My children have a very important lady in their young lives.  Her name is Gran and she is my mother.  Thank you all for the good thoughts that have been directed towards her during this difficult time.  I know that I’ve eluded to the fact in recent postings that she is ill.  Until now I haven’t been open on the Dandy with what my mom has, but this particular feature has me thinking of her a great deal.  So I thought that I should fill you in.

At the start of the New Year (when my new baby girl was just 1 week old) my mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.  It came as quite a shock to us all as my mom has always been very healthy.  Sure she has been more tired than normal over the last few years, but we just thought it was because she works full time and has had a lot on her plate with both her parents and my father’s parents.  My paternal grandfather (who was the inspiration for Dandy Giveaway) died suddenly 4 years ago, maternal grandmother had a stroke 3 years ago, paternal grandmother had brain cancer 2 years ago, and my maternal grandfather was just diagnosed with cancer just barely before Thanksgiving.

So we haven’t had an easy time of it.  Through it all my mom has been there for everyone and we are now here for her.  We are rallying behind here.  That’s what being a family is all about!  I’m happy to report that she is tolerating chemotherapy well and we continue to pray for a cure.  It’s going to be a long road, but I have complete faith that my mom can continue to fight this.  She’s a strong woman.  Gran is even still working!  She’s a manager of a bank and this is why I’ve had her on my mind for this feature giveaway.  :)

Last summer my laptop had a little accident.  It involved a full can of Diet Dr. Pepper and unfortunately the soda can won!  This forced me to do my blogging work on the Mac Mini upstairs in my office space.  I felt shut away in there from the rest of the house let me tell you!  It made it really difficult to get work done.  After all I had a little Banjo to keep track of and contend with.  One of my fellow bloggers asked if I could get some work done while Banjo played.  Are you kidding?  He can’t be left anywhere in the house by himself.  Ha!  Only kidding.  He’s a good little boy and doesn’t do anything bad.  He just likes to “help” sometimes.  This “helping” includes answering the front door.  My office space is quite distant from the rest of the house and I would constantly worry that he was going to answer the door if I didn’t hear it.  So this of course led to my spending many late nights tucked away with the Mac Mini.  I missed my laptop dearly!  For months and months I saved my pennies to purchase a new one.  It took awhile, but I FINALLY had enough to justify getting a MacBook Pro!  Do I drink anything near it?  Nooooo!  Of course I’m very protective over it and knew that I needed a padded laptop sleeve to keep it/carry it in at all times.  Lucky me Forshee Designs allowed me to pick out a custom laptop sleeve:

I need a minivan???

I never thought I would see the day when those words would come out of my mouth.  I swore that I was not a minivan kind of mom, but those days are long gone apparently.  Our SUV is a major pain with 2 car seats.  There’s absolutely never any room and now I’m dreaming of this video from ages ago.  It might be old, but it still makes me laugh.  Enjoy the flashback to 2010!  :)

Banjo will be 4 in April!  Now that he’s gotten to be such a big boy (no longer even close to infancy) I’m starting to feel a little bit proud of my accomplishment.  Just a tad.  He’s turned out rather well if I do say so myself.  Now I cannot take full credit for this of course.  The audiologist man did take part in the raising and teaching process.  Plus, it’s highly possible that Banjo got his mellowness from his father.  Okay he did.  For the most part Banjo is generally well behaved and Regardless of how he earned his good behavior I think that I at least know much of what it’s like raising a boy.  Well, up to this point that is!  Any words of advice or encouragement for the next 14+ years would be greatly appreciated.  :)

I Love New York!

From the moment I performed like Old Blue Eyes in junior high choir I dreamed of going to the Big Apple.  In adulthood I finally did pay that fashionable city a visit and I was in major awe.  Seriously couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face.  We stayed in a little neighborhood called Hell’s Kitchen.  It was fairly close to Broadway.  Which I feel like is the city’s hub!  In my mind you cannot go wrong with a good Musical.  :)  We were quite the walk from some of the other places, but it was good exercise, right?

There’s so many extraordinary sites to see.  The Statue of Liberty?  Gorgeous.  But remember to put in for that 3 day background check ahead of time.  We did not.  Times Square?  Amazing.  Ellis Island?  Brought tears to my eyes.  Rockefeller Center?  Wish I had been there in the winter, so I could have went ice skating!

Our House

This is where we used to live:

It was our home in San Antonio that we owned for 5+ years.  The house was about 8 years old when we bought it and didn’t need much updating.  We replaced the flooring and door knobs, but overall the house was relatively in pretty good shape.  The lighting fixtures were in style, etc.  We even had contemporary bathroom lighting in the master… Those cool globe lights in a line above the mirror that resembled a movie star’s dressing room vanity.  I felt like a superstar every morning while I was putting on my makeup!

We loved our starter home, but couldn’t take it with us to St. Louis.

Fast forward a few years…

Here’s where we live now:

We bought this home a couple of years ago.  It literally took forever to find!  We looked and looked in various locations around St. Louis, but ultimately decided that we needed to live as close as you can get to living in the city without being in the city.  The down side to that decision?  Major need of updating the 1960′s house!  The houses that we saw further out of the city were newer and many were already updated.  We even saw new construction further out!  Why did we decide to live where we live?  Well, it’s a much better location for my husband’s job.  Who wants to spend all the live long day in traffic???  So it was the best decision for us!

Did the house come with modern lighting?  Um.  No.  It’s majorly lacking in that department!  I’m talking ghastly.  We have been replacing light fixtures left and right.  Even buying lamps, because for some reason houses in the 60′s weren’t built with ceiling lights in the living and family rooms!

Last year we redid the kitchen, but still need to update the lighting.  I need these pendants:

Someone tell my audiologist man will you?  I’ll let you know when I get ‘em!  :)
