their closet, while they let the color appear in their accessories.  Doesn’t that sound smart, beautiful, and classic?  I’ve made it one of my goals this year, to only purchase staple articles of clothing and accessories that will work with dozens of other outfits.  I need stable and interchangeable this year!

Repeat PossessionsRepeat Possessions has a number of these interchangeable staples that really hold their own.

My collection of Repeat Possessions clothing is growing, and with each item, I’m pleased to recall just how much it is being worn and used.  My Signature Camisole and yoga pants are being worn again and again and again.

This time around, I reviewed the Nikibiki Long Sleeve Crew Neck Top in black, and I think it is fantastic.  It is completely opaque so you don’t have to worry about wearing a cami underneath it, and one size fits all.  Truly.  It only comes in one size, which suits sizes 00 to 16/18 and is sold for $29.

I. Love. This. Shirt.  I wore it out last weekend on date night with my hubby to the mall, and I think its the perfect top to dress up or down, while being totally comfortable.  92% nylon + 8% spandex = cool and soft.  The long length on the sleeves and drop waist hem is exactly what I wanted.  This shirt is going to get worn to threads.  You know, if nylon and spandex were made of threads, ha ha.

And use the code “Dandy” for 10% off your future purchases!

ModestPop {Giveaway} – CLOSED

I could do anything in a cute dress, couldn’t you?  No matter how bad the date went, or how poorly by interview turned out, I could always face hard things or missed opportunities or even mean people if I was wearing something I loved!  The more likely I am to feel stressed or worried in a situation, the more effort goes into my outfit so that how I look can be the last thing I worry about.  Another thing I never want to have to worry about is how much leg or cleavage I shouldn’t be showing in a professional environment.  While layering is always an option, sometimes its just so much nicer to go modest the first time 🙂

Let me show you the most darling collection of dresses that I would wear in a heartbeat to boost my confidence in any situation!  These are the beautiful dresses of Modest Pop:

4Sleek, professional, and feminine, yes?

Modest Pop is a store that has just boomed since the last time we worked together (and you can read that review HERE).  What once was a small boutique is now a thriving super site of dozens of beautiful things.  They carry tops, skirts, slips, professional dresses and more casual dresses, much like these below and the dress I picked out for myself.

3

Here is the Daisy Dress, which is sold for $48, available in blue or green, and in sizes XS through 2X!

blue3

I love love love this dress!  I think the starch white lace on top is beautiful and the print is so sweet and vintage.  The full skirt is so fun to wear with boots, and the style makes it easy to accessorize.  I love the invisible zipper in the back, the included belt, the refreshingly long length, and the beautiful silhouette it creates.

blue1

The empire waist is probably lovely on girls without a lot of curves, but not so friendly on us full-figured girls, so note that before taking these pictures, I made a quick seamstress alteration and took 4″ off the hem and lengthened the torso with this extra fabric, so that the gathers (which I changed into pleats) would lay beneath the belt and not above it.

blue2

Also note the big and beautiful selection of clothing for sister missionaries!  If you message them on their Facebook page telling them where you are going on a mission, they will message you with a 15% off code!  Must tell my sister…

Go pick out your next favorite dress!  Things go quick, so act fast and make sure you follow ModestPop to get a heads up on new styles…

You might find the perfect gift for a little one on your list – or even for yourself, so hop around to all the blogs, including the GRAND PRIZE, on the linky at the bottom of this post!

Happy Holidays!

…………………………………………………………………………………
So ladies, have you ever woken up the morning of a big Christmas holiday party and thought, “I know!  I’ll wear that dress that is so unflattering, but I love the color”, or “That dress that is a little too short, but has the perfect sleeves, will be perfect”, or “If only that little black dress was taken out a little more and had pockets, it would be my dream dress”.  Speaking from a seamstress perspective, I know how some of you live, having to incessantly be taking things to be tailored or giving things away because they are just not-quite flattering.  Have you ever wished you had your personal tailor who could make you your dream dress exactly to your measurements, and then customize things like the dress length, type of sleeves, pockets, and other details?
 AffiliateTermsConditions20032
Ladies, your personal tailor and seamstress: eShakti.
I haven’t enough words to tell you how much I love this place.  You can literally customize any of their skirts, dresses, or tops to your exact measurements, and then take it a step further and customize the sleeves, the hem length, the embroidered details, the pockets, etc.  A personal seamstress could not do this faster or cheaper, mark my words.
I LOVE working with eShakti!  Everything I order is delivered in a timely fashion (which is remarkable knowing that these are made overseas).  See the last two dresses I ordered from them:

Their styles are darling, flattering, and there are dozens and dozens of dresses and colors to choose from.  Yap, yap, yap, let’s let the dress do the talking.  I was ready to go a little festive and be a little daring, so I went with this Beaded Crepe Knit Sheath Dress in Emerald.  Love it!
green2
So to be honest, there a lot of things I love about this dress, and I few things I would change.  The beadwork: love it.  Gorgeous, secure, detailed, high quality beads.  The draping: love it, but I do wish the pleats had been sewn down a little further up the sides.  I really think my bustiness created an odd pattern ratio, which causes the pleats to gape open.  It makes me look a little more chesty than I already am, but I do like the added dimension of more texture and fabric up top.

dress5

This dress also features a keyhole back with rouleau-button closure.  eShakti was nice enough to send along an extra button as well as a bag of beads to replace them down the road if needs be.
dress4
I think a belt does a great job at bringing this all together, and the beadwork makes accessorizing with gold or silver jewelry so easy!  Go glam!

There are hundreds of possibilities at eShakti.  You’re bound to find dozens of styles you love and would love to further customize.

Fresh Produce {Giveaway}–CLOSED

Disclosure: This could be a sponsored post or contain affiliate links (which means I earn a percentage of the sale), but all opinions are strictly my own.

I love clothes. Let’s just put it out there. We don’t have a very big shopping budget and I rarely buy clothes “just because,” so for almost every birthday and Christmas I ask for money to buy clothes! My style has changed throughout the years (though I still own some of the same tops and skirts from before college), but one thing that has remained the same is my love for color. I love pieces that are bright, cheery and fun!

logo

Fresh Produce is my kind of company–they manufacture clothes that are bright, colorful, comfortable AND made in the USA! They have an impressive line of Women’s clothes, including Plus Sizes, and a beautiful Girls collection. Their clothes are definitely beachy/coastal inspired, and I think when I retire I want to live in a beach house and wear nothing but Fresh Produce clothing every day. Along with clothes, they also carry Accessories such as Jewelry, Hats and Bags, and fun things for the Home. Here is just a sampling of the bright, cheery items they carry:

collage

So after all this talk of color, you’d think I would have chosen something bright and colorful to review, right? Well, I wanted to. Actually, I had a really hard time choosing something to review because there were so many great choices! I knew I wanted a skirt and there were several I had my eye on (all in fun, vibrant colors). But when I saw the Hepburn Long Pencil Skirt, it came down to necessity–I was in need of a good, black pencil skirt, and this one looked perfect.

skirt

The skirt itself is lovely. The material is thick and stretchy (i.e. comfy!) but not cheap-looking. It is nicely tailored with a small kick-pleat in the back (a must with any pencil skirt, right?). The length was a little short for the “long” skirt, but I was okay with it (if you wear it high-waisted it hits right at the knee). What I was (sadly) not okay with was the fit. I looked at the measurements on the size chart and ordered a Small since that was about where my measurements and size range fell. Unfortunately, since it is stretchy, it fit fine (like I wasn’t squeezing into it) but it was too tight and clingy on my (big runner’s) booty. I know some people go for that look, but I just don’t. I was super bummed (no pun intended) that I couldn’t use my skirt, but luckily I have a friend who is about a size smaller than me who was in need of a good pencil skirt, too!

Here’s what she had to say: “What I liked best about this skirt was that the knit material is nice enough to be dressed up, but comfortable enough that you could wear it all day.  It was fitted, without being too tight, and stretchy enough that I could choose to wear it high-waisted or lower on my hips. The waistband is nice and wide, so I chose to add a belt just for looks.”

Bottom line (seriously, I’m not trying to make all these butt jokes!), if you’re getting something in a stretch fabric, think about possibly ordering a size larger than you normally would to account for the stretch factor. But these are great clothes in awesome color choices and fun styles and I totally recommend them. Fresh Produce clothing can be purchased online, at Fresh Produce Retail Stores, and at select boutiques and independent retailers throughout the country. Their prices are slightly higher than most stores, but that’s the price you pay to support things made in the USA! They also have a great Sale section where you can find their clothes up to 50% off! But lucky for YOU, Fresh Produce is offering one lucky winner the chance to pick ONE clothing item for free–good luck choosing just one!
