Dandy Holiday

The weather has turned cold here in the Lou.  Really cold.  Like in the 30’s cold.  I don’t think that I’m ready for this, but I guess snow is pretty dandy???  So…  I gotta look at the positives and outweigh the negatives.  Snow is kinda dandy…  Am I right?  It looks dandy.  The smell of it all fresh as it falls from the sky.  Big fluffy flakes.  I’m making this sound better and better.  More and more dandy.  If I keep up the mantra then I will believe it.  *wink*   We only had flurries the other day.  I’ll be sure to let you all know when the first big snow storm hits.  I’m sure you will be waiting on pins and needles for this announcement.  *wink again*

I’ve always loved how the Brit’s refer to vacations and trips as, “going on holiday”.  Could be my British ancestry speaking, but it’s just more dandy to call it a holiday.  After all holidays are time spend with family and loved ones.  So if you are going on a trip with your family then why shouldn’t you call it a holiday???  Well, last weekend we got out of St. Louis and took an overnight getaway kind of holiday.  We headed west on I-70 a few hours and came very close to entering another state.  That’s a clue as to where we went.  It was great to get out of town and spend time together as a family.  This family adventure was truly a grand time.  In fact we went on a tropical adventure.

We stayed warm by the fire:

We were greeted with warm cookies upon our arrival:

And we spent time in a sauna like atmosphere.  All misty and warm air.  Safe and protected from the outdoor elements.

WHERE  DID  WE  GO???

Just for funs I’ve created a puzzle for you to help “piece” together where exactly we went.  Hey, it’s too cold to go outside these days, so I’m spending a lot of time indoors.  Oh and the pun was definitely intended.  🙂  Enjoy!

Stay tuned for a detailed post on the new blog, Seeing Dandy.  All will be revealed soon.  🙂

*I received a discounted hotel stay and park tickets in exchange for my review, but all opinions are definitely my own.

Our Boo-tiful Wagon

Remember that ultra cute, very dandy, and super fun wagon that we took on our fall outing last week?

wagon4

Yep.  That’s the one!

The baby is also ultra cute, very dandy, and super fun if I do say so myself.  *wink*

(He has some teeth coming in and is constantly feeling with his tongue and sticking it out for pictures.)

Isn’t the wagon just so charming?  Our kids simply love this wagon.

The charm is all in that happy face.

wagon

My kiddos were invited to decorate the Cozy Coupe Wagon just to show how perfect it is for the trick-or-treating adventures and it is perfect.  I mean seriously… why walk from house to house when you can ride in style?  And decorating your own ride for the big All Hallows’ Eve???  Even better!

My kids really got into the decorating process.  It brought out their creativity and we were able to discuss our plans for the wagon weeks in advance.  This family activity has made this year’s Halloween festivities that much more memorable for us so I highly recommend.  Ready to see what my kiddos did to their new wagon?  Here you go:

Little Tikes sent them the wagon, I gave them the supplies, and they got to work.

bootiful

Didn’t they do such a boo-tiful job?

Of course in addition to the decorating…

We just had to put our new friend in costume.

bootiful2

After all… Those Cozy Coupe eyes were just screaming to be a ghost.

Do you have any other ideas of how we could have dressed Cozy?

Thanks to Little Tikes we are all ready for trick-or-treating.  Are you?  It will be here before you know it.

The countdown is on.

Bring on October 31st!

bootiful4

Do you stay in your own neighborhood for trick-or-treating?

Or do you go all over town?

Have a very safe and Happy Halloween!

I did receive the Cozy Coupe wagon from Little Tikes to bring you this posting.  However, all opinions are strictly my own.

Fall is dandy.

It really is.  Dandy.  Fall is.  I love this time of year.  Absolutely love it.  I think that I’ve always been a fan of fall.  There’s just something about this time of year that draws me in.  It reminds me of things.  For starters it tells me that everything is going to be okay and eventually will become anew.  After a very long, hot summer the temperatures will start to drop, brilliant colors will form on my favorite trees, leaves will begin to fall, snow will eventually cleanse, and then spring will burst forth The newness happens all because of fall.  All because of it.  Without fall we would miss out on so much!  (If you’ve never experienced a Midwest fall then I highly recommend it.  Visit a place that has a real and true fall just once.  You will see exactly what I’m talking about.  The beauty of it all.  Truly breathtaking.)

Everything about this season for me is a memory.  My childhood is a big part of this memory.  I remember going with my grandparents to stomp through piles of leaves in the parks near Jefferson Barracks.  We would leave the pathways to find the biggest clusters of leaves.  The crispness in the air was often filled with silence that was then broken by our feet crunching through the giant, untouched leaves.  My grandparents would positively glow at the happiness that I expressed on our leaf walks.  I knew that they were happy and, as their only granddaughter, I reveled in the attention.  The walks were filled with love.  They taught me the joy that is leaf stomping and I can never look at falling leaves in the same way again because of it.

This year the change of season has taken on new meaning for me.  My feelings toward fall are now bitter sweet.  Seven years ago next month my grandfather (the inspiration for the dandy blog) passed away while raking leaves.  In a strange way it was almost meant to happen that way.  Despite the fact that I was thousands of miles away when it happened… It happened while he was doing something that was so closely connected to me.  Something that tied us together.  Maybe that sounds silly, but it has become a comfort to me.  We lost my grandmother earlier this year.  I’ll forever miss our walks together in the fall.

Despite the sadness that I feel this time of year I can still feel the joy of the season.  I’ll always have the wonderful memories and I’ve come to love sharing this season with my own family.  Spending time out in the fall weather with my husband and children, teaching them about the dandiness that is leaf walks, and taking part in all the fun of the season.  There truly is so much to enjoy this time of year.  Last weekend we found ourselves at a corn maze with friends.  Always a fall gem.  It has become a tradition for us to go to this specific maze.  Our dandy kids had a great time while building their own fall memories and I was able to reflect on all the many reasons why I love this time of year.

A dandy fall to all!

Little Tikes recently gave my family the gift of the Cozy Coupe Wagon.  It’s perfect for all of your fall outings.  Stay tuned for the Halloween review.

Fall Friday!

Ahem…

It’s FRIDAY!!!

I love this day and I love the 80’s.

Honestly I think this is like the best day of the week.  THE. BEST.  It’s the kickoff to the weekend.  The time that Banjo is off school, Audi is off work, and we can just have family time.  And… it’s fall so that makes it doubly dandy.

dandyfall

I mean seriously?  How can you not love the hue of that red?

Tell me.  How can you not LOVE it?!  It’s super, duper dandy.

I’m thinking that I need to take some more fall pictures and put them in some photo books to preserve the memories.  Then I’ll get to view them all year long and not just in fall.

I think I might be just a tad gaga over fall Friday.

Too much?

Okay.  Moving on.

Putting the season of fall aside… Why do I like this day so very much.  Well, this day reminds me that I get to have an entire dandy weekend.  A dandy weekend of family fun.  A dandy weekend of family games.  A dandy start to weekend that culminates with church on Sunday.  That’s what we do on the weekends around here.  We spend time with family and then attend worship services on Sunday.  Then we work all week until the next Friday.  Yay for Fridays!

What do you love about Friday and what do you do on the weekend?

A dandy Friday to all!!!

Another blast from the past with a sharing of my family blog. Way back when… Before the Dandy blog was even thought of!  Do you like that I’m sharing these?  Should I continue?  It’s all for the love of blog!  The way things used to be.  Life before the Dandy was still dandy.

We Miss Gran & Boompa Already!
Banjo had such a fun time with his grandparents and he loves them so much! See how much?  You can also see some of our cute baby gifts in the background.  We are so loved!  My parents came into town the weekend before Banjo  was born and they were such a great help to us. They were a support to us at the hospital, got us all settled back in at home and even made our neglected backyard beautiful…just to name a few!!  My dad was able to stay for a week and my mom stayed to help for an additional week and a half. She just left yesterday and ever since Banjo has been wondering where she is! We can hardly wait until June to see them again.  Isn’t family the best?  Just spending time with family.  THE best.  Thanks again Mom and Dad! Mom and Dad, thank you for planting a garden and the yard decorations and making our home that much more dandy!  We couldn’t have done it without you!!!

So sad to leave Gran at the airport!

Introducing Baby Banjo {For The Love Of Blog}

Another blast from the past?  Okay.  🙂

Introducing Baby Banjo!!!

He is finally here!  Banjo was born on April 14th at 5:32 pm.

 His first baby pictures:
For a 37-weeker he was a BIG baby! Our little heavy weight weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 and 3/4 inches long!

What a proud Papa!

Of course my Audi had to get a picture of the hearing screening being done…by someone else!  Now why should insurance have to pay for something that daddy could have done himself???  It’s only a matter of time before Banjo makes the trip to the office and just for kicks gets a full work up done by his daddy. Guess that will be their male bonding time!
I’m awake!
I’m asleep!

I’m really awake!
****************
Well, that was a fun little jog down memory lane!  I really need to get some of those picture developed.  Why is it so hard to get photo prints taken care of?  Shouldn’t it be so much easier?  It really should!  These are memories, people!  🙂   Perhaps I should make a photo calendar.  That would be a perfectly effective and dandy way to use all of our pictures from the past.  Otherwise they will never be seen.  So many pictures.  So little time.  I must make a habit of actually doing things with the pictures.  Like for instance…  My phone… It contains hundreds and hundreds of pictures.  iPhone pictures that will never be seen unless I get them printed.  Time to print them!

Stay tuned for more posts from the past.  A glimpse into my life before the Dandy.  🙂

More of us prior to parenthood!

The Audi and I liked to travel before we had children.  Sure we still travel, but to different places now.  Kid friendly places.  Places like Disney World.  It’s where the kids like to go.  And honestly?  As you will see below we like the land of the mouse too.  It’s a place for adults and kids to vacation.  #Truth.  You know it’s true.  We all know it’s true.  So here are just a few of our scrapbooking memories in pictures

Most of these pictures show our love for travel…hopefully baby will feel the same way!!

And now…

It’s MODERN DAY!

As in September 6, 2014.

Keep in mind that we were living in San Antonio when that blog post was written.  Hence the reason for our visiting St. Louis for my brother’s wedding and then traveling to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.  At that point in time we weren’t yet St. Louisans!  Weren’t we such babies in those pictures???  I don’t quite know where the time has gone.  I guess 12 years tends to age a person. *wink*

Have you been to any of the places we traveled?

Not Challenge Worthy?

The Ice Bucket Challenge has come and gone.  This was an AMAZING way to raise awareness for the horribleness that is ALS.  To preserve memories of those who have left us.  I’ve never been personally touched by this disease, but my heart aches for those families who have and are currently going through it.  And the sufferers.  I’m so very sorry.  Such a very debilitating problem that needs to be solved.   Prior to the challenge I didn’t realize just how many people are dealt this tragic card.  Honestly?  I only knew of TWO people and one wasn’t even technically in my circle.  I knew about Lou Gehrig, because I’ve seen the movie about his life too many times to count.  (My dad had it taped on VHS from the television and would constantly have us watch it in the 1980’s.)  Then as a teenager I had an acquaintance who’s father died of the disease.  But even then I associated it with the baseball player.  That’s all I knew.  I’m so grateful to have learned about ALS over the last month and have it placed in the forefront of my mind.  I hope that the momentum of awareness continues.

Now for my observations on the challenge itself…  No one challenged me to participate.  Not a soul.  I started to develop a complex with each passing day.  A paranoia of sorts.  Wondering when would be MY fateful day.  The day I would be dumping a bucket of ice cold water on my head.  I shiver at the thought.  Only it never happened.  Not once.  Not a single challenge came across to me on the Facebook.  Meaning that I was unable to challenge another.  The devastation of not being able to participate.  I have 1,063 “friends” on Facebook.  As the weeks went by I watched many of them participating in the challenge.   They created these funny videos.  I laughed.  They donated.  I applauded.  All the while plotting out what I would do in my own video.  But my chance never came.  Was I a total after thought?  Not worthy of the challenge?  My insecurities started to tug from a deep place.  Everyone was leaving me behind.  How was I to catch up with the rest?  Get in the game?  I was almost to the point of making my own video that  said something like, “No one challenged me, so I’ve elected to challenge myself.  So there.” and then over my head with the bucket.  Almost.  Why didn’t I?  There’s no reason why I couldn’t have.  Maybe the fear of desperation?  At any rate I missed my chance to be a part of something big.  Something life changing for someone else.  I should have just participated and not waited for someone to send out my challenge.  For that I will forever be wondering, “What if?”

That all being said, I’ve decided to put myself out there this month.  The month of September 2014.  My family started a tradition just last year of participating in the Light the Night walk here in St. Louis.  My mom has Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  We have a team.  We will be walking the night of September 27th.  So here’s my challenge to you…  I’m not going to challenge any dumping of ice buckets.  That would be  riding on the coattails of another great cause.  So my challenge has nothing to do with ice buckets.

All that I ask is that you do something dandy for someone else.

We live in a dandy world and there’s no reason why we can’t make sure that it keeps being dandy.  Or make it even more dandy.  The dandiness you provide another can be simple.  You can simply smile at someone who looks like they need one.  You know.  That haggard looking mother who is struggling to get through the grocery store with her young children?  Give her the thumbs up.  Tell her it’s going to be okay.  The janitor at your kid’s school?  When you see him or her while in the hallway after PTO lets out… Smile and say thank you for all that they do.  How about that person needing to change lanes on the roadway?  Let them in front of you and don’t be angry about it.  I guarantee that by doing so you will only arrive to your destination about five seconds later than you originally expected.  It can even be Facebook related.  Someone posts something that you don’t necessarily agree with.  Do you comment knowing full well that it could cause an argument?  Or knowing that it’s not the most dandy way in which you should respond?  Then don’t.  Just stop and think before you act.  If it’s something that could lead down the road less dandy then don’t go down that road.  Now if it’s something dandy then act away!  🙂

I’m not going to put a donation requirement on this challenge, but if you so desire…  Please donate just $1 directly to our team fundraising page on the LLS website:  Walking For Gran.  I know that all of our efforts (both big and small) will be dandy!

Thank you for being dandy!

Baby News!!

I know the count down to baby says that we have 23 days to go, but it’s wrong! Due to my blood pressure issues we knew that he would be born before 40 weeks, but everything was always still up in the air. Well, I saw the doctor today and we are good to go! Sunday evening I will go into the hospital to have the induction process started. So Monday (April 14th) will be baby day! I’ll post pictures of him as soon as I can…although I may be quite busy next week! And yes he is still nameless!
****
That post takes me way back.  Back to the days when life seemed so much more simple.  But was it? Really?  Sure I wasn’t busy with children.  Sure I had a job outside of the home back then.  Sure I had time to go shopping and shopping alone.  Sure I didn’t need to worry about getting places on time because I was always on time.  (Children have a way of making you late.)  Sure I always wore the type of jewelry that I wanted to wear.  Earrings especially.  Dangly ones.  Ones that you can never wear with a baby around.  See?  The things that you don’t think about until they are gone.
Life back then was quite dandy, but would I change my life for the world now.  Never.  I love being a mom.  I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world.  They are my everything and it’s even more dandy that life used to be.
