Bed for Banjo

Well, it’s high time Banjo moves out of his toddler bed.  He will after all be 5 in April.  So he’s not a toddler anymore.  *sniff*  For the last few months Banjo has been begging us for a bunk bed.  What is with little boys and bunk beds, anyway?  All of his friends have one and he has been insisting that he needs it.  I think the appeal is that top bunk, but who wants a child to fly right off and break an arm???  This would be the 5 years working in the children’s emergency department speaking…  Audi does agree with this concern.  So I found this bed on Zulily:

It’s only $299!!  That’s a huge savings.  Plus, it’s only 46 inches off the ground, so our fears of falls are taken care of.  Audi approves and so Santa will be delivering this to our house especially for Banjo.  We figure he’ll use it for a couple of years and then we can sand and paint it for Ruby.  At that point I’m guessing I will be constructing a really cute girl’s playhouse out of felt to drape from the bed.  😉

Packages from my online Christmas shopping began arriving on my doorstop last week:

Of course a package from Zulily was delivered at my house, because I’ve been doing A LOT of shopping on Zulily!

I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to shop online.  It’s the best way to find a bargain.  Everything at Zulily is a bargain, so it’s my go to place for holiday shopping.  I literally check in every day to see what the latest deals are.  So far we have acquired some building blocks for Banjo on Zulily at around 80% off retail.  This week I’ll There are just so many things at major percentages off that it’s sooooo very difficult to decide just what to get her!  Maybe this adorable shopping cart:

Decorating Ruby’s room has been a dream.  There’s just something about all thing decor for baby girls.  Don’t get me wrong.  It was fun decorating the nursery for Banjo, but decorating for a baby girl is just so sweet and cutesy!  Maybe it’s because I’m a girl and deep down I like girly things.  Even though I’m not that much of a pink gal.  Too much exposure to the color in childhood gave it a bad wrap in my mind.  I’ll admit that I’m slowly warming to the idea of dressing Ruby in pinks.  Although for her room I didn’t want anything pink.  So maybe I’m not quite to that point of being fully accepting of the color pink.  😉  I knew right away that the color combination of gray and yellow would be perfect for her room, because I love the color yellow.  In terms of decor we also wanted a room that didn’t scream baby, so it could in fact grow with her.  Who wants to decorate over and over throughout childhood???  So I chose a bird theme that I thought would be perfect for a nursery, but also in a little girl’s room.  The challenge was the one wall that we selected to leave white behind her crib.  How ever was I going to tie the room color in on that wall without being overbearing?  Enter the cutest wall vinyl that I ever did spy:

“Ruby” is 2 months old and I’m FINALLY getting around to decorating the nursery.  Let’s just say that I take awhile to make decisions and get things done.  Okay…  I’m a major procrastinator!  It doesn’t help matters when “Ruby” came a month earlier than my due date.  Just think if I’m already a major procrastinator then an early birth really, really, really threw a wrench in my plans.  The nursery has a bird theme, because I think it’s just a darling theme!  Last week I spent hours and hours sewing curtains and bedding for her room.  And I still have a ways to go before finishing!  How about the wall decorations?  Well, obviously I’m the type of personality that needs help in that department or it will never be finished.  It also needs to be something that’s easy to do.  I mean this is me we are talking about.  🙂  Good thing for me there’s a place online that is all about Vinyl Wall Art.  That’s even the name of the shop, so it’s very easy for me to remember!  Recently Vinyl Wall Art sent me this vinyl growth cart that goes perfectly with the nursery theme:

The Painted Name {Giveaway} ***ENDED***

My children have a very important lady in their young lives.  Her name is Gran and she is my mother.  Thank you all for the good thoughts that have been directed towards her during this difficult time.  I know that I’ve eluded to the fact in recent postings that she is ill.  Until now I haven’t been open on the Dandy with what my mom has, but this particular feature has me thinking of her a great deal.  So I thought that I should fill you in.

At the start of the New Year (when my new baby girl was just 1 week old) my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.  It came as quite a shock to us all as my mom has always been very healthy.  Sure she has been more tired than normal over the last few years, but we just thought it was because she works full time and has had a lot on her plate with both her parents and my father’s parents.  My paternal grandfather (who was the inspiration for Dandy Giveaway) died suddenly 4 years ago, maternal grandmother had a stroke 3 years ago, paternal grandmother had brain cancer 2 years ago, and my maternal grandfather was just diagnosed with cancer just barely before Thanksgiving.

So we haven’t had an easy time of it.  Through it all my mom has been there for everyone and we are now here for her.  We are rallying behind here.  That’s what being a family is all about!  I’m happy to report that she is tolerating chemotherapy well and we continue to pray for a cure.  It’s going to be a long road, but I have complete faith that my mom can continue to fight this.  She’s a strong woman.  Gran is even still working!  She’s a manager of a bank and this is why I’ve had her on my mind for this feature giveaway.  🙂

Happy Almost Valentine’s Day!  Do you have big plans for the actual day?  Or did you celebrate already over the weekend?  We might try to go out to dinner sometime soon.  Maybe this weekend.  It’s hard to find a babysitter for a 6 week old!  My husband (the audiologist man) did tell me already what my present for Heart’s Day was going to be.  He surprised me with plans to update our walk-in closet from its original 1960’s look.  Plans that included him doing the renovating.  Apparently he has spent weeks planning out the exact layout, shelving, etc.  I must admit that when I was first told of this endeavor I was just a tad bit nervous.  Now I’m not saying that I don’t have complete faith in my husband, because that is the farthest thing from the truth.  It’s just to my knowledge he’s never done any sort of wood working.  So that made me a little nervous.  I mean he knows a whole lot about ears!  🙂  Well, you know what?  I’ve just discovered that my husband also knows about building things!  I’m happy to report that the closet is looking mighty fine.  Yep I’m really proud of him!  Not that I had any doubt.  🙂  It’s still in process, but I’ll be sure to post pictures of the finished product.  Can I just tell you that I’m so excited with my present?  Audiologist man has heard me complain and complain about our closet.  He’s the best!  So to my audiologist man I say:
