About a year ago my nana got me a new sewing machine. While she was undergoing treatments for brain cancer I took care of her and she would watch me sew on my ancient machine. It was a machine that I had acquired at the age of 8, so quite the outdated piece of equipment! To show her gratitude for my taking care of her she wanted to get me a brand new, fabulous sewing machine. I told her that she didn’t have to do that. That I wanted to take care of her and needed nothing in return, but she insisted. My nana is one of my favorite people, I love her so much, and she has always been my biggest fan. I wish this story had a happy ending, but that’s not true. Nana continued to decline due the harsh radiation treatments on her brain. She now lives in a nursing home, because her quality of life has been so greatly altered. I am glad that she’s still with us, but it’s also extremely difficult to see her suffering. Despite the life changes every time I get my sewing machine out it brings a smile to my face thinking of her wonderful gift. I’m not the greatest sewer in the world. Far from it. But I have a spectacular machine and as long as I have a pattern I’m pretty much good to go. Speaking of patterns are you always on the lookout for unique and fun patterns to sew for your kiddos?
