This month is kinda CRAZY at our house.  It’s both of my kids’ birthdays — just 3 days apart — and we likes to party.  We had a joint birthday party for them at a bounce house near us and I opted to do it as simply as I could.  No set-up {because it wasn’t at my house}, no clean-up {because again, it wasn’t at my house} — just show up, eat pizza and jump to their little 1 and 3 year old hearts’ content with their best buds.  I decided not to even make a cake — then I would need plates, forks and all that…. so we went with cupcakes!

Shelf Reliance ***ENDED***

I buy in bulk.  Bulk toilet paper.  Bulk paper towels.  Bulk vitamins.  Bulk soap.  Bulk everything!  But mostly I buy canned goods in bulk.  How can I not?  This way we always have food in our house…in the canned form!  Who doesn’t love canned goods?  I mean they are they perfect items for emergency prepardness.  They last forever and they are so easy to store, right?  Wrong!  I’m going to tell you all a little secret.  It’s only just a little embarrassing.  I’m obsessive compulsive when it comes to expiration dates.  If it’s a day past the expiration then it’s gone.  In this house we DO NOT eat expired food!  So maybe I do carry it a little to the extreme, but it’s my obsession and my husband has learned to live with it.  :)      Back to the canned goods.  Can you imagine how many I have just thrown out over the years, because they and their expiration dates get pushed to the back of the pantry?  Well, now I won’t have that problem since Shelf Reliance sent me their awesome Cansolidator Pantry! 

This system holds 40 cans and literally rotates the cans for you!  When you go to use a can just pull from the bottom and add the new cans to the top.  It just half circles down and keep them all in order…by expiration date!  Is that fabulous, or what?  It fits perfectly in our pantry and if we want we can add onto the ends of the system for even more storage capacity.  I’m in bulk canned good heaven here in St. Louis!

In my opinion being prepared for an emergency is super important.  Let me just share with you for a moment why I know this to be true.  We actually lived in San Antonio when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast.  Granted we experienced nothing inland that was experienced on the coast, but the days prior the hurricane making landfall were very worrisome.  The San Antonio grocery stores were overrun with people trying to stock up on food and essentials in case they were stuck in their homes.  It was complete chaos!  I remember being at work as we prepared for impending patients to be transferred out of the affected areas and my husband calling to say he wasn’t able to buy any bottled water.  The stores were sold out!  Sure enough it was even being broadcast on the local news that there was a shortage of bottled water and food that wasn’t perishable.  Now wouldn’t it have made sense to already have these necessary items on hand in case of an emergency?  Like stored in our own home?  Definitely!

Munchie Mug ***ENDED***

Not surprisingly, my husband and I are always packing around snacks for our toddler. Don’t we all do that? My son loves snacks! I think that they must be his most absolute favorite meal of the day. My absolute “favorite” thing is how his snacks get strewn all over everywhere: car, floor, store, etc. Catch that sarcasm? Of course the mess is not one of my favorites. However, for the last several months my new favorite thing has been the Munchie Mug.
It’s seriously so awesome! Munchie Mug sent me the mug in blue and my son takes it to church, biking in the bike trailer, in the car… EVERYWHERE!
The Munchie Mug has this great washable fabric “lid” with a slit that allows for a child to easily access the snacks inside, but at the same time keeps the snacks where they are supposed to be. Inside of the container! The concept itself actually reminded me of that Price Is Right game where the contestants have to reach inside the bag and avoid pulling out the strikes! Hahaha! :) My son seriously loves the Munchie Mug. He’s able to grasp a small handful of a snack without dumping the entire contents. We also found at church (when the snacks ran out) that placing little toys in the Munchie Mug was quite entertaining for our son. He would reach it and be surprised by which toy he pulled out! So we definitely found that there are many uses for the Munchie Mug!

What mom isn’t constantly packing around snacks for her toddler? Not just for toddlers, but for older kids and even for herself! When my son reached the age of requiring snacks throughout the day this became a major pain for me, because the plastic containers were so bulky in my bag. So I switched to those little plastic baggies, because they just fit better in the diaper bag. You all know that became even more of a pain. Of course they were only good for single use, would tear sometimes during that first use, and I thought, “What a waste!” Fortunately I found ReUsies!
